Black Hawk's Treasure

Leia

Leia swam on determined, determined not to give in.
They might have sunk the ship, but she was not going down.
Out of nowhere it seemed, a boat drew along side them.
Relief rushed through Leia as she reached out touching the mercifully solid wood and trying to gain her breath.

"Ladies, I know you would rather go to hell, but... were not Captain Ash's doing I swear it. Truce till the matter is dealt with."

Leia looked upwards at the familiar voice and found herself looking into the face of Preach.
Fuck! How unlucky could a person get?!?
Her mind screamed.
He would surely take them hostage.
He would surely kill her.
The grudge between them seemed to have become personal.
And yet ... what alternative did she have?

Her head snapped back as the sound of wood splintering, shattering made her gape.

"The Bilge ... dear God .. no ... "

She whispered as the masts shattered.
Her eyes seemed glued to the horrific scene playing out behind her.
Only when she felt the hand closing about her and hauling her upwards did she snap back to attention.
She cried out in pain as he wrenched her shoulder once more.
She heard him exclaim then release her holding out his hand instead.

"Krysta?"

She saw the other woman nod, her face distraught.
Leia put her hand in that of Preach and allowed him to haul her upwards into the boat, thankful that his attention was taken immediately trying to haul Krysta to safety.
She struggled not to moan at the pain in her shoulder, the throbbing of her head and the heartache at the destruction of the Bilge.
She reached up with her right hand and rubbed an impatient hand across her face.
No tears. Not the time.
She was vulnerable enough without showing still more weakness to her enemy.
And enemies they were. None more so than Preach.
She watched as Krysta collapsed beside her.

So they were safe from the ocean ... but now what?

Captain Ash

She ran along the deck, hunting through old barrels until she found some powder and fuses. They looked old and she sure as shit hoped they worked!

She eyed the cannon nearest to her, pushed and tugged on the cannon until she got it close to the railing as possible. She pushed in the ball and then the powder behind it. Her hands shook, her mind was moving as fast as a bug's wings.

The how's and why's eating at her. Who was trying to kill her? Everyone knew, knew she was on that ship! Yet someone in her crew decided to kill her. Apparently they didn't think to see if she was still on the damned Bilge!

She aimed it as best she could towards the mast of the Mystique. "Forgive me Father.." She shoved in the fuse and hunter for something to light it with. She tore open a few more barrels and then ran into the captain's quaters.. Some where there had to be flint!

"GOD!" She cursed loudly, frustration eating at her, her pulse leaping with an urgency she had never felt before. "All I want is a blasted piece of FLINT!" She growled aloud, searching still in the captain's quarters.

None.. No where.

She felt tears sting her eyes in frustration, her hands shook as she felt again that hole opening up. A man from the Bilge crew managed to crawl over the railing and land with a thud.

"Do you have flint?" She asked without any greeting, his head shook as he lay panting for air. He had a nasty bump on his forehead, blood gushing from his side.. She turned and went back to searching.

Her eyes fell to the Bilge on it's side and sinking quickly, the scrambling bodies swimming for shore.. They were all going to blame her and she was here alone.. It made no difference now, she had to stop her ship from leaving this damned lagoon! The cannon fire stopped, the silence was eery in a way, she could heard laughter on board the Mystique and cheers..

"Mutiny! Those bastards will pay.. if I can find some damn FLINT!" She cursed and threw a barrel over the side of the ship. Her temper was rising and lord help anyone who got in her way..

Krysta ~

Voices seemed so distance, only focus I had was the way Leia looked at me as if to trust this man or not. Reluctantly just nodded and went back to look at the ship. This broke whatever strength I had, hands pulled me into the boat when all I wanted to do was go save the helpless ship.

Tears streaming even more so, mostly at not understanding what happened. Fell to my knees curling up to not show the tears, even though it was to late. The strength was broken and the enemy knew it. Whatever they had planned now would not matter to me, everything was lost. Who knows what was going through Thomas's head, suddenly wanting to be with him but not knowing where he was at the time.

