Banning private schools.

Good observations, but if a parent can send Jack and Jill snot-nose
to a private, or religious school, for reasons of their own,
well, they should have that choice unless, of course,
the Left believe that children are the property
of the collective and parents are terrorists.

I learned in the martial arts part of that very thing that you addressed,
that with hard work, natural ability and a little applied intelligence,
you can overcome a poor teacher or school and still excel...

So ... A thread contending there is a move afoot to get rid of private schools transformed into an argument about why conservatives think it's okay to defund public ed.

Bizarro world - also known as just another day of deflection and ascription from the conservatives.

Yep....these folks are too dumb to realize that:

1. They are the uneducated peasant class of this country.

2. They didn't take advantage of their educational opportunities (it's a choice) and take responsibility for themselves.

3. That public school is what holds this country together, such as it is. Without it, we might resemble Pakistan.

I can go along with having one police force. There is no reason to have a monopoly on schools.

So when the FBI was sent in to terrorize dissenting parents...

;) ;)

... that would have been a competing police force,

a very bad thing...

right?

:p

Well, I'm not sure the FBI's goons have done that yet, and they have no jurisdiction to do so, IMO.

;) ;)

Not exactly the point.
They were asked to look into it.

Maybe we should outlaw private security
so that they won't compete and rich Democrats
will start to see reasons why defunding the police is nuts.

The same ones who want to keep everyone else's kids in the public schools
that are not good enough for their politically perfected and protected progeny.

Well worth quoting and a perfect example of what the "progressives" think of themselves and the rest of the population.

Obviously they are "born to rule."

"failing" schools is a complex thing to talk about. But sure, let's whittle it down to a few sound bytes to blame your political opponents.

To be fair, trite cliches are what they specialize in. And three word chants.

Decades of stagnation and failure coupled with soaring costs are hardly a "cliche." They are iron fact. And we can add to that now the inescapable truth that they are being run totally by teacher's unions, for the teacher's unions. Kids are, at best, an afterthought.

That's what you get when you prioritize wealthyfare. Shrugs. WTF did you expect?

That makes no sense at all.

We're spending 3.5-4 times as much in inflation-adjusted dollars, per pupil, than we were 60 years ago, and we have nothing to show for it. Student performance has fallen, test scores are, at best, stagnant and our standing vis a vis other nations has plummeted.

Why on Earth would anyone want to perpetuate this system?

Control.

Some people here believe that they will be part of that control.
They believe that because they vote and think in a certain
way that they are the vanguard of the future and not
the blind repetition of history failed by similar dreams.

They don't know the history of purges when the authoritarians
begin to run out of other people's resources and because
command and control economies can work no better
than government-controlled public schools (that
are focused on abrogating basic human nature
and creating more "perfect" citizens
). It takes
the Liberty of personal choice to prevent
stagnation. But those who are today's
shock troops of change become
tomorrow's enemies of the
STATE...

Yes, I totally agree....we need to completely ban private schools.

The problem is that you folks like tearing stuff down without a replacement. Right now you are content to filter funds from the public ed system to line the pockets of the wealthy with charter schools. (Research it.) The reality is that charter schools have not improved results. Students aren't more educated and test scores aren't higher.

In the meantime you'll happily drain the public ed system in complete blissful ignorance while the taxpayers once again support some politician's rich buddies.

There is an irony in that fact. Those states/districts that spend the least per pupil tend to turn out students with the highest SAT scores. In other words a case could be made that the outcomes are inversely proportional to the dollars spent. To be certain there are mitigating factors involved. Many of the larger districts are saddled with spending a higher % of the available dollars on the maintenance of crumbling infrastructure.

Maybe that's why so many seem hell-bent of bringing children down
instead of elevating them. It's so easy to level the playing field that way.
Equal opportunity? Perish the thought! We must have equal outcome to prove we're not RACISTS!

Of course it produces generations of timid half-wits
and this reduces the chances of true advances
in the technological fields. We've stopped
creating new breakthroughs and spend
our time and energies on "tweaking"
things. Apple iPod 13? Who the
hell are they fooling? They
improved selphies!

Big whoop...

When public schools are the only game in town I can assure you that that school system is on course to mediocrity and lower.

Education funding should follow the students not be entrusted to a bloated self serving bureaucracy.

The education department needs to be disbanded and shitcanned, leave educating our children to the state level.

I’m not blaming teachers.

I am, at least to an extent. Education majors have the LOWEST SAT scores of all the 4 year degree programs. They also have the lowest GRE scores of all the post-grad programs. In any given classroom at any given time it's an odds on bet that most of the students are more intelligent than the teacher.

We can go a long way in curing our nations educational woes by merely abolishing ALL schools of education. You want to teach? Great! Get a real education in a real field of study.

"Rich buddies." Have you looked at administrator salaries lately? Hundreds of thousands for districts that are failing miserably. And, of course, the millions that get funneled back to the Dem Party come election time don't hurt.

And of course we have replacements: Private schools.

No ..this is what I think of unintelligent, uniformed folks talking about stuff that is way over their heads.

Most of the population understands the benefits of public and private schools.

No you don't have a replacement - there aren't enough private schools to replace the public school system.

Lame deflection. Again, these charter schools aren't doing the trick. They aren't outperforming public schools. They are wealthyfare and you are ignorantly defending them.

Raving lunatic.

.
People completely ignore the gross transfer of wealth to the top in America over the past 50 years, throwing millions of children and their parents into poverty, which creates challenges at home that kids bring to school every day.

Is it any wonder that Democrats are trying to lift more children out of poverty with President Biden's Build Back Better plan.

👍

Government schools are mostly overpriced babysitting centers.
