Interesting how most of the answers here are fluffy. I'll swim upstream and answer you in all earnest, though.

Everything is a potential addiction to me. I doubt I'm the only one here that that label applies to, either. I'm a recovering alcoholic of several years, and a still addicted smoker. When I first started bottoming I swear I was addicted to that wonderful endorphin rush and the flight of subspace. Things are a lot different now, vis-a-vis my reaction to pain, and subspace. I don't get lost in flying and space anymore. Or, perhaps I've just found something new (the crisp crunch of the pain itself) to be addicted to?

I haven't a clue. All I know is that my neural pathways are wired for addiction. I have to keep one mind's eye ever open, and always remember that knowing myself is one of the strongest tools that I have.

I am with you there...I was keeping it light hearted, but I walked away from a year of drinking (and now often politely have to demure when my colleagues encourage me to imbibe too much...I picked a bad job LOL) and still struggle with it today
And I went thru a bad period with a certain powdery substance in high school
So yeah, me real addiction issues are a lot worse than the things I mentioned