Thomas voice was strong and devout through the chaos that ensued. He stood on the boat like a shivering night as wood and explosionjs danced over his head.
"LOWER THE BOATS! GET EVERYTHING YOU CAN OFF THE SHIP. THE WARHAMMER. EVERYONE GET ABOARD THE WARHAMMER!"
Thomas jumped from his boat, onto a long piece of rope that went alongside the Warhammer. There was no way of knowing just how many of his crew were still alive, or died either in the blasts, or overboard.
The one young mate, who had wanted to shoot Ashley. He had sent that one man down below, sent that man to his death because he didn't want innocent life on his hands.
And now, innocent life was on his hands, at the greedy and murderous feet of Ashley and her fucking treasure.
He got aboard, knowing from earlier shouts she would be here. His eyes crept like a wild predator for her form, her presense. He found it, trying to set up a cannon.
"One isn't enough," He ground his teeth together, anger fading out every bit of sight he once had. His eyes turned to slits, and something more than just hate ran through him, pain and suffering did as well.
"You want two ships after The Bilgewater? You fucking bitch."
THomas knocked her from behind, tackling her down to the ground as he tried to vigor not to tear her limb from limb. He wasn't sure just what he wanted to do to her. He didn't want to kill her, but that wasn't out of the question at this point. In all honesty, he just wanted her to feel the way he did now.
On her back, a knee over each side, Thomas hit her as hard as he could in her lower back.
There. That made him feel a helluva lot better.
"You," He grabbed first one of her arms, and then the other, "will be bound, you will be gagged, and in the morning, you will walk the plank."
A few of his men now were hustling over the side. Some in better shape than others. Some had it in their minds to return fire.
"No, no," He commanded them to stop, "Don't let them know we have this ship. Right now, it's our best defense. Let them think we are dead in the water. Get some rope to tie this one up, and start checking for supplies. There are two others down in the longboats. A preacher, and some oarsman. I want them tied up as well. First, I need to know if this ship is in working order or not."
More and more of his crew came over the sides. First just one or two, but in the end, over two dozen of his old team was running about the deck, trying to see if this ship could be used for anything more than firewood.

Leia

Leia lay back in the boat trying not to show the pain her shoulder was causing her. Krysta was of little support. She curled up sobbing and Leia wished with all her heart that she too could just give up and sob ... but that would serve no purpose and endanger them both. She cradled her left arm and reached out to stroke the other woman's back in a futile effort to offer comfort.

Her eyes flew back to Preacher as he untied his belt and threw the end to a boy who was struggling desperately in the water beyond.

"Ropes, belts, hands anything your mates can grab, we will tow as many as we can clear... we can't take any more aboard, we will flounder, Do it..."

She watched as he struggled to save as many of her old crew as possible and realised that for now he actually did mean the truce he had declared.

In no time it seemed the longboat was nudging the side of the Warhammer. Leia looked up realising where they had headed.
She looked questioningly at Preacher as he moved to her end of the boat and offered her his hand.
She hesitated once more, then allowed him to haul her to her feet, gasping again as she let go of her shoulder. Her head spun and she found herself leaning heavily against the man, struggling for composure.

Above her suddenly there were shouts, pistols drawn and aimed towards Preacher and the oarsman.
Leia blinked up in surprise recognising crew from the Bilgewater
Preacher's sword still lay on the floor of the boat.
He was unarmed.
She glanced at the man who still partially held her upright.

"Jed! Hold your fire!"

She called up placing herself broadly between the pistol and her "enemy".

"This was not Ash's doing. Is Thomas here?"

She saw the pistol lowered and a nod of the head.

"Take us to him before you act rashly. Or rather spend your time saving lives."

She gestured to those still floundering in the water.

"Our lives would surely had been lost if it were not for these two men. Such actions deserve a hearing at least.."

She appealed with an unfathomable look at Preacher.
He had saved her life and yet he probably still wanted her dead more than anyone else.
Despite that he had shown concern and even now still held her upright as she issued her commands to the underling.

"Now bring us to Thomas! "

She pronounced with as much conviction as she could muster knowing she must mask her injuries until they were presented to her Captain and he could make the decisions.
She looked at Preacher once more willing him to help her by complying and helping her to appear in control.
Indeed, his own life might depend on it.

"He will be eager to know Krysta is safe!"

She prompted hoping that she had bargained some time for her rescuers.
If only they could truly work together against their common enemy, whoever he may be?

Melvin Morecock

The first explosion flipped melvin head over heels off the Bilgewater and into the sea. Struggling with his pants around his knees, melvin managed to reach the water's surface and get a gasp of air before sinking again. Pulling his britches up enabled him to kick his way to the surface and another breath of air.

