don't know what the fuss is all about.

look for the interesting people, those who make you laugh or can teach you something. ignore the rest.

most those i see complaining about the GB are pretty dull posters who seem to think anyone with a high post-count gives a tinker's cuss about it. like any social group, it's a balancing act of the company you're in and how much you can contribute to the joint experience.

it's not everyone's cup of tea, but why limit your experience of Lit when there are many forums to visit? if you hit 'new posts' you might find something to tickle your fancy or pique your interest almost anywhere.

I agree that there are some bright, funny people who are fun to be around on the GB but "what all the fuss is about", at least for me, is that in addition to some quality people there are also bands of bullies. There are those who will rationalize bad behavior by saying, that is the way of the world...the strong survive....and that certainly is true. But just like in real life each of us can choose to live to survive or live with compassion and dignity. I don't much care when players abuse other players, but it's ugly to see a "n00b" attacked like a pack of wolves so that the bullies can feed their egos. For some of those people it's more than words on a screen.

And I absolutely love how noobs think the GB is stupid when they have no fucking idea what is going on.

Here's another little tip for you, the GB is like an iceberg. Ninety per cent of it is below the surface. If you base your impressions of it purely on what is posted on the board, you're going to look like an idiot.

What I love about the GB is how the topic of a thread goes from point A to point Q in 2.5 seconds! Too damn funny!

sometimes things are simply not what they seem to be to someone who's either less familiar with that particular forum or who are, in fact, new to the site in general. a lot of these 'attacks' you may have witnessed are no more than the regulars jumping on yet another lame alt of a poster well-known for their crass/boring/vile posts. At other times, it's more like a well-intentioned meet&greet for a true nOOb to see how smart and witty they can be in return.

Yes, sometimes people get it wrong, go too far, hit on a nOOb in a rough and predatory manner -but the majority of posters i speak with aren't that way inclined,though some have been known to post in a manner i definitely don't approve of. Arguing with the racists gives them air - bumps their posts. All you can do with these cases is flag the posts and put the poster on ignore.

I can't say i had much trouble at all, as a nOOb. Certainly nothing i wasn't able to handle. It's only text, ffs

that's what i love about it too. it's mercurial! nothing i love more than sharp minds exchanging responses

witty, sharp, insightful, clever, kind too - its not all pig ignorance, politics and racism.

Actually, I really do enjoy reading some of the posters thoughts and opinons on the GB. Even if some of the other posters seem to be childish and immature at times. But hey, I'm sure that I appear the same way to other people on some of these threads at various times. Personally, I'm not a vicious or mean person so that probably makes me appear like fresh meat to the wolves. Oh well, to each their own.
