Cancer is an unwelcome tragedy for many. Writing a story about a character who is relieved to be told he has cancer and a limited time to live, and uses that remaining time wisely gets shouted down and hated. "That disrespects my fragile subjective hysterical feelings! My mother died of cancer, so you can't ever imply there could be anything good about it!"
If the content of a story is not to your taste, don't read it.

Legality has nothing whatsoever to do with morality.
There are factually 11 year olds capable of giving informed consent,
and 55 year olds who are so emotionally immature, they are not capable.
I am a victim of child molestation, and yet somehow it doesn't destroy me that many

At a minimum, as adults, surely we can discern between fact and fiction?
