Tumblr may change their tune when they become tumbleweeds.
Then again they're now owned by some media giant who doesn't need it to be profitable. The repeal of Net Neutrality has a hand in this. Unfortunately I expect this to be a trend. I expect twitter to pull this stunt shortly.
I'm afraid we will see more and more, I wonder if Lit will get hit with stricter guidelines? I can already see some change from 10 years ago, I wonder what it will be like in another 10?
My guess is that another site will step up relatively quickly to lure Tumblr "refugees". I hope the compromise isn't less security at the replacement venue, and a less diligent effort to prevent malicious software from infecting their content.
Some amusing experimentation here from Tumblr users testing ways to fool the porn-detection algorithm: https://twitter.com/ChappellTracker/status/1071099239353249792
No word on how the algorithm feels about white shoes and bananas.
thought i'd check out tumblr porn. seems like a sunday thing to do
lots of stuff already flagged.
I'll probably get in trouble for saying this...but; There were real problems with the virtually unregulated images policy too. As I recall, one of the main reasons for the move was because of known and identifiable child porn exploitation. I doubt anyone here on Shank's Threads would support that. But I think it also can go a little deeper than obvious child abuse (again, not here). I know that in my own explorations on Tumblr I would run across images of mostly "young females" who may have been over 21 or not, but who looked as if they were posing nude under duress or coercion...the look in their eyes were not those of someone who is enjoying the moment. It's hard for me to support that.
So, as in most instances of "rules"; It's the ass-holes and pervs who screw things up for everyone. I've noticed some of this already leaking over here at Lit in what appears to be underage content. I suppose Tumblr had some form of a "report this image"...I never noticed it though. It would have been a good idea if they would have rolled out a better community monitoring try first. I suggest we all report images in posts on Lit that appear to violate the rules to keep the pervs from screwing up Lit too.

This is a valid concern. Thanks for adding it to the conversation.