"Man!" he cried, "Someone can't take a joke." Before him the Bilgewater was being torn to bits. The sea was filling with bodies and boats as the crew abandoned ship. "You know," he said, waving his fist at the Mystique, "This means war."

"Pete," he hollered as the mast of the Bilgewater shattered and fell, "Where are ya?" The bird was nowhere to be seen in the smoke and confusion. "If you bastards killed my bird, I'm ging to flay the lot of ye."

Spying the Captain Tom rowing to the Warhammer, Melvin turned and swam in the same direction, grabbing a rope trailing from one of the longboats, his or theirs, he could not tell. As he watched the destruction of the Bilgewater, melvin was almost glad he had been tossed overboard. He was one of the lucky ones. Less than an hour before he and Leia had wrapped in each other's arms, lost in pleasure. They'd both be dead if they had been caught below decks. He hoped she had made it off safely. For the moment, the Warhammer was the goal, although if the Mystique truned her guns on the derelict, the island would be their only recourse.

As the longboat bumped into the Warhammer, Melvin pulled himself in, grateful to find Bilgewater mates scrambling up to the deck of the derelict. Further amidships he spied the Mystique's longboat with Preach and Leia standing, looking up at the guns leveled on them. Who was who's prisoner, he wondered.

Ashley

Her back turned, she never saw Thomas coming til he was too close to stop.

"You want two ships after The Bilgewater? You fucking bitch." Thomas was screaming at her as he lept for her. Too stunned to do much, she went down face first.

"GET OFF ME!" She bucked under him, trying to squirm her body from under him as he tried just as hard to keep her there.

The sudden pain of his fist hitting into her lower back and side was enough to still her. The pain robbed her of her breath and the ability to move. She saw stars trying to breathe again, her temper forgotten as he jerked her arms roughly behind her and tied them.

She felt herself turning a few shades darker and finally as he moved off of her enough, she inhaled deeply. Her face twisted as she coughed and wheezed, some man dragging her somewhere. She should have known the bastard would attack her the second he was on board!

The man pulled her into the captain's quarters and sat her down against the wall. She gasped and coughed but her breathing was evening out. "Ch-check the cannon.. check the aim... worthless pig!" She groaned, she even lacked the energy to spit at this stranger. It hurt to sit this way and eventually she lay down on her stomach on the dirty floor so that she could breathe.

Mia

I had to stop and sit down, my legs were tired, my head hurt.. and to top it off the Bilge was underwater and the Mystique was turning.

"Just fuckin' great.. Wonderful!" Throwing up my hands I eyed my companions and then the War Hammer now swarming with Bilge crew.

"We won't make it on board that ship without a fight.." I had my small knife, Sally had her own as well.. Danny looked too tired to do anything. I couldn't see Ashley anywhere on deck, hell I barely located Preach by the sound of his voice.

"I am not going to die out here.." Jumping up I headed down the beach towards the water and Preach.

"Preach! Johnathan! Over here!" I called out, waving my hands over my head to get their attention. Johnathan glared but waved us towards him, I assume we were to meet him on board?

What stunned me most was when Leia's face was seen as well as others from the Bilge in Mystique's row boat!? Were they captives? Hell no!

"There is no way they can blame us for this.." I knew one thing.. Get to the Cap'n and tell her who had her ship and make plans to get it back.

"Sally, Danny.. Come on.. We've got to swim to the long boat to get on board.." I moved back to Daniel and eyed his arm. "Can ya make it?" I whispered soft enough not to be over heard. Good lord all I needed was a male with a wounded ego on my hands.

Leia

Leia gasped softly as Preach tightened his grip on her.
His fingers cut into her flesh with unnecessary force.
Her head turned to his.
They were standing closely, her wet body pressed against his.
She shivered.

"Aye.. tell him and where is my captain? And why have you not even tried to put a shot across the bow of the munitious bastards on the Mystique for this is not her doing or mine."

His voice lowered then as they heard voices coming from the shore.

"Look Leia, that was the Mystique's doctor, she was left with the chief Gunner in charge of the Mystique. "

Leia strained her eyes to see for herself.
Mia she did not remember, but Dan ... she remembered well enough.

"It sounds if she is now on shore, you must get her to speak to Thomas, she will tell him and us what happened. Who has done this, who has turned the guns on the Bilge, for it was not Ash or I, I swear by our Lord's cross."

