Something to think about today

Denae, I understand where you're coming from. I went through the same thing when I was 12 with a grandmother that I had to live with for a few years....I'll keep you in my thoughts. :rose:

Didn't mean to intrude in the middle of a conversation, but I truly understand how it can feel in this situation. Sometimes it helps to know you aren't the only one that feels that way.

That's what I say too WyldBreeze, there is strength in numbers and it does help to know that you're not the only one.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. :rose:

I've only started talking about it the past few months.....I finally realized that while I was trying to keep everything under control, it was really controlling me even though its been over for years. It's funny how one little moment can make you open your eyes to what you thought life was. That's why I cherish the small things in life.... ;)

Hi to all my friends here at Lit.

As some of you know I mentioned last week that I was going to participate in the local Walk to End Domestic Violence in the city where I live.

Some of you asked about donating to/supporting my walk. Thinking of how to make this a safe donation for you to give to me and for me to receive from you, I think I may have a better solution.

Domestic violence is a national issue.

I urge each of you who wanted to help "me" to help those where you live.

Make a donation to your local women's shelter or a support group. Contact your representatives and ask how you can support, what you can do to support them in changing existing legislation to make it stronger. Do what you can on a local level.

There are so many things you can do to help your neighbors!

Thank you everyone for wanting to support a cause of which I am so passionate about.

:rose: Den

Denae that is a wonderful idea. I am just as passionate about domestic violence/child abuse, as I am a survivor of both. I plan to call the DA hotline here in Ohio tomorrow, and ask what I can do to help.

I encourage everyone to do the same

Bless you Denae for such a wonderful cause. And an equally unselfish attitude about how others can help.

I hope this gives everyone something to think about for the days and weeks to come.

For those of you that know me, you know I am a life junkie. I live life to the fullest and get the most out of each day's experiences. I regularly sacrifice sleep for things I want to do and I am always bulling my way ahead to the next thing on my list.

A dear, dear friend has been counseling me for some time on the need to slow down and enjoy more of what I experience. To reflect, to savor the moments and apreciate how truly special they are.

I was reminded of this sage advice when I came across the following quote...

The ultimate goal of a more effective and efficient life is to provide you with enough time to enjoy some of it.

Along this same line of thought, this quote is wonderful and made me think of you, DC. :rose:

Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your
shoes, and dance. - Oprah Winfrey

May we all enjoy each day and dance....

Thanks JG,

Any quote that makes you think of me, must a great quote :)

And yes, I wish everyone enjoyed life and got to dance as often as I do. I am blessed in so many ways. And blessed to have friends like you.

I agree - any quote that makes me think of you is a great one. :)

Along the lines of slowing down and enjoying life as you previously mentioned, I was thinking a little more about this quote. I think that the dance has to not just be another item on the to-do list - it has to be a way to enjoy our days... that makes all the difference, I think.

I'm blessed to have you as a friend as well, dc. Safe travels to you... and many kisses.

Awww you're so cute. Thank you my sweet.

So much of this is about our atittudes and how we choose to live life and each day. It is amazing how easy it is to make a choice to be happy. And how much of an impact you can have on those around you just by saying hello and smiling at a stranger.

I apreciate your friendship too my dear. And keep those kisses coming!

Very true, DC. That's why the quote in my signature line rings so true. If people really understood the poewr they have to change their lives by changing their thinking, there would be no stopping any of us...

(some more kisses for you, wise man     )

one of my favorites

Nelson Mandela, in his inaugural speech as President of South Africa in 1994 said,

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
handsome, talented and fabulous?’
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. T
here is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that
other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.”

Wow. That was awesome.

As crazy and messed-up as this world is, it is a good sign that Nelson Mandela is living to a ripe, old age and is the elder statesman on this planet.

You need only claim the event of your life to make yourself yours. When you truly possess all you have been and done, which may take some time, you are fierce with reality. - Florida Scott-Maxwell

When you hear 'Bruce Lee' the first thing that comes to mind for most is the high-kicking, power-punching martial-artist who died young.

Ok, that's fun to watch, but the true beauty of Bruce Lee's life was philosophy towards fighting systems and life in general. It's easy to forget that he was a philosophy major at the University of Washington. (Although apparently he wasn't a stellar student. Oops.)

His 'system', Jeet Kune Do, is sometimes erroneously seen as a 'do-all' fighting system. Actually it's not. JKD is more a different way of looking at confrontations, and life in general.

Just a few things he said. If only he didn't die so young...

Art is never decoration, embellishment; instead, it is work of enlightenment. Art, in other words, is a technique for acquiring liberty.

The aims of art is to project an inner vision into the world, to state in aesthetic creation the deepest psychic and personal experiences of a human being. It is to enable those experiences to be intelligible and generally recognized within the total framework of an ideal world.

Jeet Kune Do, ultimately, is not a matter of petty technique but of highly developed personal spirituality and physique. It is not a question of developing what has already been developed but of recovering what has been left behind. These things have been with us, in us, all the time and have never been lost or distorted except by our misguided manipulation of them. Jeet Kune Do is not a matter of technology but of spiritual insight and training.

one of my favorite quotes is by bruce lee...love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.
he was so cool

He was so fucking amazing! And not in the one-inch punch sense. The way he viewed the world was so beautiful; the truely appreciate ALL facets of life, always living in the moment... I wonder sometimes what he could have become if he hadn't died so young...

Woke up with a song in my head and thought I would see if anyone here knows where this comes from...

Sometimes in my bed at night
I curse the dark and I pray for the light
and sometimes the lights no consolation
blinded by a memory.

Just something to think about... :)

Tieniman Square

Ah, probably haven't heard THAT in a looooooooooooooong time, which is sad considering it was the most amazing moment of protest in history. You want proof the internet moves mountains? It if weren't for faxes and the 'Net, the world wouldn't know a thing about it.

The lasting image everyone has is of one lone guy, two grocery bags in hand, stopping a tank, and the tank TRYING to get around this guy, but the man never EVER giving ground.

Why bring this up, besides the fact this is one of the most powerful images of the 20th century? No one knows who this guy is.

Seriously. A few years ago there were articles thrown around talking about the anniversary of the protest. Naturally THE GUY comes up... and the fact to this day no one has any idea who he is. The amazing thing is that it's not just the goverment covering-up something. Even students who survived all do not hav a clue to who he is... or aren't willing to say. Rumors persist of what happened to the brave soul. All anyone knows for certain is he was finally pulled away by a few folks and escaped.

The other big questoins, which people forget to think about is the tank driver. Think about this; here's a solderi, professional guy, he has ORDERS to go to the square. His CO is SCREAMING into his radio 'JUST RUN THE FUCKER OVER'. But he DOESN'T. He tries his best to go AROUND this guy, when he just as easily could have crushed him. Whether it was the CREWS idea, or just the driver, no one knows... and once again, no one is aying.

This is much easier to cover-up, since the goverment could easily 'transfer' the driver/crew for who-knows-where.

Just the same, for me, this is a story that is dying to be told (and yes, as a budding writer it's popped into my head a few times. hehehehehehhehe.) of what happened to these people who by acciddent became part of history.

Maybe it's better NOT to know... to add to the legend. Personally? I'm hoping both parties met somewhere, and hopefully they've found a bit of peace...

People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life.
I don't think that's what we're really seeking.
I think that what we're really seeking is an experience of being alive,
so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have
resonances within our innermost being and reality,
so that we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.

Joseph Campbell
