Okay, I've run into this policy all my life too and it annoys me as a man who just likes logic. And justice, but even so.

Why is a curvaceous but fully clothed woman considered unprofessional or erotic, but customers can come in the store and pull sweaty dollar bills out from under their boobs in a tank top and that's acceptable, if their bodies aren't that curvy

Also, why can men literally have their boobs out. Man boobs.

Sexy is in the eye of the beholder, but I would agree I'm not thinking about man boobs.

But.... a lot of these dress codes in school and worse, on the law books, is just blatant sexism combined with a very strange discrimination against women of a certain body type.

It's like men are punishing women for being attractive to them.

I can't think of a dumber way to shoot ourselves in the foot as a man, and it is policies like this that make me seriously think we should try all women governments for a couple generations. Just to clean out the mental garbage like that from the law.

It's the classic Madonna-Whore complex. The antiquated idea that still sticks in the collective psyche that there are women you respect, and women you fuck, and the twain shall never meet. If you're attractive, they wanna bang you, therefore you cannot be intelligent & they have an excuse to to shame/ignore you in professional settings. If you dress matronly, unattractive, or are otherwise deemed u fuckable, then you're shamed/ignored for entirely different reasons. Women can't won, it's obnoxious.

I could tell you stories from working with mostly men my whole life, that would blow your mind.

Look I'm on the spectrum so a lot of common tropes just baffle me in general about people.

Meanwhile, me in professional settings- there's plenty of people of every gender who aren't all that bright or attractive, and plenty of people that are both.

It's almost like every configuration is possible.

It's like the dumb blonde trope.

I have not observed women with blonde hair, real or artificially colored, actually behaving any less intelligently.

What I think is happening there is it gives men an excuse to be misogynistic toward women at work without it being called out as sexism.

It's similar to the Karen trope. Now there are asshole customers, I can tell you stories.

But a complaining person is not wrong to complain just because they're a woman.

A lot of these tropes and stereotypes don't make any sense to me.

Men complain all the time, it's just considered normal when they do.

Or ask for raises. Or talk politics and have their opinion respected.

This is a valid complaint.

I was never in a position of any real power but when I was a shift manager, you got hours and you got free pizzas (and you'd have gotten a raise if that decision wasn't made 3 levels of manager above my head) and all you need to do is your job.

I worked in a pretty poor area of Orlando and my crew was mostly women. They were there to work and did a great job. Chronically understaffed store, always blowing the sales forecasts out of the water. The women did the work of 2-3 men and I let them work and told them what a great job they were doing, helped when needed. You generally don't need to bark orders at people already doing a better job than you could do.

I won't comment on their fuckability but that wouldn't have been allowed anyway due to company policy about supervisors dating subordinates.

But none of that ever entered my mind. Hard work doesn't rely on being fuckable, to be frank.

I had to roll my eyes at one woman who was more concerned about her appearance. She had a laundry list of tasks she was too precious to do, and long fake fingernails, in a manual labor job. As her supervisor I needed to wash dishes, take out garbage, clean toilets, scrub floors. No clipboard and pen for me.

But as an entry level employee those tasks were too low class for her. Bothered me.

I think she got hired because she was eye candy.

Listen I like a beautiful woman but she needs to do her job at work is all I'm saying. I'd have made it clear on hire those nails wouldn't allow her to do her job.

That would be a unisex thing too, I have full love for trans / NB / cd folks, so if you have a male set of genitals and big long fake nails, that still would have been no bueno.

Sorry for the tangent. It's been a while since I've been a manager but I remember all the shitty managers I ever worked for and I just had a laundry list of things I never did as a manager, one of which was judge a worker based on how fuckable.

A theyre probably not gonna fuck you anyway
B the women who come in clutch work really hard and that hard work will save your ass

Its the difference between going home at 1am with the job well done and going home at 3am tired, exhausted, dirty, and lots of customer complaints.

Thats a big difference and the fantasy of fucking them doesn't make it better, but that may be the neurodivergence talking

All the complaints. The really sad part is, I can anticipate the outcome of the story is men were disappointing, but I run into a new way they disappointed almost every time I hear stories.

It's fascinating, I'm over 40 and I'm still learning how bad it is.