Leia nodded mutely. She knew Ash was not responsible.
She had trusted his word, but whether it was a good idea to have Dan and Mia running free or not ... she was unsure.
Glancing up she pronounced again.

"Go help their crew members ... the gunner and the doctor ... we will have need of them ... for a fight ... for healing ... "

She shivered again feeling chilled and desperately trying not to feel faint.

"Hurry up Jed!"

She called harshly wishing that she could get out of the long boat and safely esconced within the familiar faces of her own crew.

"Sooo... it seems we are forced to work together ... for a time ... "

She stated carefully trying to keep her wits about her, still not quite trusting him and painfully aware of his tight grip on her wrist and the disquietening hand he had slipped to her waist as he supported her weak body.

Vallen

He stood watching the chaos from the deck, his face serious and dark.

"What now cap'n?" His new first mate stood by waiting for new orders. "We gon' blow'em out?" He looked antsy for more action. The blood thirsty lot made Vallen's smiel broaden.

"Nah. They'll never leave this here island.. The ol' hammer isn't sea worthy. Fittin' ending." Vallen eyed the crew on deck, all those loyal had been tossed or killed, now he stood surrounded by men who would kill if he ordered.

"Poor lass, never had a chance." Vallen shook his head and turned to the men. "Let's cast off!"

"What 'bout the map Cap'n?" It was true, Ashley wasn't on board to give it over, but her maps were plotted in her cabin.

"We got what we need.. We head for port and then on to the islands.." He wanted to laugh out loud, they fell for it hook, line and sinker. Did they really think he'd send them to the map? Gullible... the lot of them!

"Revenge is nice..." He pictured them all fighting to the death and those remaining starving slowly. Fitting ending to a bitch who ruined everything! Sophie had told him all of it, for years they've plotted. Now it was all theirs for the taking.

"Cast off!" he barked out his orders. The bilge was three-fourths under water and useless... They had nothing, were nothing now. Killing them would be too kind.

The ship's anchor was pulled and the sails unfurled to catch the next breeze out of there. Ash's flag was taken down and his own colors hoisted high on the pole. His ship... if he didn't fear Sophie, he'd just keep on sailin' into the sun set and treasure.. But he was a weak man when it came to her, he'd follow her orders and possibly get her in the sack as well. His rewards would be great this time..

Krysta ~

Sat there for a few moments, watching the rest of the ship go down. Sea putting her to rest in a quiet grave as the waves finished her off. Took a few deep breaths gaining some focus and composure, waiting till most of the crew was out of the long boats. Voices and the rest of the noises were so distant for my mind was not in its right place.

Stood, watching Preach and Leia watching him even more so. Then realized I had no choice than to trust these people for now, for it wasn't their fault. Got out of the long boat, pushing my way past the ones that were ok and just getting to shore. Headed to those that needed help, was in complete silence the whole time. A few times I would wonder where Thomas had gone off to, then quickly kept attending the wounded and making sure we would have enough supplies to get us through the night at least. What was saveable and floating from the remains of the ship I would go out and bring back what I could. Keeping myself busy as much as possible.

Leia

Leia had told him to hurry up and Jed did indeed spring into action.
He dispatched men to intercept the other two crew members and he helped Krysta disembark.
Hauled onto the ship, she looked down at Leia with a worried expression, but Leia merely nodded and gave a tight smile.
After a moment's indecision she hurried away.
Jonathan too was permitted aboard.
Ropes, ladders were hauled over the side to help those still in the water.

And then it was only Leia and Preach.

Leia eyed Preach calmly.
She would have liked nothing better than to just collapse or curl up and give way to her throbbing shoulder and spinning head.
But the hand was not yet played out.
She did not trust him and he did not trust her.
They were at an impasse.

"Sooo... it's just the two of us ..."

Leia pronounced, but still aware of her crew members above her, men who were armed whereas.
Her eyes widened as she realised that Preach did in fact have a weapon in his pocket.
It must be loaded, but was it cocked?
She tried to keep her expression neutral.

"If you kill me, then your crewmates and your Captain are doomed. We wouldn't want that now, would we?"

She asked as she met his gaze levelly.

(I wasn't kidding, you want to be part of the story, you better get aboard the warhammer, or try swimming for the Mystique. I'm taking the ship out a.s.a.p.)

