Honestly, they don't take that much longer.

You guys have a Food Network?

Oh man.

And it doesn't aven have a camp name, like Cuisine TV or something? Just plain ol' Food.

Mmm...food...

Good Eats with what's his name?

Alton Brown!!!!!! Oh I love love love love him... such a crush... so stupid... lol
He's so geeky smart and quirky...

and, YOU TOO, Abs...?! I thought I was the only freak... the Food Network is just mesmerizing during the holidays... I almost wish we didn't have cable anymore, because every time I turn on the tv, I inevitably end up there...

as for pancakes...

the basics:

* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* 2 tablespoons white sugar
* 2 tablespoons baking powder
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg, beaten
* 1 cup milk
* 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in milk, egg and oil. Mix until smooth.

2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

I just need a proper recipe for the pancakes you people eat over here. Mine were an unmitigated disaster.

Blueberry Pancakes
Submitted by: Sara
"This is an excellent recipe for blueberry pancakes. A delicious, nutritious and flavorful breakfast. When blueberries are out of season, use thawed frozen blueberries." Original recipe yield: 4 pancakes.

INGREDIENTS:

* 125 g all-purpose flour
* 5 g baking powder
* 0.4 g ground nutmeg
* 0.3 g ground cinnamon
* 10 g white sugar
* 1 egg
* 120 ml plain yogurt
* 120 ml milk
* 30 ml vegetable oil
* 110 g fresh blueberries

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat griddle over medium heat. Stir together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar, set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the egg, yogurt, milk and oil. Gradually stir in the flour mixture, then fold in the blueberries.
3. Pour batter onto hot greased griddle, two tablespoons at a time. Cook over medium heat until bubbles pop and stay open, then turn over and cook on the other side until golden.

I've made this before but without the yogurt. When you pour the dough into the pan use a gravy ladle - it works perfectly. Just pour a small circle and let it spread. If you have a good-sized griddle that evenly heats you can try for 4-6 cakes.

If I make plain pancakes I always add vanilla and a bit of cinnamon & sugar. You can almost eat them without using syrup (my intention) and my kids love them. I don't make completely from scratch too often, though. I use the box mix and then make my own special additions.

(Oh - if the conversions are screwed up, there's a place on that site to fix it. Hope that helps!) :cathappy:

PM on its way

Edit:

made these so often, I know it by heart:

Ingredients:

2 cups buttermilk
1.25 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
2 eggs, separated

Put buttermilk in bowl large enough to hold everything and sprinkle with the baking soda

sift together the remaining dry ingredients

mix the yolks into the buttermilk

beat the egg ehites to soft peaks

add dry ingredients to the buttermilk and whisk briefly to combine (it's okay if it's a little lumpy)

fold in egg whites

fry on lightly oiled griddle, that shoudl be set at 400 deg F if you're using an electric. I use one that just sits over a pair of gas burners and start cooking as soon as the oil smokes a bit

once the bubbles on the top of the cakes begin to set, flip and finish cooking

serve with butter and REAL maple syrup - don't go spoilin these with Aunt Jemima or Log Cabin (maple FLAVORED corn syrup, ghastly stuff)

My five year old son loves Food Network, he always has since he was a baby. When he was a about nine months old, he would watch Rachel Ray and imitate everything she did. He would try to kiss the tv, lol.

Now, he's into Giada and wants to make everything she's making. Last night we watched the gingerbread house competition and he called the winner in the first fifteen minutes of the program. :)

Personally, I'm all about Tyler Florence. :p

I just use bisquick, eggs, and milk, but I think I have a recipe for buttermilk pancakes. I'll go look.

Found it.

Buttermilk Pancakes

2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
2 cups of buttermilk
1/3 cup of cooking oil

Mix flour, sugar, and baking soda together. Add the other ingredients. Mix well and fry in very small amount of oil in already heated skillet or griddle.

Thank you, most appreciated.

Thank you.
I'm going to try out both recipes. I won't do a comparison, or tell you which I prefer, that would be rude. Thanks to you and Crim for your help.

Just hope I can fool the smoke detector when the oil starts getting hot.

:rolleyes: :D :rolleyes:

What station number is the food network? I'm at home all day, I'd like to give it a look, I watch a lot of cookery stuff back home.

At the moment, I'm overdosing on BBC America (most things except Benny Hill *shudder*, or League of Gentlemen, *double shudder*, or .....*gulp*..The office.....*tripple shudder*), Law and Order, Star Trek in all its forms, and whichever movie takes my attention at the time. I find it amazing that with so many channels to choose from, something like 250...there is so much of any quality to watch.

I'm not so much of a sweet tooth, however I am obsessed with images, descriptions, and even brief conversations pertaining to food. I regularly call friends up after dinner time just to ask them what they ate.

It's weird 'cause I don't really cook much, but I own several cookbooks (people know to only buy me the kind with the pictures,) have a membership to Recipezarr.com where I go to look at the amatuer photo galleries of food, and study entire menus sometimes 3 or 4 times at restaurants even when I'm not eating anything. I don't have the urge to consume, so much as to observe and hear about food.

Anyway, the Food Network used to have a program hosted by a very creative man who drove around in a van shaped like a toaster, and he would make dishes that looked like other dishes ei: spongecake that looked exactly like french fries, or a smiley egg and bacon platter that was actually some lemon custard dessert with chocolate sauce. I don't remember who he was, but I never see his show anymore. I also miss them 3 Fat Ladies. I believe they have all lost quite a bit of weight and now have their own dieting forum.

I love Southern Cooking with Paula Dean since I'm a Southern belle myself.

I also like the semi-homemade show although I've noticed she recycles the same recipes for every holiday just changes the colors. lol

I think Emeril is sexy as hell. I'd fuck him...well once anyway. lol

Wham, BAM! Thank you ma'am.

Are you catching the trek block on spike?

Spike has the most super awesome commercials during the day. I miss when I could watch spike, now life is dedicated to disney :eek:

Isn't it amazing how you can watch Law and Order at any given time over here? :rolleyes:

If it's a satellite dish, Food Network is on channel 231 on DirectTV or channel 110 on Dish Network. I don't know where it's at on Cable. :)

Mat,

Go to http://tv.yahoo.com and put in your zip code and it will give you your TV channel grid for your system.

You'll need to know your zip code & cable company.

You might have to hit "All Channels", as it defaults to a smaller set of "Favorite Channels".
