Patrick O'Halloran
This one thing had kept him sane over the years and preventing him from succumbing to numbness of day to day existence and nostalgia. If there was one thing in the world that was worth prolonging that suffering it was the promise of this delayed kiss finaly made real and fulfilled. It had been as much a promise to Nell as it had been to himself, only he had had no idea back then of the fate awaiting them.
Now nothing existed apart from the two of them up in Nell's room, kneeling on the floor, embraced tightly and kissing as if to make up for all the time lost on waiting, pain and separation. On her lips he could taste the salt of her tears: those of frustration and those of joy but the fact that he was able to finally kiss Nell pried all confusion away from his mind. The sense of guilt remained however, although slightly dulled by the sensation now.
Patrick was holding Nell close, his arms around her back as hers were around him, pulling strongly, holding tightly as if to never let go, at least for the time when their lips were dancing together, trying to bridge the gap that had been torn between them in the meantime. He felt her small hands pressing into him through the jacket, making sure he wasn't moving too far away, stilling him as he shivered from anticipation and delight.
As they parted he licked his lips, his nose still filled with her scents, he waited for her to open her eyes, sparkling in the dark room with a new light. "It was worth the wait," he said. "But I wish I had stolen this kiss much earlier, Nellie. I wish I hand't had to wait," he whispered breathlessly and hugged her again, kissing her neck once and just holding her, hoping he could control himself and not give in to emotions and break into a weep.
