Does anyone else need to be horny to write smut?

Like, I love when the smut flows out, but if I'm not horny, I can't get the motivation going. And when I am horny, it's a fine line between writing and getting myself off. Like, writing smut is constantly edging myself, because once I orgasm, the horny leaves.

Not exactly asking for help or advice, mostly just trying to figure out if anyone else has this problem too.

Not really. If I start writing then the flow of the words probably will be enough to get at least some juices flowing. So to speak.

For me it's just writing. I'm able to focus on getting the story moving in the direction I want. Maybe years ago I would've gotten horny, but not now.

There's definitely times when I need to edit more closely in the morning. Typos and incorrect autocorrects, obviously...

I’m usually not very aroused when I’m writing, as others have said, it can be distracting. But I do feel it when I get a really good scene going. Yesterday, I had a flash of inspiration for an ‘On The Job’ story, I was hard most of the four or five hours it took me to write it out.
Didn’t follow up on it though, just didn’t feel it when I was done writing.

My evidence for whether a description works in my story is whether or not I'm aroused. Most of my stories are what I cal simple erotica. Those that stray into plot and character are my least successful, in my opinion.

As for the problem of physically putting words to "paper," I develop the story, complete with important phraseology, before writing it down. The arousal is less as I write it down.

I don't need to be aroused to write smut but a mild arousal does get my imagination flowing and it keeps my writing enthusiasm up. Strong arousal is detrimental to writing as it's a distraction more than anything else.

I started out writing everything at the same time, and I knew I was on to a good scene if i was starting to get turned on.

Lately, I've been focusing on advancing the plot that I write up to the sex scene, then type (ADD SEX SCENE) and skip to the end, and keep the plot going. Once I'm done, I back fill in the sex where needed to finish it.

Like Awk said, I don't NEED to be aroused, but it doesn't hurt.

I find that my best writing occurs when I am writing for someone else's pleasure. If there's a woman I am chatting with and she inspires me to write something for her, that is the best. I get excited and aroused and I just can't write fast enough.
A little different from what you describe, but maybe a different shade of gray. I miss not having someone to write for

Like someone else said, when I'm writing personal stuff for a friend, I'll get excited knowing they will be excited when reading what I have written for them.

But in my stories, since I'm usually thinking of the whole big picture, I don't really excited for the sex I write. It's just a component creating a complete erotic story in my mind.

I'm a pretty descriptive writer, so when I'm writing sex scenes I'm usually more concerned with the mechanics of the human body than how 'hot' it is. I do find that when I am feeling horny I want to write sex scenes more than other stuff. On more than one occasion I have let my primary planned work sit so I can go work on a sex scene for another story. On the flip side of that, a sex scene is just another scene helping to tell a story so I don't have to be horny to write sex scenes.
