Why do you think Anne Rice makes up her own type of vampire rather then using the traditional one created by Bram Stocker?

Do you believe that it was because Bram Stocker's Vampire did not fit her sadomasochism views?

An important element to consider in your paper (and there are many) may be Rice's need to humanize the Vampire and Stoker’s need to keep it a creature.

Dracula was a powerful force to be dealt with. Ancient and formidable. And always something super-human or sub-human, but never human. And the title character always seemed certain of what he was.

Rice's characters have a great deal more humanity. They are preoccupied with material possessions. They have angst. They mimic humans and ponder the implications of their state. They wonder that they might be evil, but never seem certain.

You may consider exploring the motivation of each author to present such characterizations.

Any paper you write needs to have more than a laundry list of comparisons. You need to explore author intent and dig a little deeper.

Another very interesting aspect to consider is the way the tales are told. A collection of letters and journal entries as opposed to an outright telling, or the premise of an “interview.” Both styles personalize the telling of the tale. What were the motives behind employing such devices, etc.?

Yes...

You should thank MP for her help. She took the time to assist you, you could at least recognise that.

My new "insight" is that you have very poor manners.

Bram,

Based his after the great prince of trans... in which was based on teh stories of the towns people... Hence forth the Count was born..

Ann,

Well her books were always wierd...

Hay Cyan didnt you realize that you where killed in Dragons of a Fallen Sun, by a bunch of damn elves? Well Mina didnt help... If it wasn't for her, you would still be the reason the elves where withering and dieing.

There is speculation that Bram Stoker's "Dracula" was inspired at least in part by a real-life famous personality whom he met on several occasions. Now who knows who that might be?

Grins and winks!

I read her books when I was in Middle school...that was awhile back! lol..I have not had the chance to read any of the newer ones though.

Flud?

You mean Elmer Fudd?

No, let me give you a hint. Famous now deceased actor has the same name.

For some more insight into Stoker, you might want to check out "Danse Macabre" by Stephen King. He goes into a lot of detail about the concept that MP mentioned. Dracula is an interloper, entering the lives of these unsuspecting people and generally destroying them. The few glimpses we get of his human side aren't very flattering.

As far as Anne Rice goes, there are others in Lit that can be of more assistance. I've read some of her novels, but I don't consider myself an expert.
