Why not get on a Greyhound (there's one tonight at 9:45 from the Port Authority bus terminal) and go to Texas? Or any of the other places he's already got an offer of accommodation?

$118 to go all the way to Texas, bet ya Georgia's even cheaper!

I'm just trying to be practical; New Yorkers are paranoid out of necessity, and he couldn't have stumbled into a worse place to have to rely on the kindness of strangers

Shelters in NYC should really be avoided at all costs.

From NYC, he can get to a wide range of YMCAs by subway. However, he needs to call (or have someone call for him) to check availability. These would be VERY inexpensive.

If he's really up the creek, he can go to Time's Square. He'll find a Travelers Aid unit on the south end.

You know, I really don't want to come off as obnoxious about this, but...

If you're really looking for help from the members of this *public* board, a little background might help. I'm sure more people would be willing to lend a hand if they knew what the problem was.

The fact that I don't know who Xander is is besides the point. But I would like to know what exactly the problem is... not just that he's stuck and broke in NY, but how he got there in the first place and how this whole mess started.

There's rather regular noise on the board abou this, but zero real information for helpful souls with enquiring minds.

I'll tell you guys what I can without hurting anyone involved... but Xander has no place to stay. He went to see Angel, and something has happened to Angel, they can't find her! He has no more money to stay in the motel, and Angel's family can't put him up. He's in Rochester NY, and no, he doesn't have a Visa. I only know what I know because of what NDS and wife told me. Anyone know how to get a hold of Ambros? If anyone can help, get ahold of Nobody Special or his wife.... they both post here. I'm thinking money might need to be wired to him, but I have no idea how to get it to him. Right now we just need somewhere he'll be safe until we sort this all out. Anyone who lives in NY area, I'll vouch for Xander as someone you can trust to keep at your house! He needs our help!

A copy of the Village Voice will reveal a TON of very cheap roommate situations, including a service called Roommate Finders.

An even quicker way is to stop by the office of the Screen Actors Guild and look on their public bulletin board -- very cheap roommate situations are always posted.

There are also Youth Hostels in NYC (though I can't tell you where).
