1- How many new Lit stories do you read/day/month/year? And 2- what is your strategy for looking for new stories to read?

One I thought had excellent writing, but didn't really do anything for me, and the other I thought had simply godawful writing, but I loved it anyway.
Are you able to say why you loved the one your loved? It was about your own sexual tastes? It was written like a bat out of hell? Or might it have been a quality of authenticity? I hit on "authenticity" a few days after you posted this, and now I'm thinking your post may have been the trigger.

I read between 4 and 10 per month.

Probably two of those are suggested by a friend for us to review and discuss, two are beta reads for a couple of friends, three or four are ones I search out on my own to give to my friend for us to review and discuss, and one or two are for people who post here asking for help or opinions on something they are working on.

How do you go about your search?
Tags mostly.

I was going by category but it was taking hours to find a story I had any interest in reading past the first sentence or two.

And I've gotta say, I have a new appreciation for weird tags because that's usually where I find the ones that catch my interest. The basic tags tend to be overused and no better at narrowing choices down than categories. (My new favorite tag is "literal cream pie")

I don't think I've replied to this before.

I probably read 2 to 5 Lit stories per day. Depends how long they are. Some may be re-reads. I can easily read 40,000 words a day. (I also read off Literotica, though far less than I used to.) I would say I've probably read close to 6 million words of Lesbian Sex erotica this year!

Addicted? Moi? I don't know what you're talking about! ;-)

How do I find them?

When I started if was by trawling the favourites lists of writers I liked. I actually find that less easy now with the new format for authors' pages. Besides, I read most of them now!

So now I read stories that are:

1-Published by people I follow
2-Recommendations from people I correspond with (followers, other writers)
3-In the Lesbian Sex Hall of Fame (again, I've read nearly all of these now though, though I found part 4 of a series I hadn't read there today though)
4-New stories in Lesbian Sex with an H next to them
5-Re-reads of favourites

I have tried searching tags, but it usually throws up stuff I've either already read or has a crappy rating. I have found a few good ones, often in Sci-Fi or Non-Human that way.

I'm more of a casual browser. I check out the new releases in categories I publish in pretty much every day, and will always check out new stories from authors I follow. Beyond that, not much.

Thanks. I think I'll try that for a while.

Your definition of authenticity is interesting, but I don't think that's the reason I'd give as to why I enjoyed that story so much.

It's been awhile since I've read it, but I found the MC of that story to be very compelling. She was a sexy worker who described sex and her body in very mechanical language, devoid of any emotion or deep feeling. She had orgasms, but I could never tell if she enjoyed them, not even when she was with her boyfriend.

I am a very emotional person. My main enjoyment of sex comes from the emotional/psychological aspect, so it was fascinating to read about sex from the perspective of someone with a completely different attitude than mine. After I read the story and processed it, I reflected on how my own attitudes, biases, perspectives on sex pop up in my own writing.

The writing my have been poor, but I think it's worth noting that I don't remember the story I said was beautifully written. But the one with poor writing has stayed with me even months later and I think that's because it challenged me in a personal and creative sense.

I'm adding a new thing to my list of why I might like a story. Intriguing.

I read less now than I ever have...
Mostly because I am writing...
I have my favourite writers, who whenever they post something, I read it.
There are some incredibly talented writers within the doors of Literotica. Sometimes I think we take for granted that talent.
We don't pay for it, we get it for free... Stories as good or better than available anywhere else in the world...

I have my favourite categories which I skim through to see if there's something that interests or intrigues me...
If it's an unknown writer, I'll skim through the start. I usually find out by the end of the first page whether I'll stick with it...

On most day's I'll find something...

Stories are a treasure...

Somebody poured their heart and soul into... We should be grateful...

I've been coming to this site a long while, now. I'll look at the new stories, avoid ones that are really low rated (seems like, outside of LW, a story has to be kind of unreadable to be scored below a 3). Also avoid certain topics like extreme BDSM that don't interest me. And I don't like stories that get too serious and I'm not interested in reading a novel, so something that is a part 13 or that starts really dramatically with a funeral or something is usually out.

How do you spot weird tags? Someone alerted me to sapiosexuality yesterday. They'd found 16 stories with that tag. But it doesn't show up in the list on the home Tag Portal. Is that where you find your weird tags?

No. I just type out things that appeal to me or I would find amusing to read.

Sometimes I'll spot one on a story I liked and will search the term for similar stories, but mostly I just have an imagination and a decent vocabulary for smut.

It's been ages since I've actually read something on here. Must have been for Geek Pride Day '23 or thereabouts. Maybe a quick beta read in between? No idea. Haven't been in the right head space for long-form written erotica.

I search for key word “unprotected” … especially a tag. But that doesn’t update too often so I also look for “pregnant” word search.

Let me tell you. “Pregnant pause” is the bane of my searches 😏

Literotica can be overwhelming. It took me literally months to finally settle on this pattern. For a long time I really didn't look for stories in any consistent way at all.

I'll go first.

1- Probably less than one a week. I have a very restricted taste in erotica. (Watch for a new post someday on "How picky are you?")

2 - Here's my daily procedure to look for new stories.

All on the Story side.

Click on my avatar/My Home to see if any of the authors I'm following have published something.

I have three categories that I think might contain appealing stories. For each category I do this:
Scroll down to the random section and read the short descriptions for all those visible. The reason I do Random first is that it disappears if you click the "More" link.
Go back to the New section, see if today's date fills it up. If it does, I click on More New <category> Sex Stories so I can see all for the current day.
Skim those.

Check the AH/New Story Advertisements to see if anything grabs my attention. I'll read stories here not just because I think they'll turn me on, but because the author has some interesting thing to say in their post.
I probably read three to four per week. I always use the search function to find stories of interest.

It depends. If I’m looking to get off, I’ll find something short and to the point. Possibly two or three times a week. The trouble with that is that there is (are?) a plethora of short, badly written, head dumps of sexual fantasies that are little better than the random mashing of the keyboard. Using the red H as a filter helps but even then I’m sometimes baffled at what my fellow wo/man finds exciting.
That said, there are capable authors who can write something short and piquant. It’s an enviable skill.
The other kind of fiction I’m after is long form and usually romantic. It has to be authentic and literate and in some way (ahem) novel. The author has to display some dexterity.
Finding those are somewhat rarer and even they can become formulaic after a while. If I’m lucky I’ll find something to engage me once or twice a month.
Sometimes I’ll happen on a work that is in a field of kink that is not to my taste but is still a first class example of storytelling. That’s the joy of this site!

I knew a friend who wore a clever costume to a Halloween party. She was hugely, undeniably pregnant (eight months?) and wore a tight animal-paw-print fabric top that accentuated her condition. Then waited to see how many people at the party got the 'pregnant pause' joke.

Yessssss !!!!

Depending on the mood I’m in I will search keywords, whether within certain genres or just in general, again depending on mood.

Oh no, I'm currently writing Mailgirls Down Under, er, part 13. (...tries to work out whether I can get away with part 2.1...)

Probably less than 1 per week, on average. Which is a shame. Though it's not like I don't appreciate Lit: I'm reading very little mainstream fiction at the moment, too. It's just a bad habit I've fallen into, with me being busy IRL and more likely to pick easily-digestible content like movies when I'm feeling tired. I have read a couple stories by AH members in the past few months, though, and a few others when I've been in the mood. I have no real strategy!!
