Dragon*Con 2007, SF and Fetish...

According to Wikipedia she was 62 or 63 at the time she joined the Enterprise.

I vaguely recall his character. I saw some of the show and liked it but have never been good about seeing shows regularly. I need a DVR, lol.
Oh you're right! Memory Alpha shows her birth as 2088 and she joined the Enterprise in 2151. Yup. As for Soval, you can check out his pictures at Soval on Memory Alpha. :)

It never clicked before but yeah, that's him from Alien Nation. I can see it now that I'm looking for it. I liked that show. Given the constraints they had it was very well done.

Given the improvements in cheap production I'd love to see someone actually do a good prime time werewolf or vampire show now. The last good werewolf show I remember was on Fox when it was still a two or three night a week channel.

Writing was good. I don't know if the acting or production has held up. I have a bootleg video of it somewhere and am afraid to stain my memory of it, lol.

As far as vampires ... there was Kindred but it was god awful despite a few bright points. Its quality would have gone up a magnitude if they'd not had the horrible human lead character who had no charisma and thus did not act as the figure you could empathize with. I'd have to say that Forever Knight was the last good vampire tv show but parts of it were questionable too.

I never fetishized vampires per se but I met a lot of sexy women LARPing vampire many years ago. *sigh* I don't miss going to cons seeing who I could hook up with (had more success at the Dawn contest anyway). A collared slave of my own whom I also happen to madly love is infinitely nicer but I'd be lying if I said I had secretly hated it back then, lol.

Recently, the Lifetime cable TV network was running Blood Ties, an adaptation of Tanya Huff's Vickie Nelson series of books. I only saw a couple of episodes but it wasn't a total hose job.

Forever Knight is still one of my faves though.

I'd forgotten Blood Ties actually. We saw the first two episodes and missed it after that. It had potential as the Henry and Vicky actors actually ... well, could act. I need to hunt the others down on bittorrent I suppose. I thought they were killing it when they started moving its time around (usually a sign a network wants to kill a show) but I just checked Marketwatch and apparently it got renewed for a second full season (22 episodes).

Yeah, lunar and I have read the books. I lost the third Omnibus with the fifth book and short story collection in the move and bought it again this last weekend to catch up with her. She's also read the Henry without Vicky books so I need to catch up on those too.

I WANNA see! I loved the books. The new books have some gay themes in them and are good too!

I wanna see the show!

Cool!

yeah, they skimmed over the gay stuff in the first books because it wasn't central and Huff was probably trying to stay commercial. I think lunar told me that she's a lesbian herself. /shrug

I guess by the time she got around to the new Henry series she either felt confidant enough in her fanbase or developed a specific gay following that she knew would follow it. Personally I'm one of those adamant hetero-sexual men but gay material doesn't bother me as a reader. I'm so desperate for good supernatural fiction I'll read about gay centaurs butt fucking in a jello tub if I have to.

*chuckles*

That's hawt!

*giggles*

I LIKE the gay stuff, it adds another layer to the story. A good story is like a parfait . . . yanno?

No Vicki, its Henry and his blood doll / boy toy and various supernatural hijinks. I haven't read them yet but lunar has I have the impression that Huff has even more of a tongue in cheek approach than she did with the Blood books. But she's good enough a writer she can do it.

Most of the first books were based around Vicky and Mike and Henry. Henry's bi, so it wasn't much of a plot point - she did skim around his and Tony's relationship, which is were the second "Shadow" series takes up, and probably why the gay element is more provasive - since Tony is gay and not bi and is hot for one of his coworkers, who is a playboy into big boobed blondes lol

Personally, I LOVED them!!! I wasn't sure at first that Tony could hold his own series but he did pretty damn good! Vicki does show up for one scene, but if you blink you miss her lol

Or is he just using them for a "beard?" In the last book I read it certainly seemed that might be the case!

*wink*

hmm... impressions on these ...

Cruxshadows - They do great shows and I like using their albums for scene music.

Emerald Rose - I know they're popular but I can't stand them.

Voltaire - Very much like Cruxshadows. I've heard them play a whole Cruxshadows set to poke fun that they sound so much alike.

Atlanta Radio Theature Company - I love these guys. They did a couple of Lovecraft productions years ago I found on file sharing that have a regular spot on my iPod rotation.

Arthur Suydam - I've never met this guy but he does buxom women in scanty harem outfits (or even less) very, very well. Other than him although I recognize a handful of artists names none I'd particularly get excited about though they are big names.

Lots of TV and Movie people I know. I wonder how Vanessa Angel has aged? I have one friend that isn't kinky but he'd let Claudia Christian tie him up and pour wax on him and shave it off afterward. I have to admit I was enough of a ST:TNG fan I wouldn't mind meeting Brent Spiner. Fred and George Weaseley will be there? heh, my teenage daughter had no interest in going ... until now.... Erin Gray has not aged well but there was a time *cough* um, we'll leave teenage sex slave fantasies out of this... Several Firefly alumni which is one of the great tv shows of all time...

James Marsters. I actually have a Dragon Con story about him. The last Dragon Con I attended I was in a hallway off the main corridor of events near where the big conference rooms were used for the events that drew crowds. I hopped into the bathroom there since it tended to be used less (read cleaner) at least until later in the evening when those events kicked in. Suddenly there was a bit of a bustle behind me but I ignored it and was finishing up my business at the urinal when I saw James Marsters taking a leak next to me. I finished up and went and washed my hand and when he washed his said hi, I enjoyed his work on Buffy and moved on quickly. During this time about three security guys were standing there and seemed to be deciding if they should throw me out of the bathroom.

Later on one I told this story to one of the Dawn contestants I was chatting up and she asked me to slap her ass with the hand I shook his with. I did so gladly. Anyway, that is yet another story.

No writers that set me on fire though plenty of well established folks. I'm not a fan of Michael Stackpole but I have enjoyed his panels which I've always learned something from.

Well I have all my Ringo stuff autographed already... and David Weber I've met before, but it wasn't an opportunity to pester him to get my Honor Harrington books autographed.... So this time Weber gets bounced.

I was director of Autographs for the 2002 - 2005 Dragon*Cons so I've had the opportunity to meet a LOT of the authors and other guests. And I've got Star Trek: TNG cast pics that've been waiting better than 10 years to get their autographs... *grin*

Yes... I'm a fan-boy! ;)

He has agreed to appear at the con, barring professional (that is to say "paid acting") commitments. :D

Yeah, he's a realist which in the acting world means "take the gigs as they come."

I interpreted for James Marsters a few years back when he was at a Baltimore convention. He was absolutely the top star...I don't remember who else was there that year but he drew the biggest crowd by far! (I'm pretty sure this was before Buffy went off the air...like maybe the last season?) He sang and played guitar and everything, it was pretty cool. He was a lot shorter than I was expecting.

How I wish I could come. Not that he'd actually realize I'm the perfect girl for him when he has an English accent, bleached hair and fangs or anything . . .

Heh, I always found it amusing that many folks did think the was British and much younger than he really is. He's about 44 which would have put him at about 34 during the first season of Buffy. And in fact sounds more like a surfer than Spike in his casual conversation. A real surfer, not the "dude" archetype of so many bad Pauly Shore movies of course.
