The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

It's all in the mind though, isn't it? If someone prepares a meal and it tastes delicious, they are complimented. When they tell you it was made with dog meat, everyone is appalled, even though it was a great dish. But if the menu had said it was dog meat, nobody would have chosen it. We are all victims of our cultural upbringing, naturally.
They eat frogs over here, you know :ROFLMAO:
We run into the same thing with venison. Some people can't get over it. I like to remind people it's free range, hormone free, all natural. So what if it was killed by a truck?

Honestly, I find food history really interesting. Some things we eat it a miracle we even figured it out. How did natives figure out nixtamalization, to makes niacin, to solve a dietary deficiency long before we even knew what niacin was???
So fascinating to think about. "Soak the corn in ashes, otherwise you'll get sick...".

I'm really so sorry! You have my deepest sympathy!

I have been in situations with my family where I have had to go low/no contact. It's hard for me because, as the oldest, I was raised to be the caretaker. I reached a breaking point and just disassociated from them.
Can relate. Burn out is real.
I decided that Self-care and boundaries are needed for me. That included some time away from family.

I hope @AlexAtNight find whatever tools and support he needs to navigate the waters he is in presently. Everyone needs a lifeboat, but the people and tools differ from person to person. 🫂

They do too in some of the towns in NJ. Probably most of the ones on that video in NJ of the most hillbilly towns.

And turtle and squirrels and rabbits… I’ve heard of people eating doves.
Welcome to my world growing up. We hunted Wabbits and squirrels, and yes dove. Dove breast (it’s really the only thing you can eat) over rice with gravy. Hmmm mmmm….

The best part is when you have a big dove shoot. Got some Ol’ boy cook’n a pig and there is alwasy libations…if it’s upper class shoot, it’s bourbon, if it’s a lower class shoot, cheap beer! Basically surround the field on opening day,, and when the first bird shows up, it sounds like free-fire day in Basic Training! Whoever runs the fastest claims the bird…there’s usually at least four people who swear they shot it! 🤣

Lots of people main source of protein are bugs

And what do people think shrimp and lobster are !!?!?!?!?!

Water bugs? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Speaking of water…may have found the next fishing vessel. It’s one of those deals that’s almost too good to be true. An old River Ox skiff, with a new Yamaha 30 horse 4-stroke. Outfitted with Garmin ‘Lectronics and stick pole.

The history of the Sea Ox and River Ox, from what I’ve researched is they were made by a couple of manufacturers in NC and maybe SC. The government commissioned them to give to low income commercial fisherman and new immigrants who were commercial fishing. This one by all appearances looks to be gently used. Best we could tell the hull number had a ‘76 on it! 😮. That’s usually a no-go for me but…Need to talk to the owner…see what the story is on it…

Getting some work done on the current boat…which is just a glorified fishing kayak, but it’s got a trolling motor. if this 70d WX holds…we’re wett’n worms tomorrow!

Get a jump on yer weekend! How bout our gal winning Gold in the figure skating competition and our gals in Hockey!

One of my mom was alive, SSA, was super hit or miss. I was on hold on that number for something like four hours once.

We have better luck going to our local office. They mostly require you to make an appointment online, but if you can’t do that, I would suggest going on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Sometimes the weight was a short as 30 minutes, but typically about two hours, but you could talk to someone live in in person.

That was my experience anyway.
I gave up after 3 hours.
When I went to the office one of the security guards went through all the contact options and re-listened to the story. Login.gov can't verify my phone number is mine. Login.gov referred me to SSA. So he said there was this other woman waiting to speak with a manager. That manager never made eye contact and walked by where we were waiting for 2 hours or so before I gave up. It was worse than unemployment except it was a woman not a black guy dressed as a woman.
I just want to see my report. I feel it has not changed since I pulled it in 2023 when I got laid off. So I am not in a rush. Hence when I get around to it snail mail.
The politics of it all were revealed when I went into the office. We may not have a problem with SSA. The servicing funds look to be heavily abused. So abused legitimate payers are unable to make contact. I also found it frustrating that all of the people that were visible employees could be described as adverse typical "government employees" people complain about.

I don't think I could eat horse. I know I couldn't eat dog or cat.
I watched a few minutes as someone cleaned a coyote. Maybe not even a few minutes. Seconds.
I have heard bear fat and tallow is very good. Specially if taken while they are on a diet heavy in berries. I also heard cleaning a bear is a lot like cleaning a human, so that too I will never know.

I didn't care for the frogs or snails. The frog legs were too much work. The snails I tried a second time as the first they were swimming in oil. The second try was as bad as the first for my pallet.
Caviar too. I just didn't like it. Like a fishy salty sardine.
But sushi with eggs on it, I can eat that more than my wallet will afford.

I can’t be doing with fiddly food, I like a good mouthful ( of food - behave ! )

Turtle soup I had when I was in Jersey. Was it really turtle? Hmmmm Where did they get the turtle?
Squirrel, Rabbit and dove... I grew up in SC. Those were the first critters I learned to shoot. My parents were 2nd gen American's from upstate NY. If you killed it you ate it was the rule. Squirrels quickly became an exception. I didn't kill many rabbit and was not fond of eating them. Dad and I trapped those that were eating what we were growing in the garden. All these years later if I had some place to actually hunt rabbit I think I could find a way to get enough garlic and onion in a stew to make rabbit edible. Dock Streets I mentioned in Philly had rabbit on the menu. The leg/thighs were served with root veg's and risotto. Had that more than once. I preferred their quail. And dove I hunted every year from 11 to 27. Brined in Speidie sauce and grilled each bird is two bites. Not to mention how much fun the hunt is. I only ever shot at quail. They were safe from my skill level. haha

Save for one online assumption, I have been able to get most of my SSA info on their website. I did have to go to their office twice for a fuck-up. Go early, before they open, queue up, and the two clerks I have had were helpful and pleasant. One of the best US gummint agencies I have dealt with, if not the best.
What year was that? Now there is an online requirement to verify yourself with Login.gov or a third party paid service ID.me.
I am not going to trust id.me anymore that I would lifelock with my personal information. In the research I have done the login.gov uses the credit reporting agencies to verify your phone number. I have only revealed my IP phone number. My mobile number is not associated with my identity in any way so far. Not credit finance health anything. I can't even qualify for the discounts at the grocery store because they ask for a mobile number. Sorry can't have it.

Bear is sort of greasy. Makes great chili, or spaghetti sauce. Basically anything where the grease works well with the cuisine.
