Is there a reason why we can't edit our own stories once the story is posted and approved?

So I was going through some of my older stories and I decided to try and edit them as they were full of grammar and formatting mistakes. Back when I posted them I wasn't as good at the whole writing process as I am now. I looked at how to submit a request for editing a story and it turns out I had to type out the whole story again and then write a little note for the person who approves the stories to the site in order to replace the story.

Fair enough. I did post a remastered version of the story on another site. So I got that story, copy and pasted it, formatted it and submitted it again. It went through, replacing it as expected. Great, wonderful. But that process took almost a MONTH. I'm pretty patient and I know that there are a lot of volunteer editors who have to approve thousands upon thousands of stories.

I understand the process of getting stories approved to be first posted on the site, as if that wasn't there, this site would be filled to the brim with garbage. But why is there not a dedicated edit function for stories once posted?

I complain about this, mainly because I tried that again with another story. Dignity Dash: Session 1.

Now one of my biggest complaints is that you can't submit the story under the exact same name. I imagine it's so no one gets confused at stories with the same exact name on the site. But it's my story, I'm trying to replace my story with my story.

But I go through the process yet again. Maybe this next part is my fault in retrospect but I submitted the same story under Dignity Dash: Chapter 1. I didn't think anything of it and left a note saying that this was another remaster of Dignity Dash: Session 1. I wake up today to find that the story has been posted.

2 versions of the same story are now on the site. But I was expecting it to be replaced. Not only that, but I named it Session 1 for a reason. Because it was in reference to the fact that it was a board game. It wouldn't harp on it, if I wasn't looking at the prospect of ANOTHER MONTH OR SO OF WAITING FOR THIS ERROR TO BE FIXED.

And the cherry on top, as I'm writing this post, I realize that the ability to format the text with bold and italics is much easier than in the actual story editor itself. So couple all that effort in formatting, previewing the story, re-reading it from top to bottom to make sure that I didn't make mistakes in formatting and grammar or spelling mistakes. Only to realize WEEKS after hitting submit that I made a tiny little mistake, is galling.

I know now what I did wrong. I probably should've just wrote in parentheses, "remastered", to cut down on the confusion. But the question still remains. Why can't we do that part ourselves? Is this an upcoming feature or is there a necessity to jumping through all these hoops?

The simple reason is the the site owners want controll of all material posted to the site. It ALL gets reviewed to ensure it meets the requirements the site has set forth. Allowing authors to self edit would allow people to post stories that comply, and then go back after they've been approved and replace it with something that doesn't.

The first stages of testing for a much simpler point-n-click editing system are in progress via the story games, though. Versioning should logically include a comparison tool that will allow Laurel to much more quickly jump to any changes made, thus speeding up review of edits.

They would still have low priority. She would just get through more of them with more piece of mind that she didn't miss something when she did find time to do them.

I have submitted an edit to my first story about two days after it was published on or about 2/7/25. I have submitted an edited version of that same story several times and still has not been updated. The latest version was submitted 2/24/25; https://www.literotica.com/my/#/works/edit/3871431
How long does it take for an updated edit to be posted?

Expect to wait at least two or three weeks. Edits are low priority for the site. You need to submit the best quality copy you can, first time.

The two corrections I have submitted both took over a month to be approved. Every time you resubmit, you go to the back of the line and start your wait over.