It was the last of the last. Only a few more survivors scrambled aboard. Those that couldn't get on the ship itself, were carried up either in ropes, or attached to longboats that were now being hauled up.
"Sir," a first mate came up to him, telling him of the situation with the ship.
"The sails are tattered, but they should work. We won't have any speed, but if we need to go somewhere, they'll help. There's not much of a leak. There's water in the lower hull, we think the seals have just given way, we're looking into it. The galley is scraped. No food or water on the ship. The rope, scraggly, is still good, it should serve us until we find something better. The cannons are, for the most part in working order, but there's hardly any black powder aboard."
Thomas leaned over the side, helping one of the final people aboard. He recognized the man immediately as the oarsman from Ash's ship.
He took the ropes out, and tied this one up. A mate dragged him back to where the captain was.
Thomas looked down to see the preacher. If he didn't know any better, Thomas could swear the Preacher was holding one of his crew hostage.
Another part of him, something that he used to think with before his ship came down, his brain, maybe, saw something else, just depseration from a man seeking help among the enemy.
"What is it, Father? You going to hostage off my own crew for safety aboard this ship? I see a few of your crewmembers scrambling on shore, maybe you can find solace there. I'm a busy man, and have to get a new ship ready for some revenge."
At that, a howl went out among the men, scrambling back and forth to get this piece of old junk running once more.

Ooc: Hold off posting for just a minute. Why just left, and I tired to pm her. As soon as she gets back on, we can talk for a bit and try to fix this slight little mess. I think we just both posted so close together. This only happens once in a blue moon.
Take a break just for a few hours at least. I think by the afternoon we'll straighten it all out. I would hate to have a little technicality ruin anything. We'll come up with something, don't worry.

Krysta ~

A few crewman that were capable of swimming were helping me get a few barrels and wooden boxes into a long boat that was close by. Took all we could that was able to be lifted and salvaged from the remains of the ship.

There wasn't much, a long boat full. Some food, gun powder, a few other needed items. Though there was no way it would last us very long. Three days at most, even then that would be pushing it. Grabbed a few more barrels that were floating about, the long boat had no room left for me and the members that helped. Though that was ok, if we were able to swim we were able to climb the ladders. Once on board of the Warhammer, helped unload the what supplies were found, got a report on the shape of the ship, began to help with what I could on fixing some it. Looking at the sails and a few other things, Had to make do with what we had. Went about doing what I could to fix them.

Still hadn't seen Thomas with where I was at, hearing his voice give out orders was enough for me to know he was ok... For the most part. Sent one of the crewmen to tell him what supplies we were able to save and he went instantly.

Leia

Leia watched as Preach's mind seemed to work, but a voice from above them interrupted her observations.

Thomas!

Leia smiled up at her Captain as she heard him ask if she, Leia were now a hostage.
Leia turned to Preach, wanting to shake her head and hoping he would respond in negative fashion, appealing though the idea seemed to him.

"Thomas, throw a rope, Leia is hurt; there is no way she can climb up the rope ladder."

A good move, but one that put him wide open to any pistol shots from her crew.
The rope was thrown downwards.
As Preach moved to catch and knot it, Leia swayed realising just how much support he had been giving her before.
She smiled as he grabbed at her once more.
She hoped the others had not seen, although she knew they must judging by their concerned faces.
Leia blushed. She hated to show weakness.
To be injured was detestable to her!
She stood, allowing Preach to secure the rope about her frame and felt the bite of the rope as they began to haul her aboard.

Despite her resolutions, Leia could not help the gasp of pain that escaped her lips as she was first hauled off the ground.
With every pull, her body jerked, seeming to wrench the shoulder.
Her head throbbed now.
Everything seemed to spin.
That was the relief, she told herself.
At last on deck she let herself be eased free of the ropes and felt her legs give way beneath her.
She winced as from somewhere fingers probed at the cut on her head.
But when they moved to explore her shoulder joint she let out a sharp cry.
.... cut .... bleeding .... concussion? .... dislocation ...
The words swam in her head.

"Get the fuck off me ... I'm fine ... "

She protested trying to pull freeof the helpful hands.

"Melvin ... "

She saw Thomas approach and look at her assessingly.

" .. did Melvin make it?"

She asked, dismissing her own state and showing more than a matey concern for her fellow crew ... member ...

