The 2025 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

I have one I’m working on that would probably fit. I’d intended to publish sooner, but I think I’ll hold it back for this.

I'm hoping to enter a four-story series for this. Which might sound impressive and all, but I'd intended to have the series finished by 2023.

I'm pretty sure I'll get it done for this!

and I wonder if I can just write a second chapter for adventure of my geeks in space.
Okay, never mind. I remember overall plot of a story, and how I planned to continue it back when it was written. But now I can’t finish rereading it (to remember specific details) because of how cringe the story is. I mean, it’s merely 5k words, but reading it hurts me physically. And I’m supposed to pick it up and keep going, while doing all the characters justice!

Not much Geekier than playing D&D in costume at a gaming convention, right? Especially if you're a guy that plays a female warrior...
I mean, what could happen? 🤭

You'll have to wait for May to find out.

... The biggest difference was my long red hair. But then, I wasn’t Xena; I was Thalia, the barbarian/fighter princess I’d played on countless D&D campaigns with my online group for the past five years. The six of us had agreed to meet in Austin for Tex Con, a small startup gaming convention that cropped up when Pax South got canceled a few years ago.

It was actually a rebirth of sorts. My grandfather and his D&D group had actually won a tournament back in the 80s at the original Tex Con. He had this silly, cheap certificate hanging on the wall of his man cave. "The Greater Demon Extermination Company had yada yada yada, and emerged gloriously triumphant,” or something like that.

  • Geek - An enthusiast of a particular topic or field. Geeks are “collection” oriented, gathering facts and mementos related to their subject of interest. They are obsessed with the newest, coolest, trendiest things that their subject has to offer.
  • Nerd - A studious intellectual, although again of a particular topic or field. Nerds are “achievement” oriented, and focus their efforts on acquiring knowledge and skill over trivia and memorabilia.
Hmm. I just finished a very short story that I intend to submit for this category. It is the life and times of a queen honeybee, and if you don’t know anything about honeybees you will learn a surprising amount of real information. I assume it counts?
The limited amount of sex is violent and deadly.
Would anyone like to beta read it and give me feedback?

LOL Why not! The more varied and unusual the better!!!!! I have to say, mine is pretty violent, altho not deadly :)

I have about forty different story ideas that I could do something with. None of them are particularly geeky or even nerdy, though. That really surprises me given how much of a geek I think I am.
My only geek specific story idea is about a collectible trading card game where when someone decides to play images of parts of their bodies are created into cards and magically added into the game. If you collect a complete set of someone’s bits something good happens. You get more cards by doing something sexual with other players. You can trade cards without sex, too, though.
It seems to have promise, but it also seems like it would be a lot of work to figure out the details.

I'm still considering what to do for this challenge, one idea is a romantic nostalgia piece about a goth chick working at Blockbuster Video in the 1990s who falls for a nerdy guy who is a regular...

But I don't actually have any personal memories of Blockbuster, only second-hand nostalgia 😭

Anyone want to give me a hand as a subject-matter expert, if I end up writing this one? 😁

Imagine one who’s driven to Blockbuster, can’t find their movie, is told all its copies are out for rent. Then, wanting to watch the movie so bad, they hover at the return bin for someone to finally return a copy of a movie.

Then after watching the VHS on one’s VCR, being reminded to be “be kind, rewind” the VHS to be courteous for the next person.

What a time!

I enjoy these fabled tales of the past LOL

LOL. Just do it!

There's sometimes too much overthinking about whats geeky, but trading cards? Why not.

I’ve decided if I don’t bother to figure out the rules in advance I’ll be fine. I’ve already got it started.

Does anyone want to work on a shared universe chain story with me?

The Geek Pride announcement will go up on Monday April 21!

Geek Day and the stories are targeted for May 25th, so just over a month to get your stories done and ready.

I realize that I am extremely late, even considering starting to write a story for this, but there is something so fitting about the ‘medical geek’ in me that spurs me on.

I don’t know if it will fit or be accepted but why not, I have about a month to give it a try.

Ya’ll pray for this old woman with a kinky mind

Ahhhh, the lies we tell ourselves...
And Geek Day is coming fast.......
Tooo fast, it turns out. I'll have to shelve this yet again for another year. I feel badly; I was so optimistic. But I just cannot figure out how to nail the sexual landing on this one.

I think it's a little too cerebral, sadly. I'll keep on pluggin'.

Hang in there! I was hoping to have a couple of stories done, but the second one is NOT going to happen this year. I decided to take my Terry Pratchett fanfic and pull all the PTerry out of the story leaving me with my original tale. Then all I would have to do is build an entirely new universe to house the story, and find an excuse to have a talking dog. This is going to take a while...

*cough* Ancient Relic here, I *was* a young goth chick in the 90s (although I didn’t work at Blockbusters 😝) - wanna collab some more?
