Through the Looking Glass

Aha. Take on me.

The original version is fun and pop and makes me smile and sing along and has for forty years or so.

But there is also an unplugged version which is emotional and powerful and brilliant. I'm still floored the same song can do that.

I don't know how to link videos - sorry, but if anyone else wants to and blame me for it, I thank you in advance.

Unplugged ...

Wait until your teenagers start singing it! 😁

Thank you all for your understanding and grace. Things in my life needed attention and I chose to step away for a few days unintentionally leaving y'all without prompts.

Seeing everyone post brings me joy and I am so grateful that this is a space that is bringing gratitude and self reflection for others.
Here are the prompts for yesterday and today. I look forward to sharing my responses and reading each of yours.

7th, spent all day cleaning the house (long overdue) in anticipation of my uncle spending the night. got to spend some time with him and go out for a nice dinner of steak fajitas and frozen margaritas.

8th, my favorite memories growing up are of road trips to south texas for thanksgiving with all my aunts and uncles and cousins...filled with laughs, family, food, football, and bonfires (i might be a little bit pyro)...when my grandmother passed away we stopped making the trip yearly and now that everyone is older we no longer do it, but those memories will last forever.

Day 7.
Me and my daughter went out and collected fall leaves today that we later glued on papers, that we painted and made art with.
It was wonderful and magical.

Day 8.
Being a young teen biking around my neighbourhood in Sweden, in the wind and the rain, feeling alive.
Fall for me will always be Sweden, it is a season that lasts for two months instead of the two weeks we get in Minnesota between summer and winter.

Day 7 - My brother's text messages. We've become a lot closer now tthat we're the only two siblings.

Day 8 - Every autumn, my mom would buy a couple of mums and we'd take them to my nannie's place. She didn't have to - it was her ex MIL - but, you'd never know it. So, every time I see mums this time of year, when Thanksgiving is near, I'm reminded of my nannie.

Day 7 - I had a professional come and clean a bunch of my house, which has been both wonderful, and inspired me to take care of other stuff I've been neglecting (depression sucks).

Day 8 -As a kid, I would often be hanging out at the park with my best friend, and we loved watching the leaves changing colors and the crispness in the air. Wonderful memories for me.

Day 7: I chat to my 20yr old son most days by phone, sometimes it feels almost perfunctory, going through the motions, but other times there's more of a connection, today was one of those days.

Day : Ireland has such mixed weather that I don't really think of things in terms of seasons.
I think one thing I do think of at this time of year is apples. Fresh, local and delicious.

7) honestly nothing good happened Thursday and I've pretty much had one of the shittiest weeks of my life but today at least the weekend started.

8) this will sound weird but in the fall I love when we get the first huge rainstorm. Leaves have been falling and covering drains and everywhere starts flooding. One of my favorite things to do is go around unclogging them. I don't mind getting messy and I love the rain. It happens every fall and I like it

Okay.... you must be from the Pacific Northwest... this sounds like Portland thinking to me... or at least, old school Portland like when I grew up there...

Day 7: I had a talk with a family member, a good talk, that led to us reconnecting and banishing a misunderstanding that has soured our relationship for years. Feels good to know i can have them back in my life, hopefully to stay. Or at least to occasionally shoot the shit with.

Day 8: As lame as it may sound, fog. For whatever reason, where i grew up, fall would bring with it thick fog that would cloak the entire city. I remember waking up and heading off to school, barely able to make out shapes around me. Watching buildings and cars and even people emerge from the mist like phantoms from out of nowhere. And the way the fog seemed to mute the sounds of fbe city i was so used to, making my home seem so eerily silent compared to the constant noise the dominated everything otherwise. Something about fog has since always been a comfort and fascination for me, despite that I've not had a good fog in nearly over a decade.

Day 6

Day 7
I flew to Texas to visit my daughter. I am here until Tuesday evening and it is so perfect. Time together to just talk and hang out together is something I cherish. We are very close and having her move halfway across the country has been really hard but I am so proud of the amazing woman she is and seeing her in her home and her new community is inspiring. 💙

Day 8
The county fair is something that always signals the beginning of fall to me. It is technically still summer when it happens in our county but it was one of the first field trips of the school year so it always marked the transition from summer to fall. Another thing that means fall is the Indian summer we have. Late September through mid October means warm days and higher temps than in the summer. Beach days are plentiful and all of the locals are trying to enjoy the incredible weather before things start to change. Having a beach day be a marker of fall may seem kind of funny but really those warm days really make me realize that soon it will be cooler and rainy and I should enjoy every last minute.

I was a landscaper and some well off cities had the policy of rake leaves to the curb for pickup, Detroit has a problem of people littering. Both cause the giant puddles you speak of and I know the satisfaction of clearing the grates. I suggest steel rake.
Hope your weeks get better

7. The good thing was a wonderful conversation with a friend. She is definitely an angel because her call was right on time and very needful. (Think Angels Among Us by Alabama).
8. Thanksgivings up here. Since we moved back up here in 1998, we always made it a family affair with her family and every one has been memorable whether the good way or the not so good way that makes me laugh.

Day 9 - Drove from Austin to Houston for my grandson's 20th birthday. We've been extremely close and his family's move to Texas was a major push for my move to TX from NY. It's different down in TX, but seeing the family when I want is a big Plus.

So special - really glad you are getting that time with her and I’m sure she’s feeling so blessed to have her momma there with her! Enjoy it and kudos to her for the big move!
