Alex Lanning was one of those people who were not only very hardworking he was also rewarded for his diligence. As controller for Hansen Electronic Ltd., he oversaw the expansion into 4 other states and now was responsible for the business plan of 15 electronic outlets in the western US. His boss Richard Hansen was something of a self-made man and had started with some venture capital and 3 stores in the Santa Monica area and now they started to make even Best Buy a bit nervous.
And so Alex was starting to earn more and more money and had was starting to enjoy his freedom. His job kept him to busy for a wife or any other kind of real attachments but he did enjoy going to clubs and since he was 30, kept himself in shape and wasn’t that bad looking with his short but slightly unruly dark brown hair, those slightly piercing grey eyes and the neatly trimmed stubble on his chin, he didn’t have any problems landing a woman – or two – on those occasions.
It was Friday afternoon, and the latest acquisition of a new location had been calculated so his work for the week was done. He switched off his computer, grabbed his briefcase and keys and left his office. At the parking lot he met Lamont, the head of finances, and they exchanged a few words and agreed to meet on Saturday for a round of tennis at the courts. Alex liked Lamont because he was also hard-working, and they knew each other for a few years now since they started together and Hansens. They would be joined by some other colleagues and Lamont even mentioned an invitation to a barbeque for the evening from IT Pete and his wife Sandra.
Alex threw his briefcase on the back of his Tesla and started to drive home for a shower. He was still deciding what to do this evening when the cars in front of him started to slow and stopped. It took a while and then he realized that his usual route was blocked because of an accident, and he had to choose another route. Since the move to the new offices had been 3 weeks ago, he didn’t really knew the area and so he switched on the navigation and let himself be guided on an alternate route.
After another few minutes he realized that he wouldn’t find home from here without guidance and that he never had been in this part of town. It didn’t look run down but it was more like an industrial area than anything else. This was why the red glowing sign that read “Crimson” over the door that was slightly ajar caught his eye immediately.
A club? Here? This was strange but he always was up for something new and so he steered his car to an empty lot and walked in. The interior matched the name. It was mostly in shades of red but still tastefully so. There was a bar, some booths that provided a bit of privacy, a small dance floor and a door that obviously led to some backrooms and the restrooms. It was still early and so not many guests where here but there was this woman at the bar that caught his eye.
