...to get a smooth peach? Waxing? Shaving? something else? Is something more high maintnance or less? And if you go to a salon/spa how do you get comfortable with someone stripping you bare down there?
Any and all help/thoughts welcome!
Thanks in advance!:D

If you are going the waxing route, then get thee to a salon. It'll be far less painful, time consuming, etc then even trying it yourself. As for being comfortable, the estheticians are trained, and they are use to it. Very little fazes them and will often do whatever they can to make you comfortable. Most will provide a towel to cover you up except for whatever part they are working on. To be honest, it lasts 20 - 25 minutes, they chat with you, and it's over. If you're nervous, tell them, and they will do whatever they can to reassure you.

Good luck.

something else?

Doa search in this forum for "Magic" or "Magic Shave" -- at one time there was a thread a week touting "Magic Shave" depilatory. I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to be the "unofficial official depilatory of Lit" any longer, but it's because Nair and others came out with depilatories for women where Magic is marketed primarily to black men.

I can use magic for down there? I had no idea!

She's right, I am currently in school for cosmetology/aesthetics and to us its nothing embarassing so don't worry! We do our best to make it as comfortable as possible and to relax you.

As for the topic, I do think waxing is better. When I shave, I tend to get more of the bumps and razor burn but with waxing it pulls the hair from the root making it so I don't get the itchys. Other than that, I would say nair/magic shave/veet etc. work pretty well too though I feel weird about using chemicals that close to there.

Try a few different things to find what you like!

Do the search for the old threads -- most people who can use Magic anyhwere can use it "down there" -- although any depilatory is caustic and can cause chemical burns to sensitive tissues even if you can tolerate them on the tougher skin of your face and head.

Do the patch test and follow the directions precisely -- there's some horror stories about what happens when you don't back in those old threads as well as praise.

My ex used Magic down there all the time and it was always smooth - i miss that haha but yeah it works well, i've used it a few times though the only place i can find it out here is sex shops for some reason. She tried waxing one night and i think that's why we broke up... i couldn't stop laughing, and guys when she asked to "help" her wax down there DON'T - there's no easy way to remove it haha.

Magic Shave is marketed primarily to black men so it often isn't in the same location as other shaving supplies or hair care stuf but in a separate "Ethnic Hair Care" section.

Around here, Walgreens, Walmart, CVS DRugs and K-mart all carry at least some version -- usually the premixed lotion tubes.

I'm all for waxing. Like PinkStar my skin gets too irritated from daily shaving but waxing works just fine. Don't recommend a DIY job though

Ok, now i am curious what everyone prefers, guys and gals what do you like...completely smooth, a strip, a little puff at the top? what's your fave and why??

Completely shaved. I feel dirty if I have any hair there and it bothers the hell out of me. I like when I feel all smooth and soft there and most of the guys I have been with like it too.

I prefer waxing myself. I can't do the entirely bare thing because it icks me out. Shaving gives me a massive rash that's ugly and painful for weeks. I tried Veet recently, and while it works well, it was difficult for me to control where it ended up because I was moving around to get it in all the right places and ended up with more hair gone then I'd have liked. The regrowth wasn't awful either. They have one that takes about 3 minutes to do it's job. Doesn't smell horrible, doesn't burn/sting. Seems like I'm advocating for the Veet.. lol.. I still prefer waxing, lasts longest with fewest problems for me.

As for having your partner do it for you... I'm working on this particular skill with the boy. He's willing, but we are having technical difficulties finding the right product and technique for him. Makes me squirm at the prospect of not paying to have it done ever again.

i myself have been checking in to this a lot lately too - i want the hair gone, but i HATE shaving. it is sooo hard to get all the hair and manuver around in to different positions - and the stubble and bumps and ingrown hairs are just nasty. i also find that if you don't shave for another couple days the regrowth process is terribly itchy and like a prickly rash! i've always been too afraid to try things like Nair and Veet because i don't want to end up with a yeast infection from it either, so maybe waxing would be the smarter thing to do. i just haven't been able to bring myself to walk into a salon and ask for a brazillian wax and bare it all to them lol i'd probably have a heart attack! i had a good friend who went to beauty school and i was thinking about going to her because at least i knew her, but then she quit her job and now i can't go to her - figures! well, i would love to hear if anyone has had any problems with using these types of chemicals and getting infections of any kind??? i've never heard of that magic one before, but it sounds like it might be worth a try! personally i love being smooth down there, i feel less self-concious about things in that region when i can see it all myself too! don't want to be all hot and smelly or the dreaded spreading your legs and having a little tiny piece of tp stuck to your hair lol! talk about mood killers.

I shaved for a year before I finally went in for the waxing. I was nervous and felt weird, but the person was really nice made me feel real comfortable. Talked about how many other people get waxings even guys.

Now I almost find it relaxing and look forward to it.

The lady I see is very professional. I get to leave my undies on (she uses them to define the areas she's working on while she's working). Think of it like going to the gyno. The conversation is free flowing and sometimes distracting. Helps to avoid caffeine that day, drink lots of water, take some Tylenol about 30 min prior to your appointment, and wear your old comfy gitch. Any wax that gets on them or that is left behind on you washes off with water. I do NOT recommend that you go home to a nice hot bath that night (learned that lesson the hard way.. omfgowwwie!!!). Baby oil removes the residual wax and should be something your waxer offers you before you leave/get dressed (hence the old gitch ladies!!), if not take a small bottle with you (my lady uses the gel formulation).

