Disney Checkmates DeSantis

Disney pays above and beyond for its "privileges", and its buildings are held to higher building code standards than floridian norms simply because of the nature of its business

Judge in Disney-DeSantis Case Recuses Himself

U.S. District Judge Mark Walker said a relative owned 30 shares of Disney stock

“The federal judge handling Walt Disney Co.’s lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recused himself Thursday, landing the case in the hands of a judge who has in the past sided with the governor in blocking challenges to the sex-education law at the heart of the lawsuit.

“U.S. District Judge Mark Walker was originally assigned to Disney’s case, prompting DeSantis and other defendants to seek to disqualify him, citing comments he made in other cases that they said raised doubts about his impartiality. Disney challenged the motion, saying it misstated facts and misread the law.”

A rare second chance for DeSantis and his stooge administration to "judge shop".

Sure. Meanwhile the board of the Central Florida Tourism & Oversight District continues overseeing the district.

Where Disney fucked up was in not incorporating their district as "Disneyville." Had they done so they would have had to elect a city council and follow all the other rules for governing, but they'd still have all their privileges.

The next step is to consolidate Disney's case with the counter suit by Fla since the 2 cases were filed in different Federal Court Districts.

I believe that the court will do so and order the consolidated cases to be heard in the District where Orlando is located because that's where the defendant (Disney) "resides" and neither party would be prejudiced in access to discovery, witnesses, or evidence in that circuit.

Yeah, that’s not exactly true either. Can you show another special district that had its board replaced by the governor? There are over 2,000 in Florida so it should be easy.
Can you also show another business that had a legal contract canceled by the state?

Can you show impartiality of the government by naming one?
It's a witch hunt.
DeSantis may win the little battles, but is winning the war a good thing for anyone in Florida?
I don't think it's even good for Ron.
Be careful what you wish for, Ron.

Ursula should take his voice too.

You do understand that this is how an honorable judge, who is totally invested in the rule of law and not in politically biased manipulation of the law does it, right?

Yeah.

Comshaw

Disney handpicked this judge by filing in his district rather than in the district where Disneyworld was located. Rather than dismiss the suit for lack of jurisdiction and get lambasted by it from the press as well as lose his favorable Disney buddies, the judge took the chickenshit way out.

That's not honorable.

An honorable judge would have put it on the table and said that the suit didn't belong in his district and that the complaining party had "judge shopped" to get it there.

But you go ahead and think that being a coward is "honorable."

Identifying conflicts of interest and disclosing them openly is honorable.

Hope this helps!

I don’t know anything about either judge and will assume they are both honorable unless I see reason to believe otherwise.

True to form, enrich the suits, shaft the workers.

"But that warm relationship is in jeopardy as a new district administrator has reopened negotiations on a contract that was approved last month by the unionized firefighters, promising pay raises and more manpower.

A vote on the contract originally was targeted for last month during a meeting of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board of supervisors but it was never brought up, and it did not appear on an agenda released ahead of the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Under the three-year contract proposal overwhelmingly approved by 200 firefighters and first responders, annual starting pay for firefighters would increase to $65,000, up from $55,000. It also promised hiring up to three dozen firefighters and paramedics."

----

"Last month, District Administrator John Classe, who originally negotiated the new contract, was replaced by the board with Glenton Gilzean, a DeSantis ally who previously served as president and CEO of the Central Florida Urban League and will receive a $400,000 salary in his new job. The district also is paying Classe to stay on as a special advisor.

Board spokesperson Alexei Woltornist said negotiations with the union were continuing, without explaining why they were reopened with a contract already approved by the firefighters and first responders."

Why are they paying two administrators instead of honoring the contract?

I am old enough to remember leftists being anti-corporate. I literally cannot believe when I see liberals defending corporations like Disney, Target and In Bev.
I work for a huge investment bank. I have a vested interest in my company doing well. But I could not care less about any others, unless I own their stock. Even then, I can root against them. Our side makes money no matter what and our execs contribute exclusively to Dems.
Right wing is now more corporate skeptical than left. Same thing with military. I listened to an interview with Gen Milley that was so slavering that I could not believe it. NPR interviewer was fawning over his accomplishments (none listed; just that he was so brave and courageous, despite having never fired a gun in a conflict his entire career; though she said it was great that he put white men in their place).
Keep up the good work though. We had a marketing guy tell us that lefties are the best consumers right now since they share on social media. There are new economic ecosystems being set up by corporations to cash in on them.
Helps our stock price too.

We're not defending Disney. We're attacking government overreach and retaliation.

You should be happy that an activist governor is taking down an insanely powerful corporation. Teddy Roosevelt did it. Made America a better place for it.
Used to be leftist professors who taught me that in college. I did not agree until I saw the inner machinations of how big business rules this country.

I personally don't like Disney and think they should be broken up into several pieces like AT&T was. But it needs to be done properly and for the proper reasons, not as a result of a personal rampage by a Little Dictator Wannabee.

I don't support government retaliation against a business doing nothing.

Teddy Roosevelt didn't use his office to pursue personal vendettas.

You are amazing. Corporate America says thanks!
I can say that since I work with C-Level guys who love hearing stories like this. Carry on!
