How do we know if you're a M or F posting?

I'm very new here on Lit and enjoying it very much.
Hope I'm not being pushy as a new guy on the block with this request.

When reading the posts and replies often times there is no clue at all whether the writer is female or male.
I've looked at many of the profiles and often I still can't figure our what gender they are.

If you would, please, put something in your profile or, better still, in your signature that will show up at the bottom of the post to let us know what gender you are.

Even the avatars don't always lead to the correct conclusion. That can be embarrassing. ;)

Thanks

first, the ones who post pictures (me) have to be who they say they are....your not allowed to post copyrighted material that's not your own on the am pics section.

secondly, you ASK the person in PM....it's not that hard.

I realize that we all want some amount of anonymity, but general location and, especially, gender sure would be nice to know.

It would probably save us all a lot of time and questions if you added a bit more like your general age and sexual orientation. No sense getting a lot of requests from others if you're only looking for e-mail or R/T with men or women only.

That's all well and good. IF you're running a personal ad.

If someone isn't running a personal ad, why does it matter? If YOU are interested, take the time to strike up a conversation. The vast majority of people on Lit are not looking for hook ups, so the age, gender, location, and/or orientation of the posters is irrelevant.

I'm pretty much an open book. My name, Geoff, is normally associated with the masculine gender. My location is in my profile, but I'm out so I don't give a rat's rear end, and my av is ME (which several litsters who've met me will happily confirm, even if Gypsybyrd says it doesn't look a lot like me....) My tag line "Equal Opportunity Sadist" indicates what I'm into (hurting people) and who I'm willing to hurt (pretty much anyone who volunteers). I'm easy to figure out.

Others out there don't care. Or like to be flirty and fun but have absolutely zero intention of starting a relationship or meeting anyone off the boards so it's a WTF issue for them.

Get used to it. No one does it to deliberately annoy you, but frankly, the vast majority of folks here won't give a rat's ass if it pisses you off to no end. And a LOT of folks will find your annoyance amusing and then be deliberately vague JUST to yank your chain.

Try posting this on the General Board... OMG they'd eat you alive! *LOL*

Ohhh, and Welcome to The Playground!

Personally its no one's damn business who, what or where I am. Thats just my attitude. Its pretty obvious what my gender is but the rest is privileged information which must be earned. I might be overly cautious but its my nature to be. I am sure others feel the same way. But that <--------- is just my opinion.

That will help with some....

Go HERE.

That will help with some....plus that list needs UPDATED with all the new posters who would like to share that information. There are ALOT of new people/new names these days.

:D

You're welcome!
Thanks, but there is a lot to search through to find someone.

I just signed in and realized it is in alphabetical order in case you didn't notice that. I had no trouble searching out someone! :)

good luck... if you could make all this happen here at Lit, then it would be like the 8th wonder of the world. Then you could take on getting all the spelling cleared up and everybody using proper grammar....lol.

Seriously though.... if I am reading a post and a person is asking for something that might interest me but does not bother to say whether they are male or female and their profile is almost blank, I just move on... I see no sense wasting time when they don't bother to supply enough information from the start....

That might be asking the impossible to clear up all those problems, Calvin.

If we all just moved on without replying do you think they would get the hint? Not likely. That's just what I've done on the dating sites and other places. If someone wants a friend or a contact, then they should tell what it is that they want and something about who they are. How else can someone develop an interest?

Geez, I didn't mean to annoy anyone. You do like to "hurt" people, don't you? Even if it's only with a "Flame" of words, huh? LOL!

No, I didn't notice that. Makes it much easier. Thanks.

*nodnodnodnod*

Only not much a flame at all... No major invective, no name calling, abuse of your ancestors, or derogatory comments about your sex, orientation, intellligence, hair color, choice of automobile, clothing or sports franchise. ;)

Now if you want flames... those folks on the GB? OMG! The make Simon Cowell look positively friendly!

And yes, I will concede the point that on the GLBT personals it could be a good idea to be a little more concrete in disclosing one's gender and preferences. It could be terribly embarrassing to set up a date only to find out that the parties involved took their gender bending slightly out of parameters... :D

Evil_Geoff,

No, not much of a flame, but I thought I detected some anger there.

There was a post from someone with no hint of the age or gender in the post or in the profile. This person was going to be traveling in my area and looking for a hook-up. So, I sent a PM and asked. The person turned out to be a younger guy, so I wasn't interested. A little more information sure would have been helpful in the beginning, eh?

Also, it would be nice to know if a post or reply was coming from a male or female to better understand someone's point of view on a subject.

If someone wants to be mysterious I suppose that gives them more opportunity to "play" in different kinds of games. So be it.

Now, I have to get back to work on solving the rest of the worlds problems. ;)
