How to write moaning noises?

I struggle to write them out how I'd like them to sound in my head. I have:

• "Ohhhhh"
• "Ohhhh yeaaaa"
• "Ughhhhhhh"
• "MMMMMMM"

Any tips?

I'll sometimes use "hmm" or "yesss!", but mostly nowadays I'll write something along the lines of "Her breathy moans became short grunts and gasps."

Yeah, I usually end up just describing moans or breathing with words, rather than turning it into dialogue. It's very tricky to write as dialogue. If I do put moans in speech, I tend to not add extra letters, as I think it looks a little out of place and over the top (porn-ish) - but this is a matter of taste on my part.

Usually I'd just use simple words, italicised for impact. Often with an ellipsis.

"Oh..."

"God, Angela... fuck."

I use "oh" for female ones and "ah" for male, sometimes multiplying the vowel or the 'h' (but not both and not very excessively).

I'd rarely make it an unterrance on its own, though. Normally I just intersperse it into a heavily ellipsized dialogue that the moaning character struggles to get out because, y'know, it's hot and wet and big and tight and OH MY GOD

Similar, but no more than three or four letters repeated. More than that and it's a cat on your keyboard.

I try to keep it to a minimum. If there's a lot of it going on, I'll just describe it in narration. I think trying to transliterate the sound of moaning can get really silly, really fast. (There is plenty of silliness in my stories, but I try to keep it intentional.) "Oh" and "ooh" are mainstays. "Mm" is a contender.

Then there's "unf."

I once saw a video of a beautiful trans girl* being jerked off from off-camera by, I assume, the luckiest person on Earth. The noises she was making were not "oh" or "ooh" or even "mm."

They were "unf."

If I am feeling especially attached to the scene, if I really want to ramp up the sense of vulnerability, intimacy, and the reckless abandon of pleasure, I will deploy "unf."

I had to go back and look at my most recent story. I think about 75% of the time I just say what is happening:

- I can’t do anything more than moan and whimper
- Someone is yelping in loud but muddled moans - wait that’s me.
- With each blow, I give a garbled-sounding cry around the gag in my mouth
- Now instead of crying out sharply with each blow I just let myself moan continuously

But when things get really hot I start putting a lot of extra letters in there, along with plenty of f-bombs and invoking deities.

-Oohhh god, yes
- ohhhh god fuck
- Ooooohhhhhh…Yessss

Maybe not the most original but it gets the point across. I think too much mmmmmmmmmm, ooooooohhhhhh, and aaaaaaaahhhhhhh gets really old. But if you mix it up with plenty of other descriptive language, emotions, etc it can work.
