Sal & I gently open the door to the inn, wipe our feet outside and brush the dust off our combat uniforms. Ensuring our rucksacks are securely on our backs we look round at the clientele and exchange greetings. Noticing CG and overhearing his remarks I pull him to me into a special hug supported by Sal

Sorry about the dust CG, but we just want you to know we stand with you. Challenger happened before either of us were born. But we’ve got ghosts both our own and family ones. My great grandfather vanished without trace at Auschwitz. I never knew him but I dream of him. Then there’s a baby that died in my arms. I hug you, and gently kiss your forehead.

GG says the key to her room is in the cash till. RT hands it to me.

Sal and I are going upstairs to GG’s room for a hot soak in the bath, then we’ve got a debrief (I wish Steve was here to debrief me ). We’ll be back later.

At the time of the Challenger, we still had television in the classroom. My class was watching the liftoff and saw the explosion. I still see it in my mind.

This place sure got busy today. I had to go back a couple of pages to catch up.

CG & SF I just looked at YouTube and cannot imagine how a classroom of children would have reacted. And the rescue work, I shudder!

We had a very successful session practicing beach landings then dealing with hostage situations. I can’t go into details except to say Robyn was the star of the whole thing. There was a situation set up in which we had to assume command. There we were with reservists, some double hr age and there she was barking orders and expecting and getting immediate obedience. It had to be seen to be appreciated.

I passed my assessment too and now I’ve been told next summer, during the placement session, I can link up with NRR and attempt to get my badges.

Hope everyone is well. It’s gone midnight here and I need some sleep. I settle into a chair next to SF and nod off to sleep.

Lots of shock, tears and discussion trying to explain what happened. All the while I didn't know much. I was really, really glad that the trade center was hit too early for our west coast students to see. Only a few had seen the news before school started, but the teachers were a mess all day. The next day we had to try to explain that situation to kids that were now in shock after their parents had the news on all evening.

Enough of that...

:uts a blanket on Sal. Sounds like the girls did themselves proud, but they are sure tired. The sounds of tinkering with glass reaches me from beneath the bar making me smile.::

Everything you say about Robyn I can imagine as if I were seeing it through my own eyes. She truly is a force to behold. Competent, clever, strong and unearthly. We're all so lucky to know her and that she is on our side. She is not a person I would ever want as an enemy.

The same goes for all our ladies out there. You all are truly forces of nature and I am in awe of the self sacrifices you make and the ways in which you make them. The rest of the world owes you a debt and if there is anything I can do even start paying my dues, just let me know.

Sal, I know we have only just met, but if you are even half as amazing as the others (and I know you personally to be much more than just half) You will do your country and your world proud. I am constantly impressed by you.
