As I keep lucky enough to still wake and share another day....the list of those who've gone on grows. This time of year makes me reflect. And look forward.

Not being morose, but instead celebrating. And leaving a bit of a tribute.

Please feel free to add your own.....

He didn't pass this year.....it was many ago. But not an end of the year and this reflection go by, that I don't think of and miss Grandpa. His wisdom, humor and wit. Knowing how important it was to pass on what he'd learned, and seeing in me the worth of it. Thanks Harry. I'm old enough now to call you that. You keep those Beagles running the bunnies....I'll be there when the time is right.

Jack Anderson. Journalist. Died this week. He wasn't Mr. Murrow....but born and raised in that tradition.

Richard Prior.....good lord. I soooo hated his flaggerent use of the "N" word in his routines. Educated, middle class Blacks did as well. It reminded me of the racial bigotry I was raised in. And to them the life they'd managed to escape. Richard woulda' said "uppitidy nigers". That was Mr. Prior. RIP.....

My Grandpa.

For so long, I was so scared of him. He was this booming voice down the telephone twice a year wanting to know things that had nothing to do with who I was, like did i like my school teacher, what did i want for christmas. But then I finally got to meet him 13 years ago and then every 2 years after and over time he became this sweet, sweet gentle man who smiled at me although near the end he couldn't even remember me, and was so naughty he wouldn't eat his dinner but would finish off 3 icecreams in a sitting. Who remembered, even though he couldn't remember who's child I was, that he had named me and would ask me over and over and over..."do you know who named you?" as though to make sure if nothing, I would never forget this about him.
He died on New Year's Day, 1st January 2005.
All my love, grandpa, hope you got the box of magnums i send you every month.

My husband, Oct 2, 2004. A very loving and talented man, a great Dad to his children and my best friend. He's somewhere playing his guitar waiting for me  :rose:

The State of Wisconsin, USA has a rich, if checkered history. In all aspects of life, but especially politics. Waukesha County is not only known for being a bastion of the John Birch Society. It was a crucial stop in the "underground railroad", sheltering and sending on many blacks to Canada to escape slavery.

Milwaukee County elected the nations first openly socialist Mayor and was a hotbed in the movement for the 8 hour day, but also had an open and influential Bund Association during WWII. Nazi's.

A strange dialectic for sure. In here have been some of the best, brightest and forward looking minds our nation has ever seen. We lost 2 this year.

Gaylord Nelson died July 3, 2005. Founded "Earth Day" in 1970.

William "Bill" Proxmire. Retired US Senator. Never took a dime from special interests and kept winning. You didn't want one of his "Golden Fleese Awards".
With Washington the way it is now....it's probably better his dementia didn't allow him to know.
