Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

hey...

It's time for an alteration in my musical universe. I'm rebuilding my car stick this weekend. I want upbeat music - nothing maudlin and nothing with a freakin' broken heart.

I am a fan of classic rock, 80s alternative Britpop, some pop (not too bubblegummy), old timey music from the 40s and 50s, jazz, some classic. I'm not a particular fan of harsh sounding music - harder rock, punk etc. For country, it depends.

I don't keep track of the newest and latest so I really don't know all what is out there. I'd love to get some suggestions. I'll take a listen to everything... even if it's not my normal, I'll at least give it a try.

Help?

If ya don't mind checking out some alternative or experimental go to hearthis@ and check out most anything by

Also try 'Still Corners', a UK group that does SynthPop which is somewhere between soft rock and New Age. Easy to listen to as background while doing other things.

This is more than a little different. The young guy is a superstar in Asia and Russia. The older more restricted to China. I dunno what to make of the band. Make sure you get past the first 40 seconds or so.

Interesting but not easily found on Amazon digital music.

Hey, I have love songs too. I just prefer not to show my sappier side. ;)

Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa

No, thank you.

That is a lot. And yes occasionally I do enjoy accordion music.

I have no idea who that is. Google did not reveal anything musical with that search.

I may have to forgive you for being cranky and demanding. At least give you one get out of free jail card. One. ;)

Good find.

The song is better than the video. I thought you had posted earlier about them too. Not just earlier recently but way back in the beginning of this thread.

It was either him or me... I usually push Rusted Wheel, but thats their new one

Jazz:
Woody Herman's Herds of the first half of the 1960s are excellent examples of a tight jazz band. Caldonia zooms along at the speed limit. After You've Gone, begins and ends with a solo by the keyboard player on a celest, and then zooms through this lovely song. Good luck to you on your search.

Ok, that was dumb. A bad short movie(?) overwriting the Danko Jones.

On the other hand Luk's video starts with a highly competent J-turn.

Be fun to try with AWD. stick is a lot easier to pull that move than an automatic. With an automatic you have got to lock up the wheels until that front end slides around and it takes some pretty good timing.

Not a chance a RWD frame in body Crown Vic hangs on a road course with an AWD STI. Maybe you can outrun a radio but there is a very realistic chance that you could ditch a couple of pursuers.

Almost 60 years active with various members.

The pioneers of electronic rock - arguably the beginning of New Age; before Yanni, before John Tesh, before Enya.

Tangerine Dream

I'm not sure I would call TD 'New Age'. They're kind of in their own realm in some ways and are a bit of an acquired taste. I started with 'Sunrise In The Third System" which is kind of an unusual blend of electronic and progressive.

Purely silly song with a funky beat that probably brings back childhood memories for many:

The House - Air Traffic Controller (Indie Group)

Excerpt of lyrics:

"So much to see and everyone knows.
The band's in the basement putting on a show,
the girls in the living room playing nintendo.
(the house x2)
3+4, come knock on my door
never the same kid you saw before
business out front
the party's back there
I'm talking about my house and not my brother's hair.
We had the house where everybody came.
We had the music we played the games.
And nobody's parents worried about mine,
my mother never left one child behind."

Herbie Hancock, 'Give It All Your Heart'. Funky. Jazzy.
