Will YOU be getting snowed in? Will you be writing? Exercising?

I didn't want to call it yet another writing exercise, but tell us in your own words, 3-400 or so.

I know, no one will.

I can't get close to 400 any more.

Is this even 40?

In all probability, I will be snowed in for at least a couple days. During that time, I will be:

1. Staying warm
2. Not shoveling snow. I'll just wait until it melts by itself.
3. Preventing catching anything with a daily dose of rum and tea along with a couple shots of Jagermeister. This also qualifies as my exercise.
4. Writing my next story.

We're not getting any snow, but it's going to be too f-ing cold to go out much. Friday night/Saturday morning is a big mess for school for me. I have twenty students, each giving me an ordered list of their preferred topics. I need to find a schedule for everyone to cover two topics over the rest of the semester, no duplicates, covering everything I want to see covered and a bunch of other criteria I try to satisfy. It's kind of a nightmare. The course is relative easy after that. Once that's done, I'll spend most of the rest of the weekend reading and writing.

I'm scheduled to work all weekend, so we'll see what happens once the storm moves in.

Had that happen one year ... 2009 or so. Public Safety Dispatch. HAD to be staffed full time, all the time.

Big storm, power out for miles, no stores, no gas stations, roads closed. Nat Guard helped to get some roads open.

We took turns sleeping for a few hours at a time.

I'm due back to work Monday after three weeks off to take care of my wife, but I already told them that if we get the predicted 11" on Sunday then the other 4-5 they're calling for Monday morning I'll see them Tuesday, I live on a small street that gets plowed early afternoon if we're lucky and my days of driving like an idiot in bad conditions are over.

Even though it was 48 years ago you cannot have a storm coming without people in RI fretting over the blizzard of 78 and we weren't prepared

Bread and milk are already flying off the shelves which I never understood. Plenty of things you can live on beside that.

I have beef jerky and Jack Daniels, what else do I need?

I'm not concerned with going anywhere. Our roads might get plowed a few days later, maybe.

I have all I need and don't need to go anywhere for weeks if need be.

If power drops out and my generator kicks in, I might have a problem with propane. Waiting for a truck with another 250 gallons (close to $600, OUCH!!!), but if they don't get here by late tomorrow, I'll be making a run for 20 gallons of other gas for the small generator.

If power stays on, I have enough LP for heating for at least 2-3 weeks.

The Big Dump is due for Saturday mid day now instead of Friday overnight, so we'll see.

Yeah, I've done it multiple times. Sometimes it's just easier/safer for me to stay put and let others stay home and safe.

Other than shoveling, I'll be working. The downside to being remote. As long as there's electricity, I can work.

My husband was a baby during that and my mother-in-law would tell me so many stories about it and how neighborhoods came together to help each other, particularly helping parents with kids and the elderly get food and such during it.

I was 10 and my school was about half mile from my house so we walked.

Unlike today where just a threat of snow has schools closed, they didn't let us go until it was already a full blown blizzard with little visibility. Me and my best friend who lives across the street and his younger sister walked in a line holding hands and it took us an hour to get home and we almost walked past our street.

Nope. We had our snow event a couple of weeks ago. The airport failed, but otherwise it wasn't too bad.

I remember that. My only ever trip to Washington. We were on practically the last plane in and the first to leave.

A visit to the Smithsonian (the main objective) was impossible, and the first-ever McDonald's I visited had run out of fries*.

The best entertainment was watching farmers clear the streets as municipal vehicles got stuck.

*It's another story, but the second time I visited one, in Dublin of all places, had too.

I'm am scheduled to awaken Saturday morning with anywhere from 1 inch to 35 feet of snow, depending on which local weather carny you're listening to. I have to work Sunday regardless of how deep the snow is or how cold it is at a job that can require being outside depending on the situation. I suspect Saturday, my day off, I will get a phone call informing me that my help is needed. So... it's a shit storm no matter what.

I just got a new snowblower.

So, as everyone in my neck of the woods knows, that means it won't snow at all. I should be good to go.

In all seriousness, they're calling for over a foot (after an exceedingly cold Saturday) and the timing of the storm means I probably won't have to work on Monday. I'll spend the weekend relaxing, keeping my children occupied, writing (my current WiP is going very well), and watching football.

It should be a good baptism by fire for my new blower on Monday.

Ah... the memories! The city - the whole state - shut down for a week. The eight-inches of hard-packed snow on every side-street had tire-ruts burned almost down to the pavement.

Nowhere to put the new snow due to the two-feet we still had on the ground from the storm less than two weeks previously.

<Shudder.>

Bread, milk, and TP. Life's essentials!

You'll probably make it through.