"Shit! They're gonna leave us here!? Come on.." I jerked and tugged Danny with me, sally helping as much as she could along the way.

Moving to the other side of the ship, I called out for ropes. The water was shallow on this side, no swimming. I didn't think Daniel could make it if we had to swim again.

"LADDER! Hurry please!" I grabbed one and helped Sally up towards the deck, waiting until she was on before tying one to Daniel. Making a slip knot around his foot, I put the rope in his good hand and called out, "Pull him up!" Slowly Daniel was taken on board and that left only myself.

I noticed who was on board and with much aprehension I climbed the last rope tossed down. Climbing and being pulled at the same time, I landed on deck surrounded by Bilge crewmen. Eyes scanning the decks I noticed Johnathan being taken into the captain's quarters, tied.

"Shit.." They weren't aiding us, they were going to kill us!

"Y-you the do-doc?" I glanced down at a young man sitting against a cannon, his side tore open from a cutlass. "Aye." I knelt down beside him and peeled back the tattered shirt to gaze as the wound. It was going to need cauterized or sewn.

"You there.. Toss a barrel over the side, get some water.. we can boil it down to clean the wounded.." The salt might help as well.. I didn't look to see if the young man obeyed my command but I heard a few splashes and smiled tightly. "We'll get you fixed up in no time.." Taking out my dagger, I cut away his shirt and wadded it up.

"Press this to the wound to stop the blood flow.. It will work until we can get water and something to stitch you with.." I rose from the man and was suddenly surrounded by men, one of which holding rope.

"What are you doing?" I asked smoothly as I backed up a few steps from these looming men. "Am I guilty of something?" They ignored her and grabbed. Knowing it was spointless to fight them all, I allowed them to tie me up and push walk me across the deck. Pushed into the room with the Captain and Johnathan, I sat glaring at the guard.

The captain didn't look too tell, infact she looked defeated? "Johnathan, untie me so I can see to the captain." I moved and stood before Johnathan and his teeth. The guard made to stand and I hurried to explain, "Listen big boy.. I'm not going anywhere, Im the doctor.. I need to see her wounds." He reluctantly sat back down, still glaring but nodded his head.

"But ye gon'a be tied after.. doc or nay.." He fondled his pistol, waiting for an excuse to shoot me. Jack ass..

"Ashley? Snap out of it Cap'n!" I slapped her face and got a glare for it. Smiling more cheery than I felt I nodded my head, "That's better.. Let me see if you're injured.. And I will tell you how Vallen took our ship.." I noted Ash's eyes darkening, the pain from losing her family's ship. I felt bad for trying to cheer her up..
"I am sorry I failed Captain... We were out numbered. He had over eighty men of our crew hiding in wait.. Who didn't jump for it in the end was slain.. We lost everyone but those here.." I said nothing more about it, feeling the first tears begin to fall and did my best to stop it.

"Who is left Mia?" Ash's voice wasn't weak, just tired. good sign..

"We've got Preach, myself, the cook, Gunner, you and Johnathan left.. maybe somewhere on deck a few others, but I didn't see much when I got on.. Let me see to your wounds.."

"I'm not wounded, Mia." The captain lay there, saying nothing and making no effort to move. Either she was pissed off or ?

I moved back from her and sat down. "I need to see to Danny before he bleeds to death, those bastards locked me up first! Sally is unharmed, I have a few scratches but nothing serious.. 'bout all I can report cap'n." I fell silent, listening and waiting. Surely they would let me see to my wounded??

Melvin Morecock

"Melvin.............Did Melvin make it?"

"Aye, lass," I'm alive," Melvin said, elbowing his way to Leia's side. "I just had to pull me pants up first." leia tried to laugh but winced in pain. "Easy there, Lass," he continued, "ain't too many men coulda made it this far with your injuries.. Just lie still, ain't no shame in it." Melvin leaned over and brushed her wet hair away from her face, leaning over to whisper in her ear. "I'll be back to tuck you in later," he said and kissed her temple. A smile briefly crossed Leia's pale face "If you need some help getting her below," he said to the others around her, "I'll carry her."

"Graaaaaaaaaaak........Holy Shit.......Holy shit.....awwwwwwwk" Pete the parrot made a one legged landing on Melvin's shoulder.

