By no means am I condoning this type of activity, just meerly pointing out it could be an underlying issue.

There are some dark times in my life where I have veered from the relationship. WTF, yes I f'ing cheated on a partner. Am I proud of this, NO. Is this a badge of honor for me, F- no. Do I still get tempted, sure. Am I going to ruin another relationship, NO. At this point, you are asking why am I still reading this? Good question. But I have a point, the point is this does mental illness play a role in male behavior when it comes to cheating? There is no clear medical evidence of this, but the therotical data does point in this direction.

In conclusion, after stumbling across an article about ADHD and Hypersexuality it all seemed to clicked. Although self diagnosed, I know more about myself and can make myself better.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I have ADHD myself along with a few other mental illnesses I’ve been very recently diagnosed with.
I think it could be true. I have cheated and I am constantly thinking about sex and different fantasies. I’m not saying it’s ok, or a good excuse to cheat , but it seems to make sense to me.

It is not ok or an excuse, I think awareness is key. It needs to be talked about.
Thank you for responding.

Fits a buddy of mine to a T. Could you post a link to the article?

I have adhd and never have connected it to my sexuality. Fascinating

As ADHD is a "spectrum" disorder, I would assume people have varying experiences.
I often wondered about my obsession about waking up in the middle of the night and have these unrealistic fascinations to have sexual relations with either the number of times per day or number of people. Though this isn't specifically called out in any article, I feel more at peace now that I have knowledge from this article. My assumption is my specific manifestation of ADHD is triggering these thoughts in time of stress or discomfort when startled awake from a dream.

You may have a point. It's been my experience that extroversion and hypersexed men are difficult to have a conversation with. And they draw out an ol session for hours. Maybe there's some adhd involved. At this point I don't care.

The subject is way to nuanced to make any definitive determinations. The variable you bring up is why I take the study with a grain of salt.

I have ADHD, High Functioning Autism and PTSD and yep, hyper sexual is correct.

Its less the hypersexuality, as such, and more the poor impulse control. Th hypersexuality is simply a vessel steering the direction of the choices. If you lacked it, then youd chase dopamine elsewhere.

So, it can be managed but often requires awareness. In the same way that RSD can massively impact a person and leave them with chronic suicidal thoughts and behaviours …until they learn they are responding within the frame of rejection sensitivity and they can learn skills to reduce the reactivity/address the intrusive thoughts.
