What does the music do to you?

Why do you listen to music? What does it make you feel, does it make you feel anything? Is that why you listen to different types of music? Do you listen to it for another reason?

I listen to music to help me get into a rythm when I am doing something, working on things... it helps my mind and body fire on all cylinders. But I also listen to some music because I feel like it touches my soul. Some music I listen to and it opens me up and helps to pull my emotions out from behind the walls I usually keep them locked behind. I think I would really go insane if I didn't listen to some music at times. I need it to be a part of me.

Music is a HUGE part of my life... can't go a day without it in some form. I often use it as a release for things/emotions I don't know how to express any other way. It can match my mood or I can use it to lift my mood. When I get frustrated I find it helps to crank the volume and belt out a song or two or 10... it can be very cathartic.

I've been out of the local music scene for so long and miss it desperately - but unfortunately hubby doesn't quite understand my obsession w/music.

Hubby doesn't need to understand it, as long as he encourages you to pursue it or at least doesn't stand in your way of pursuing it?

I will do the same exact thing when the day has thrown me an unhappy twist or two or many... Heck, I used to get rid of headaches by turning on and turning up the music. Crazy as it sounds, it worked!

Every night I choose the music to put me to sleep, and every morning it wakes me up. The right music helps me set the tone for the day and mellows me out on the way home after work. We really are in a golden age of music. 100 years ago, how much music could you truly get in a day? Now you could go your whole life without ever going without music!

I wish that was the case - it seems everyday is the same. He gets home from work and I have music on - either radio, CD or music choice on the TV. He complains that he can't "just sit there and listen to music."

Apparently he doesn't consider listening an activity... and he also complains in the car when I start singing along with the radio - that's when he wants to listen  apparently my voice is a turn off for him.

Maybe one could interest him in activity he could do while listening to the music? Reading magazines, the paper, um... gosh, there have to be lots of hobbies to do whilst listening.

Can you get out of the house to re-insert yourself into the local scene?

That's what my MP3 is for hehehe - but makes it difficult to sing along so he can still hear his precious TV shows, blah...

Unfortunately easier said than done - isn't much of a scene around here - I'm trying to convince him to move closer to my old hometown (Boston) but he doesn't like the city :p
That and unfortunately I can't go to most clubs because of the strobe lights :( guess I'll have to stick to downloading for now...

I use music as a background and oddly it really helps me focus on the task in hand.

I also can't stop my toes tapping and hips twitching, especially when there's that beat ;)

First thing I do when I come down stairs in the AM is turn on VH1.....I like to keep up with the *new* stuff.... ;)
During the day ....
If I'm on computer I have Napster playing or a CD.....
If I'm out by the pool I have the radio on or a CD playing....
When I'm out on my 5mi. I have my MP3 player, keeps me motivated....
When I'm driving I have radio/CD on.....
Almost every weekend hubby and I are out listening to the local bands..... :nana:
