It is the bitter dark I am so crazy about. It makes even my reasonably healthly stomach sick if I eat more then a few bites.

I love dark chocolate.

I'm trying to read all the back posts on this thread. What a great idea--an online support group for personal health management.

3 years ago, I was finally at a weight I felt good at. I had been on an elimination diet for 18 months to help decrease the symptoms of food allergies. I tell you--cutting out dairy products and eggs was one of the best things I did. I read labels and anything with milk I put right back on the grocery shelf. I ate more fruit, nuts, whole grains and vegetables. My downfall came when I began to work in the allergans again. I started little by little eating dairy products but this led to cookies, cake, candy, ice cream, more coffee (which I have to have milk with)...and all the weight I had managed to lose came back. I also had a knee injury about 8 months ago which curtailed the walking and running I had built up to. :(

Reading some of the posts on here has helped me firm my resolve to proactively manage my weight and health again.

Thank you for starting this thread. I'll be back regularly to read and post, too.

I'm practicing with a play partner. I posted my "bottom" experience with caning here in response to BiBunny.

/hijack and back on topic...

Haven't posted my goals, etc. yet.

I am currently at 175.5 pounds. I want to lose 30 pounds, in part because I like being a little thinner (but still with curves), but also for health reasons. At my current weight, except for days when I do really intense aerobic exercise, my blood pressure goes up to borderline high. A 30 lb loss would also put me in the middle of my "ideal" weight, and BMI is becoming more important for insurance. I am experiencing a lot of problems with my bad ankle which would also be ameliorated with weight loss.

I like exercise - because i am at such high risk for osteoporosis, weight lifting exercise is extremely important for me. Also, I just feel better when I exercise and eat right.
I just don't do either when I have a lot of work. I am hoping that this thread will make me more consistent - do a combination of aerobics, weight training and streching, including yoga. I also walk a lot rather than driving or taking public transport (I am very grateful I live in a "walking city!") I am most likely to do it once I establish the habit of exercising right after my morning meditation (btw, the beach body videos that you see i the infomercials really are good). I am NOT good at doing the "gym thing."

My diet downfall is probably wine, even if only had with dinner. It has sugar and so makes me crave sweets. I like vegies, always have, even as a kid. I also like whole grains (although I will never be able to bring myself to eating brown rice with Japanes, Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese or Thai quisine, LOL). My other downfall, as GraceAnne just pointed out on this thread is butter and salt. Am working to reduce my calorie intake to about 1350 per day initially.

I am also going to start chinese medical treatment for thyroid after I get back from moving my sister cross country - in about 2 weeks...

Thanks to you, Hottie Momma, for starting this thread. It's nice having to report in!

THYROID: In my early 40's developed a thyroid condition that went undiagnosed for many years. At the same time was going through very difficult times with the woman who is now my ex, which compounded the problem because I overate. During that time, exercised a lot but couldn't lose weight - would gain when I got sick and couldn't exercise. Ended up at 213 pounds and was beginning to experience health problems because of it - joint difficulties, borderline high blood pressure, good overall cholesterol but bad LDL/HDL ratio, etc.

Finally got my hypothyroid diagnosed almost 2 years ago - went on meds for a short time and lost 20 pounds really quickly (2 months) then another 30 over the next year or so. Then I stopped losing. In January, decided to up my exercise to 1.5 to 2 hours per day (part of an interdepartmental workplace contest) - didn't lose a pound! I know that some of it was gained muscle but I should have lost something after 4 months.

Got very discouraged and then moved into a heavy work period where the only exercise I was getting was my normal walking to work, etc. and I wasn't eating well due to work demands. Started to gain weight again - have now put on 10 pounds. Part of it may be my thyroid acting up again.

*sigh* Chocolate is a definite trigger food for me. Once I eat a little, I want more and more.

neonflux, a walking city?

San Francisco! :cathappy: (I'm not so much that way with chocolate as with things like potato chips...)

i walked about three miles on the beach today and got whistled at, winked at and smiled at by the guys i passed. the walkig was good for my body, the attention from the guys, while uninvited, was good for my self esteem.

Potato chips/anything salty is one of my huge downfalls. i really only crave chocolate during PMS.

Going out for Chinese with the family tonight. MUST AVOID RICE!!!!!!! MUST AVOID RICE!!! In all honesty though, i will probably have a small serving because i just love it, especially fried rice.

Tomorrow is official weigh-in day, and i SO want to skip it.

Hottie: Don't skip it! You might be surprised in a good way and wouldn't that just be a shame that you never really found out.

I really don't get the whole rice is yummy thing. Hmm...guess I'm missing out.

I love rice, too. I like what Zen Buddhists suggest about cravings - take a small amount of what you crave, in order to control a desire and avoid having it become an obsession.

Unfortunately, when it comes to wheat, that doesn't apply to me, LOL. (I've read that you crave most those foods that you are allergic to/intolerant of - body doesn't do well with gluten.)

Well, that would explain why I crave chocolate like I do. *sigh*

Well my day's starting well. I didn't drink slimfast, cause we went out for brunch. I seriously doubt I'll be able to eat the rest of the day cause I WAY overate. I'm working on my second glass of iced tea.

Oh, that reminds me. :nana: They make cold brew DECAFFINATED iced tea now. :nana: That should help me keep hydrated, since I'm an iced tea addict. Plus, it should help with my oldest daughter. I noticed she drinks almost as much iced tea as I do. And she has trouble sleeping. Coincidence? I think not. I've told her no caffiene after 3 pm from now on. This way she can keep drinking the tea. :D

I like to follow my cravings but just not overdo. I like to think I crave what I need in some ways. My daughter is learning about this since she became a vegetarian. She has totally different cravings than she used to. It's interesting.
