B T K

I live in Kansas, I'm very familiar w/who BTK is. I've also taken a Serial Killer class (last semester, in fact) in which we discussed BTK at length. I think he very much craves attention and celebrity, whatever way he can get it.
I live in Kansas City, KS, just a stone's throw from the Missouri line. The talk here about BTK is wide, just as it was when Robinson was tried. Officials thought Robinson was so bad (and because his victims were found on both sides of the state line), he was brought to trial in both Missouri and in Kansas.

An interesting sidenote to that case. At the time (2001, I think?) people thought it was redundent and too costly to try him in both states. He got the death penalty in Kansas, so most thought that was sufficient. I haven't heard much about the Missouri case, which should be in the process by now, I think.

I don't think most people are still saying it's too costly, with the recent Kansas Supreme Court striking down the death penalty law here. Something about the wording, I heard. Living in Kansas, maybe you're aware of this? With that strike, it took everybody off of death row and placed them on the "life in prison" list. That included Robinson.

Anyway, I know they are trying to overturn that Court decision, and reinstate the death penalty. But, if people were intent on seeing Robinson put to death, the two state trial thing isn't such a bad idea, after all.

With BTK, his crimes were all committed before the death penalty was available in Kansas. So, the most he can receive is life in prison. Here, I don't know about where you live, there's talk about how that's just not good enough, knowing how his victims suffered. There's even talk about the so called "prison justice" that sometimes happens, and the main reason child molesters are never kept in the general population of a prison.

There might be murderers and rapists in prisons, but they still don't like to see someone harm a child. Many child molesters wouldn't live long, if put into the general prison. Personally, I think they should be put there. Why give them safety, after what they've done? But, like always, we have to be above all of that, because we are an aware society.

And your point about BTK soaking up all of the attention...that's been seen in the court procedings. He is enjoying every aspect of this. I've heard there's already a book deal in place, and even movie rights being talked about.

EDITED TO ADD...
To know these men actually tied women up to kill them kind of makes me feel sick to my stomach that I have something in common with them. Oh, I know we are at completely different ends of that spectrum, but it still makes me wonder about my bondage fetish, sometimes.

Did you see the movie 8mm?

No, I've never even heard of it.

You might want to rent it. Here's a summary:

"P.I Nicolas Cage plunges into the world of S&M pornography when a client asks him to investigate a violent film she found in her dead husband's safe."

It's a bad movie overall, but the S&m portrayals and the snuff aspect make it nearly unwatchable -- at least for this kinkster.

I have a few comments that I'd like to throw in here..

Most of the vanilla people I know do not consider all BDSM sick. I truly think that most people are more openminded than they are given credit for as long as they know it's consentual, and that some folks in the BDSM community continue to think that vanillas find them sick because it makes them feel special in some way. Blanket statements such as this should not be made lightly.

I know for sure that everyone I know thinks that serial killers are sick.

...Jeffery Dahmer was gay, and all of his victims were male not female, and gay as well. Did that make the gay communities uneasy and expectatious of criticism and backlash? I'm sure it did, and it definately happened, and for what I can tell, they survived.. As a female, did knowing I was safe from his particular radar make me feel superior? Well, maybe for some it did, but I myself felt sorry for the ones who had to fear for their lives simply because of who they were. I believe that most people feel that way because we are human beings...

Take care,
Syb.
First off , thanks for pointing out my error on Dahmer. I didn't mean to say Dahmer. I meant Ted Bundy. (thanks Netzach). I was just trying to make a point about his looks and how he attracted his victims without much difficulty.

But, the part of your post where you talk about the vaniila people you know don't consider all BDSM sick. I appreciate your views, and I don't know who's statement would be considered more correct. That is something everybody will have to decide on their own, I guess.

Personally, none of my vamilla friends know about my BDSM life. Yes, I have two sets of friends. I think it has a lot to do with where I live. I'm kind of in the bible belt, and also the mid-west U.S. Things that are not mid-western normal are quickly labeled as strange, sick or just silly. Oh, I have a few who know a little about my sexual self, but even that little bit is more than they want to know.

All of my friends tend to make light of the BDSM world. I don't know for sure if they think it's all just silly, or if they don't understand it, and so they condemn it. But, I've been friends with them all a long, long time, and consdier it best left alone. They know nothing about my sexual side and I know nothing about theirs. Well, some I do, and I have to say it isn't much more than the missionary position for a couple minutes at most.

I also have long time friend who I've known since high school. He became a psychologist. I've told him a little of what I enjoy and he thinks I'm sick and need counseling. Some friend, huh? He used to pester me about it, but I finally told him I didn't agree with him, so even though he has a degree and all, I didn't consider his findings to be correct.

He actually used the word sick. He said women who like pain are suffering from a serious lack of self confidence and are just trying to please in any way they can. He also said a lot of "those" women had been sexually molested in their childhood and their outlook on love has been damaged. And anyone who hits a woman is sadistic and an enabler for the woman's problems. I think I got all of that correct. It's been over ten years, since we had that talk.

I told him he didn't understand and that everything was consentual, but he said I was living a lie. Well, this guy is an old friend and I let him think what he wants. His schooling seemed to weigh heavily for him, and nothing I said would change his mind.

It all started when I went out to California for a visit. We went over to a couple's house for a visit and on the way out, he mentioned the man "likes to have his wife beat on him" and the wife enjoyed it. I remember that moment well. The way he said it sounded more like someone gossiping about his weird friends than a doctor commenting on a sickness.

Anyway, my experience has been that most vamilla people I know think those in BDSM, at the very least, are strange, if not sick. It's just a fact of life, because they don't know any better. I think if they were educated on the subject, that view could be changed, but getting some of those rednecks to sit and listen would be near impossible.

Well, I'm not much of a Nicolas Cage fan, unless there's a good looking woman in the movie, too. And, snuff is far from one of my favorite things to watch.

After your post, I checked some other reviews of the movie and it's said to kind of be a remake of "Hard Core" with George C. Scott. I did see that one, but it was a made for TV movie, if I remember correctly? So, Im sure "8MM" is far more graphic and real. I'm sure the shock value alone is quite unsettling.

Oh, I have a strong stomach for such things and I know from reading about the various skickos out there who use humans for their profit and sexual sport. Is there another reason I should rent it ... like will it make me feel better about my choice in life, maybe? Because if it's gonna make me feel bad or sad in some way, I really don't need that kind of stimulation, right now.

Lots of different view points and good information for those who are seeking a r/l Dominant in their life.

Unfortunately, I am ... but there is no end to the number of steps I take before I meet someone in person. The one thing that is the most important is to never, NEVER meet them for the first time alone.

Meet for coffee at a Starbucks - PLENTY of people around to feel safe. And if you are the least bit uncomfy ... don't walk - RUN for the nearest exit!!!! And don't go straight home. Go to a mall ... LOTS of people AND security if you need them.

Doesn't mean someone won't get caught by the likes of a Ted Bundy or BTK, but they don't want to have to deal with lots of people.

*shivers*

I think about this everytime I talk with someone new on the internet. Either they find me or I find them, Litsters or through other online chat based/personals based webpages.
Now that I've been trying to take over a Munch and get word out, that people have been contacting me back, forget that I'm a Submissive, I'm a person first... and as any person would, I worry and I fear. I've recieved a few invites from people in a reasonable distance from me for invite only Munch groups, I'd love to trust and go and meet people and so would M.

... but ... oi ... shit like this sends me back the ten steps I took foward over the years.