"Holy shit is right," Melvin cried, looking at the bird. Blood flowed from a gash in Pete's head where his left eye used to be. "By Neptune's trident, they've knocked yer eye out. One more reason to gut 'em before we keelhaul the bastards. Ye'll be needin' an eyepatch now, ye crazy bird."

Melvin looked at Thomas. "The Mystique's movin' off instead of finishing us. They must think we're marooned. What say we float this tub and go hunt the whoresons down."

"Speaking of whoresons, " he grinned. "what'll we do about our guests? We can use the doctor for now. Do we keep the others or use them for chum?"

Leia

"Aye, lass," I'm alive,"

Leia lifted her head and looked into Melvin's eyes.
She was filled with relief.
She hadn't realised just how fearful she'd been that he might be lost until now.

"I just had to pull me pants up first."

Leia started to smile, but winced as her body shook in the beginnings of a laugh.
Instead she gasped as the pain cut through her unexpectedly. Somehow it seemed to be getting worse.

"Easy there, Lass, ain't too many men coulda made it this far with your injuries.. Just lie still, ain't no shame in it."

Her eyes widened at his perception.
Somehow Melvin had guessed what was in her mind.
His compliment reassured her.
She eased back relaxing at last as his fingers moved gently brushing her hair away from her face.

"I'll be back to tuck you in later,"

His suggestive whisper almost made her giggle, but the tender kiss on her temple warmed her more than blankets ever could.
She smiled up him and allowed herself to give in the the cold and exhaustion and admit the pain that she had been denying for so long.

If you need some help getting her below, I'll carry her."

His offer was interrupted by the appearance of Pete.
Leia was saddened by the bird's injuries.
Although he was a pesky parrot, all of her crewmates had a soft spot for the parlous bird.

"Speaking of whoresons, what'll we do about our guests?
We can use the doctor for now.
Do we keep the others or use them for chum?"

Leia opened her mouth to give her opinion that it would be rash to finish their prisoners off just yet, but instead, she closed her eyes and decided to let Thomas make his decisions without her interference. If her opinion was needed, she knew he would ask it.
She gave a soft sigh as her mind seemed to separate from the discussion and activity around her.
All she could focus on was a throbbing, a throbbing that seemed somehow to take over her whole body.
The chill too was seeping into her core and making her shiver almost uncontrollably now.

"Fuck... "

She murmued as voices continued to buzz around her, their words incomprehensible now.

Thomas barked off a few more things, as men began to run in different directions. He got orders from different mates, telling them of the supplies they had gathered, and that the Mystique was now far portside, and we could leave any time.
"Raise the anchor," He shouted, and a few men trudged up the deck.
"Come on," Thomas motioned for the Preacher to come to the stern of the ship, not many people were here, just the back mast and a tattered compass next to the huge rudder coming off the back.
"I'm in a very delicate situation here Preacher. From what I've heard, it sounds like something did happen that was fucked up aboard your ship. I don't know for sure, but I'll try to get to the bottom of it. All I know, is that my crew has just been in the fight of their life, and they are not very happy right now. I'm tying up all of the rest of Mystique's crew and putting them in the Captain's quarters for their protection. I think if my crew were alone with the rest of yours, you would all hang from the mast before dawn."
Thomas asked Preaher to turn around, taking a piece of rope, and tying it as loosely as he could over the man's hands. It was barely a knot, and he didn't bother to get rid of the sidearms he held.
"If you did nothing, then nothing will come of you. Let me handle my crew, let me get this piece of shit running, and then I'll find out what happened."
Others were already being helped into the captain's quarters. It was almost sad to see just how few of them were left. Barely six or more Mystique crew members. They were just a handful of a skeleton crew now.
He could use them.
His stubborn thoughts dropped back to Ashley, and her arrogant attitude. If she hadn't have acted so fucking stubborn, if she hadn't have acted like she knew, like she fucking knew what was going to happen, he wouldn't be forced to make this decision.
"She left, right before the cannons fired," He spoke, looking back at the tattered remains of his ship.
"She was in such a God Damned hurry to get off my ship. We were in the middle of talk's, and she wanted to rush off, without a warning. Convenient, that she left just before the cannons fired. She was out of the way just before the first one hit, and my entire crew took the blow. That's why I'm being careful Preacher. I can trust you. I won't fall asleep while you're on duty, but I sure as hell won't keep you at knifepoint. You are an honest man, but her..."
He sighed.
"I don't know if I can trust her anymore."
