Getting stories going?

If you are struggling with starting the story then don't start at the beginning. Pick a scene you want in the middle of the story and jump into the action (sex or otherwise) and write that out.

Then work back to the beginning. How did the characters get there? Now write that out.

Rinse and repeat.

This.

It's not supposed to be painful, OP. It's supposed to be fun.

When the words won't flow, I just leave them and move into a different brook. Eventually, I find one that flows.

How do y'all get stories going, where do y'all get the motivation? I have so many ideas in my head that I want to get out there. But when I try to type a story out, I just can't seem to do it. I either don't like how it is going or loose interest. How do y'all that deal with the same thing combat this?
I start with the characters. Who are they? What do their names mean? How do they think or feel? How will they respond in a given situation? Where do they live and why is that important? Then I sketch out the plot points, usually by trying to think of things that amuse me as a writer, and then I put the characters into the plot and change things around according to how I think they would actually behave. Then I write out the story from there. I'm not sure how successful I am, but it's a fun process.

I write the bulk of my raw material in a note on my phone. That way, I can use small breaks to write out parts of a story, or longer parts when you have the time.
Works well for me, but I also spend a lot of time mulling over the story in my head, thinking of certain scenes I want to add, connections or foreshadowing and so on.
Biggest problem I have with that is all the cool plot twists and dialogue exchanges I’ve lost because I didn’t write them down.
I also have another note with bullet points of what I want my stories to contain, in order to make sure I include certain elements I want to have in the story.
