bannon indicted, arrest warrant issued

*smirk*

he's 'barely been mentioned'

On Wednesday, Bannon's lawyers asked a DC judge to delay his July 18 trial, citing a "media blitz" from the public January 6 committee hearings and saying the request was "due to the unprecedented level of prejudicial pretrial publicity."

DOJ lawyers said that Bannon is not as popular as he thinks he is.
"The Defendant's motion gives the false impression — through general statistics about the volume of viewership of the Committee's hearings and overall media coverage of the Committee's hearings — that all of the Committee's hearings and the attendant media coverage is about him," DOJ lawyers wrote in a filing on Friday. "The truth is just the opposite — the Defendant has barely been mentioned in the Committee's hearings or the resulting media coverage of them."

Sorry douchebag, “executive privilege” is the RULE and has been forever, as it should be! Any conversation(s) Trump had with ANYONE while he was POTUS, are covered and there are multiple presidents in the Courts that will verify! Nice try, YOU LOSE! Eat shit, douche!

How can he claim executive privilege when Bannon wasn't officially part of the administration or the campaign?

The federal judge presiding over Steve Bannon's trial pledged Wednesday to prevent the high-profile proceeding from turning into a "political circus."

Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee confirmed in 2019, shut down questioning from defense lawyers about the motives of the House lawmakers who supported subpoenaing the longtime Trump ally as part of the congressional inquiry into the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

"I do not intend for this to become a political case, a political circus, a forum for partisan politics," Nichols said.

the prosecutors at bannon's trial said they didn't want the defense lawyers to bring up bannon's offer to testify for the committee, in case it confused the jurors throughout the trial...
the defense lawyers were allowed, and the prosecution took it apart for the jury in a move that has me thinking of br'er rabbit and the briars
Calling Bannon's recent offer to testify "sudden," prosecutor Amanda Vaughn asked Amerling how much time the committee would have had to review information Bannon turned over and follow up on leads if he had complied with the subpoena.

"At least eight to nine months of additional time," Amerling said, adding that the House committee is presently authorized to last for an additional five months, through the current Congress.

"And so, as opposed to 14 [months] in total, the committee now only has five," Vaughn said.

Vaughn then asked whether Bannon's offer to testify included an offer to turn over documents the House committee sought last year.

"It did not," Amerling said.

"Has the defendant provided any documents since his sudden offer to comply on July 9?" Vaughn then asked.

"Not unless he's provided some since I've been sitting here today," Amerling said.

The trial of former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon appears to be heading toward a speedy conclusion.
Lawyers representing Bannon have now said that they will not present evidence or call witnesses to make their case that their client is innocent of being in criminal contempt of Congress, according to CBS News reporter Scott MacFarlane.
Instead, the trial will proceed directly to closing arguments that are due to start at 1 p.m. ET after the court returns from recess.
what a clown-fest!

trump can't pardon him now, not like last time

A question:

If you had been a President’s Chief Strategist and got him Elected in the biggest upset in Presidential Election History;

Would you protect him from attack by skipping the other party’s hearing?

Or would you show up at the risk of helping them hurt the guy you got elected?

In guess I don't understand some of this. What defense? You're subpoenaed, you go. If you get summoned to court and you don't appear, you get a bench warrant and go to jail. Why isn't he in jail?

You can fight subpoena by proving that it was improperly issued. It wasn't.
.so most likely just meant to waste time to run out the clock

Trump gave order to 'make sure' Jan. 6 rally was 'safe event,' Pentagon memo shows

Gen. Milley’s recollection undercuts months-long effort by Democrats to suggest Trump wanted to incite violence: many key questions left unanswered.

"...the IG recounts a fateful meeting on Jan. 3, 2021 in the White House when then-acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Trump on national security matters.

The complete passage — hardly mentioned by Democrats at the hearings or the news media covering them — is worth absorbing in its entirety.

"Mr. Miller and GEN Milley met with the President at the White House at 5:30 p.m.," the IG reported. "The primary topic they discussed was unrelated to the scheduled rally. GEN Milley told us that at the end of the meeting, the President told Mr. Miller that there would be a large number of protestors on January 6, 2021, and Mr. Miller should ensure sufficient National Guard or Soldiers would be there to make sure it was a safe event. Gen Milley told us that Mr. Miller responded, 'We've got a plan and we've got it covered."

In advance of the Jan. 6 rally, the president told the most senior civilian and uniformed leaders of the military he knew the event was going to draw a "large number of protestors," and he instructed the secretary of defense to ensure it was "safe" by having troops available. Democrats have not offered any evidence to counter that story.

The J6 committee is an illegal entity under its own enabling legislation. It is a kangaroo court where no defense exculpatory evidence is allowed, no defense cross-examination of witnesses or testimony is allowed. It is a one-sided show trial with one goal in mind, interfere with the 2024 presidential election in support of the Democrat candidate.

it's the system that individuals are effectively 'subpoenaed' to turn up for jury service... if they don't show, they are held accountable. is there any real difference between that and these entitled twats who refuse to accept and adhere to subpoenas to testify?
(yes, for the purpose of that question i am ignoring the fact he was supposed to produce documents first)

Jury Reaches Verdict In Steve Bannon Contempt Of Congress Trial

https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/ip3/www.huffpost.com.icoHuffPost|5 minutes ago
Donald Trump's former adviser was charged two counts of contempt of Congress for ignoring the House Jan. 6 select committee's subpoenas.
i didn't see the verdict in the article unless that 'charged' is meant to be seen as found guilty? (american english is so non-specific compared to english english)

I've lived in Washington in the summer, and I cannot believe that SOB is wearing multiple longsleeve shirts.

Will they allow him to layer his prison uniform?

And yet Lois Lerner and Eric Holder were held in contempt of Congress and yet nothing! We all know why, rules for thee and not for me! Contempt of congress hasn't seen the courts since the 1970's.
