🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

Day 5: A song you enjoy that's in a different language.
Welp... since I just posted German punk the other day, let's go in a different direction.
Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" with songs in Latin, Middle High German, and a smattering of Old French.
This one is Latin.
"In Taberna Quando Sumus" from "Carmina Burana" - Carl Orff

Catching up here ...

Day 3: A song that reminds you of one of your closest friends in life

Weirdly enough, I cannot think of a specific song that directly reminds me of my closest friend. But everytime I hear this song, I think of her brother (which makes me think of her). His band recorded an excellent version of it during the pandemic... through Zoom!

Day 4: A song that isn’t overtly religious, but feels inspirational in a spiritual sense

My go-to song for inspiration! (I think I post this at some point during each monthly challenge)

Day 5: A song you enjoy that’s in a different language

Love her music!!

Day 5: A song you enjoy that’s in a different language

Having grown up in the 80s, seeing this category immediately took me to a couple artists. One stood out among the rest and this video is worth the watch for comedic reasons. A few years later, a cult comedy movie came out called Tapeheads starring Tim Robbins and John Cusack. This video seems like something their characters from that movie would have produced. 🤣

Falco - Der Kommissar

Great song! Took me back!

Long before Swift, Nana was the most successful singer in the world. If she’d kept the glasses off as Harry Belefonte got her to do, maybe she would have turned the American market. Three year (?) run in England with her own television show. She is still(?) doing concerts at 89. She was once told she could not sing because one vocal chord doesn’t vibrate on low notes. That ended her planned opera career. Good thing. 350 million albums sold.
One of two 8 tracks my grandparents had in their car. Radio was useless.

Day 3: A song that reminds you of one of your closest friends in life

My best bud from college decided I should sing this during a karaoke night in New Orleans. I swear the DJ sped it up to fuck with me. I punctuated the last ‘rawhide’ by smashing my longneck in the corner of the bar, thereby getting us both thrown out.

Good times rollin’ with good friends.

Day 6: A song that transports you to another place and time

Smell and sound, two things tied extremely closely to memory.

I was in my mid 20's when I first tried to give up smoking and it was going well. My sense of smell was coming back. Then one day I was on the subway and I caught a whiff of a stranger walking by - she was wearing a strawberry perfume, the same one my ex always used.

In a flash, I was back in her room, that almost sickeningly sweet fragrance overpowering my senses and Savage Garden playing in the background. The surge of emotions welling up as if I was right there, breaking up. Puppy love, gone. We were just kids, didn't know how to deal with feelings like that.

It was years later, but I hurt all over again. Bought another pack, kept on smoking.
Am free of it now though ☺️

Savage Garden - Santa Monica

Day 6: A song that transports you to another place and time

I listen to this song to transport me to the year 2002. Also I go to 3:09 and listen from that point on more than the whole song.

(Edited to add the longer version of this song. Should have watched the video.)

PDA - Interpol
