A Visual Effect in Photographs

if a photo is shot in Raw you can change individual colors any way you want, if you want to make a strawberry blue you can without effecting the rest of the colors
Thanks. I'll look into this some more.

Damp, you can get entry level Wacom tablets for under 200 dollars :) Look into Wacom Bamboo Fun ;)

As I said, I first need a good camera before I can look into photoediting stuff. Thank for the information though. :)

hm, in photoshop i used to always just select the area i wanted to stay coloured, then reversed selection, and then turned to black and white - a lot less work, though it doesn't always turn out nice, sometimes the edges become really dodgy... anyone know if htat is possible in gimp too? or do you always have to do layers and do the whole long drawing process?

I'm not sure about Photoshop as I haven't got it, yet. I was doing a similar method as you described in one of my programs though and like you, found edges were sometimes a problem and then found the tutorial for GIMP. I really need to invest in Photoshop I think as when processing from RAW, I seem to need to do a bit in 2-3 different programmes if I want to do very much fiddling at all, and it can get tiring and confusing if my concentration is not great at the time.

Hope you get your camera soon....fortunately, you don't need to spend a lot to get a good one these days. You can of course, but you can get great shots out of fairly inexpensive ones.

Have my eye on a $200 one. :)

eta: I just saw and it's more like $250. *sigh*

As someone who was formally schooled in photoprocessing and manipulation...

The effect achieved byt the selective color can also be achieved using a mask and what is referd to as a duotone. Essentially the easiest way to create this effect is to use a color photo, create a new layer and duplicate the photo to the new layer and set the layer to grayscale. Then use the eraser to expose the color layer below...

Much faster than trying to select all the little bits and colorize... I used to dable in the hand coloring of B&W images and let me tell you it is a skill, not something to play at. The digital age has made it easier, but it is still a talent.

One thing to think about if you are a serious photo editor is get a digital tablet (wacom) instead of trying to use a clumbsy mouse. I would be lost without mine
well in photoshop the selecting of different parts wasn't as difficult, i found that easier than with gimp... but i tried that with the layers and eraser in gimp now, and it actually worked quite well, i was happy with the result...

As far as the color goes it was done editing the raw file and changing the color points

the same way i did this one removing all of the green and remapping the rest

I think I got what you were saying. I am playing with individual colors now and getting the results I want much more easily. Here are some results.