I'm a bit of a masochist, and there's one spot that she hits that has put me close to the edge of orgasm a few times... so yeah, I look forward to it too... hehehe!!

Thanks so much for all the responses! I love knowing I am not the only one trying to get it all straight. And having so many people with experiences to share!
I think I'd like the waxing - have had underarms done and facial waxing, also been tattooed and pierced numerous times -so the pain doesn't bother me - worried about the $ though. The place here that I'd like to go to (the Screaming Peach) has various services for around $45 give or take a few dollars. Is this a reasonable price?
Also I am not sure what all the terms are and what they mean - regular bikini, full bikini, playboy, and brazillian...what is what? And then they have the rear wax which is this for guys? it says (all) next to it...doesn't something for the women alerady include that lower area?
Oy, I don't want to feel like a dumbass going in and saying I have no idea what I want...Also, how long does it take between waxings? I dunno how often I can spend 50 bucks and not begin to feel it elsewhere...
Which then leads me back to the Magic lotion - at least I know I can afford to keep it up...
Sorry if I am asking too many questions...:D

Every place is different... just ask. They are used to people who don't know asking the questions.

Brazilian is everything (including bum) - landing strip optional in some places.
Bikini is just the inner thigh.

I go every 4 wks.. have to wait until the regrowth is 1/4", which is about 3 wks for me, but I can't afford to go every 3 wks!! Hence my teaching my boy to do it. The lady I see charges about $40 for the full wax that I get done.. that's cheap in this city.

I had the opposite experience with Veet. That one took a long time and burned/irritated like a mofo!

Nair was a little better, but still resulted in irritation.

They both leave a residual smell that makes me stay far away nowadays. I could probably handle that if they were quicker and less irritating, but the residual stink is the last straw.

I bought a can of Magic powder for around $2 in the Ethnic shaving section of my local Walmart. I've been too busy and afraid to use it recently, but I'll get around to doing the patch test one of these days.

For now, I'm actually very happy with shaving everything but a patch on top that gets irritated no matter what I try (though I don't need to be bare anyway...removing everything is just more convenient sometimes). I've been thrilled with my Schick Quattro Power razor and either King of Shaves gel or Shave Secret oil for years now. I exfoliate well, do it at the end of my shower and it really only takes a couple of minutes from start-finish with no irritation whatsoever. Any itching goes away after shaving regularly for less than a month, and irritation can be warded off by applying hydrocortisone and/or lidocaine/benzocaine cream after patting the area dry.

From what I've seen, $45 for a full wax is about average and reasonable. You could call around to different places and ask what they charge to get an idea of what you should be paying.

Terminology varies, but from what I understand:
Bikini- Cleaning up the sides/bikini line

Full bikini- Probably involves cleaning up the ass too and/or taking more hair off the sides

Playboy- I'm guessing this is everything but a patch/landing strip. Sometimes this is called a Brazilian.

Brazilian- Everything (mound, labia, inner thighs, cheeks, crack hair) goes! Sometimes this is called a Full Brazilian.

The hair has to grow back to like a quarter inch before it can be waxed. I think a lot of women get waxed every 3-6 weeks, depending on what they like and can afford. After enough waxing, you'll likely have much less hair, and what is there will be very fine.

Another option is to put your waxing money into laser hair removal. It's pricey, but permanent and I've not heard a single person say they regret doing it or spending the money. For someone who likes to be waxed often, laser is likely a MUCH better deal in the long-run; at $50 a pop, you'd probably hit the waxing-laser cost break even point in 3-4 years or so (assuming 6 treatments [the usual max; it often takes fewer, especially if you don't mind having a few stray hairs] at $400 a pop vs. $50/month waxing). I think many doctors have payment plans available for cosmetic services like this, but do look at the interest rate closely if you check into it, as a bank loan or something might be a better deal.

i have an appointment on wed for a brazilion wax. as others have said the pain is minimal. being a man i take a tylenol before i go in and it feel about as harsh as a tattoo. not bad at all.

waxed is much better than shaved in my book. :D

Terminology indeed varies, so it's probably best you ask prior to your appointment. A 'normal' Brazilian usually means that they'll leave a 1 1/2- to 2- inch vertical stripe in front, deforest the lips, with an option to wax between the cheeks. The Playboy Brazilian is a narrower version of the Brazilian, leaving only a very thin stripe in front whereas the 'Full' Brazilian, or more commonly referred to as 'Hollywood Waxing', leaves everything bare. Personally, I prefer to leave the landing strip since I have a little mole on my pubis :)

A hot bath or a trip to the tanning salon immediately after you got your waxing are sooo not a good idea, believe me. Other than that I recommend buying a loofah sponge to prevent ingrown hair.

Good luck and have fun!

45$ is reasonable. It really depends on where you go, but between 30 - 50 is what you should be expected to pay for any competent place. And think of it this way... you'll be smooth for about 2 - 3 weeks, even when the hair grows back, it'll be thinner and softer.

The terminology varies. You should really ask them, and be very clear in what you want. Nothing embarrasses the estheticians, they've seen and heard it all before, and are very willing to help. And if you have no idea what you want, tell her and she'll be able to help by giving suggestions. As an esthetician friend once told me when we were talking about embarrassments and such, "I want women to feel good and beautiful about themselves in their own unique and individual way. How can I do that if I don't know what they want?"

Good luck
