Anyone from the UK?

Sorry and good morning everyone. I have stayed away from the thread for a few hours having been seeing reference to painting gates and cream pies. It was too much for my metabolism which I thought was safe on a thread like this. I return now I have seen homely references to weather, coffee and cake

It was really clear in my village. Unfortunately I was fast asleep but a good friend took some pics of it to show me. Hoping it'll still be visible tonight. I've always wanted to see the aurora

Sami shaman drums often had symbols that depicted these fires. When the aurora blazed in the sky you should be careful and stay inside and the children were told to quiet down.

If you disrespected the lights it would not only bring bad fortune, the lights could also sweep down and beat you to death. Despite the danger of mocking and teasing the northern lights - you were never supposed to wave or whistle at it - there was a rhyme that every child knew but never dared to say out loud.

there you go... don't wave!

Sami people believed the lights represented the souls of the dead and it was improper to discuss them. Waving at them was frowned upon too as if you caught their attention, the Sami believed the lights would reach down and carry you away.

That's from an article in Forbes, so must be true. I once texted someone that the Lady was overhead and, since then, have not seen her properly, so I must have upset her.

you can wave at Swifts though... and say hello.

at least, i think so... not heard otherwise from the Sami, but maybe they don;t reach that far north. I know Swallows do though
