Alarm bells went off as soon as she hung up the phone. What the hell am I supposed to tell Lance? It wasn't like they were exclusive, how could they be when he was married to her mother? They'd been in the office most of the morning together and he hadn't even mentioned the prospect of her going on a date. As the minutes ticked away, Carmen came to the conclusion that she was being silly. As possessive as he seemed Lance didn't seem like the type to be easily threatened. Especially by a dorky accountant.
But still she couldn't bring herself to tell him to his face, instead she left a note on his desk. ..
Satisfied, Carmen tucked her phone in her wristlet and headed out the backdoor. Because it was closer, not so she could avoid bumping into her step-dad. When she got to the diner, she started to give Lorenzo a call to see if he'd gotten there yet. But then she saw him in the window as she climbed the ramp, looking a little twitchy in his three piece suit. That made her glance down at her own outfit and frown. Twice he'd seen her in less than her best but there was nothing she could do about it now, so she pulled the door open, put a smile on her face and stepped inside.
"He's over there, "she said to the hostess when she asked how many and found herself grinning as Lorenzo unfolded himself from the booth. He had a handsome smile and his nervous shuffle made her giggle a little as she stepped into his half hug. He smells almost as good as Lance. She kept that to herself though as she slid into the booth across from him.
"Hey, you look - wow!"
"Awww you're sweet but I feel terribly undressed sitting across from you," she said with a smirk as he slipped out of his jacket to reveal a shirt that was snug on his broad shoulders. "That doesn't help but thanks," she added with a broad smile and sipped her water.
"Glad you could get away from the office."
"Thanks for giving me a reason. My step-dad's cool but it's loud as hell and smells like grease and burned metal. I'm told I'll get used to it," she said with a shrug as the waiter came to take their order.
Once that was done, they fell into easy conversation. The longer they talked the more relaxed he became. They talked about music mostly and he filled her in on the cool places to hang out. He complained about his roommates but she won that battle reminding him she lived with newlyweds. Of course she didn't mention the fact that she was fucking the husband but she figured that wasn't proper first date conversations. By the time the food came, it might have looked like they'd known each other for years the way they laughed together.
