Fed up with twitter and musk? Join Bluesky like the millions quitting twitter

What is Bluesky Social? Why people are going to this Twitter alternative

Bluesky crosses the 15 million user mark

Meta’s Threads is still outpacing Bluesky, having recently hit 275 million monthly users and growing at a rate of over a million signups per day. But Bluesky offers a very different experience. Both are ad-free (for now), but whereas Threads uses a single Meta-made algorithmic feed, Bluesky offers user-created algorithmic feeds in addition to its “Discover” and “Popular With Friends” ones.
New features that Bluesky has recently rolled out include video posting, pinned posts and custom fonts, and a slew of “anti-toxicity” features that let you do things like detach your posts when someone else quotes them.

Xitter has always been for dimwits with short attention spans. I can’t imagine BlueSky or Truth Social are any better.

It’s just not a communication format with much worth.

You believe I'm a dimwit?

My attention span depends entirely upon content

It's a social hub; in that context, the kind of communication fits well.

No.

I just have never seen the utility of Xitter-type apps.
I signed up for Twitter way back in 2009....promptly forgot about it.
I've found it's a great place for breaking news, and when Tangerine Palpatine began using it to issue decrees to his brownshirts, I started going there daily to see what the faux outrage du jour would be here on Lit.

Then Musk bought the joint from Jack Dorsey and the place went to hell. I was forced to see Musk's shitposts in my feed, and "the algorithm" brought all sorts of garbage to my timeline. Musk turned a blind eye to right wing trolls and disinformation, and I went there less and less. Then a few weeks back, Musk made a critical mistake...he changed the "blocking" function so that YOU could not see your STALKER's shitpost replies, but your STALKER could still read (and respond to you).

It seems quite a number of folks...mostly women....feel that that just enables stalkers. So the mass migration to BlueSky (Jack Dorsey's new "decentralized" version of Twitter) began. I registered yesterday and was amazed at how many folks I follow on Twitter were already there.

Best part so far? There is a continually updated list of MAGA trolls called, naturally, "MAGA". press the subscribe/block button and you'll never see 90% of the MAGA faithful. There is NO algorithm, you see who you want.

Last night I followed a discussion between Congresswoman AOC and the public about how she led an effort to defeat legislation that gave the Secretary of the Treasury god-like powers to revoke tax-exempt status of any organization that the Secretary deemed a "terrorist organization" (every anti-genocide organization qualified...go figure). In the middle of the discussion, AOC stopped and remarked how it was a breath of fresh air to have an "adult discussion" online without the usual mouthbreathers butting in and saying "go back to being a bartender".

I like the place.

Highly recommended.

Right now it's the number one app in the entire iPhone ecosystem being downloaded.

Bluesky has a little over 1 million users, X/Twitter has 106 million in the US, but getting one million engaged users is quite an accomplishment. Maybe Bluesky will due to Twitter what Instagram and TikTok did to Facebook.

So in effect, it’s just the hive minded buzzing about the same things. Got it.

Bluesky crossed the 15 million user registration threshold today.

"No fuckwits like HumpDayHoration cited as primary reason users embrace Twitter alternative".

Also, Britain's the Guardian newspaper said today that it would discontinue its presence on Twitter, citing a "toxic environment".

Decent, intelligent individuals can live just fine without engaging socially with MAGAts and their ilk - but the MAGAts and their ilk can’t live without engaging toxically with decent, intelligent individuals.

😑

FYI, I've survived without a Twit account of any kind. Lit is all the angst one needs: bothsidesism, fuck youism, fuck you tooism, and my dog is bettern' yours!

Seriously, why does anyone need to be fed online animosity?

Are you even from here?

Don't you have an exit?

Please, take the off ramp, it's so much better where you came from.

Joe, I'm from here. As to taking an exit, that's coming soon. And as it being better where I came from how would you even know that if you don't know where I am from?

BlueSky might find its own niche but it’s doubtful it will have much if any impact on X. None of the major news outlets have left X, nor have any of the well known sports, politics, and business reporters and commentators I follow. I’m told some liberal celebrities and politicians who were on Twitter have left.

I remember a time…not so long ago…in a galaxy far far away…

Where the Radicalized democrats, seeing they were being outmaneuvered in the alternative radio market (the Old AM radio😂) decided to go all beast mode and launch Air America or something lame like that. If memory serves me, It was the lamentable Albert Arnold “Al” Gore, of inventing the Interweb fame, and famously pushing lies about global warming, that was behind it.

It hung in for a few years and then fizzled out due to the lunatics pushing hate every day. I imagine this Blue sky 🙄. Will suffer the same fate if it’s the same business model. Nobody wants to hear gloom and doom every day…but shhhhhhh….don’t tell the democrats…

how much does Butters make selling WebSite Referrals here?

Is it enough to pay for her rent?
