I played ice hockey at my high school, and while a lot of white people looked at me strangely, many black people thought I was weird for doing it. I was my team's MVP ! I made captain in one season ! A lot of the players resented me for getting tons of press because I was Mr. Black Man Playing Hockey. Just like one of my female cousins made waves for being the only female on the wrestling team a decade earlier.

That is such a shame. I married a Japanese American woman in the 1960s in Texas and we raised three sons and one daughter together. *nods* Makes sense to me. I grew up in an area that was 99% white and 1% black. That's it.. no percentages for asian, latino etc. So it's possible it's just a trend where I'm from. The men who told me that were from my hometown.
