Incest is popular because it is STILL taboo. If you go back to the late '60s/early '70s people were writing slash fanfiction because male homosexuality was still largely taboo. Taboo from 1980 (a porn family about incest) used the term taboo because 1: incest was taboo and 2: calling it incest would be a problem. Now, unlike gay sex, incest has continued to be largely taboo and so people want to read incest stories.

Maybe erotica is the best medium for this sort of thing because it's so easy to edit it for yourself. I already told you about my little find and replace trick to turn blood into step, you blood lovers could do the exact same thing to turn step into blood.

And if any writer is offended about me editing their stories for my own personal benefit, I'm not going to try to reupload them back up here or anywhere else as the proper version of your story, I'll just have my own little version tucked away on my hard drive just for me to read. …and I've never wanted to have sex with my sister. It's a fantasy that some people (including myself) find titillating. But only in the abstract. I would say men are the majority readers there, but there are female fans of taboo. There are women out there who thought of their brothers, their fathers, just as men have thought of their sisters and moms. Thought is where 99.9 percent of people draw the line.

I largely view the category as a challenge one: can one write a story where the relationship makes sense in a real-world sort of way. I think the author does his or her job well if the reader goes into the story knowing how wrong such a relationship would be, but ends the story rooting for the relationship to work out. It made for a fun couple of stories to write, and I enjoyed doing so.
