Out of all the methods listed, the only effective one is abstinance. But, since this is a sex board, I am not niave enough to think that is what anyone will choose. I, myself, stress that condoms with spermicide should be used unless you are in the monogomous faithful relationship, as mentioned above. Unless you know your partner, and everyone they have been with, then please please use the condoms and spermicide.

Thanks GB

Just felt after some of the other post it was appropriate to just post it up.

depo

A word (or 20) about Depo....
If you are considering this, please check out the message board about the depo shot (somewhere out there in cyber space) first.
The 'up to a year to get pregnant' turns out to be closer to 2 or 3 years for most women.
This is not to mention those who mysteriously end up with unexplained secondary infertility.
Having no period for a few years was great, but the unbelievable cramping and bloating was much less fun, and the little cysts that half my friends grew...
Also, while I'm not sure this is completely true, it was explained to me by a lab scientist that Depo doesn't prevent ovolation. It prevents implantation. This means that sperm and egg unite, but are unable to plant.
Me personally, I had cramping, bloating, NO sex drive, 2 'missed pregnancies,' and backaches. It also brought my normally stabalized depression to suicide level and took me 2 1/2 years to get pregnant after just 1 single little shot in the butt!

Withdrawal

This really isn't a good method of birth control unless you are without anything else. A man...I guess leakes is the word I want to use? :) anyhow a man leakes out sperm, precum, whatever thoughout the entire time your having intercourse...and anyone of those boogers can get you pregnant...I like this thread and think it's a great idea!!! :) And if you don't want to get pregnant girls don't go for the withdrawal method too much!!! That's how I ended up with my 2nd son :) wouldn't trade him for nothing though :) Of course I can't use any birth control method except a condom...and some of those don't agree with me either...it's hard getting a guy to wear the condom everytime :(

It only took me 3 months off before I was pregnant, but this differes for everyone. Some may not be as fertile as others, some may be more fertile. Also, a man's own fertility has to do with it as well. For those who experiance secondary infertility, do not assume one thing. Get both people tested. I have one friend who has been married 2 years, with no birth control, and no kids. The husband refuses to get tested, because 'there isn't anything wrong with my water works'. That is just an ignorant comment. Especially considering she has been tested up and done, and according to the doc, 'there isn't anything wrong with her water works' either.

I never experiance cramps, or bloating, or any discomfort during my use of Depo. Again, this is something that veries depending on the woman. Some women have more painful periods to begin with. Some have pain free periods. I know one girl who was out of school alot during her period because she would get physically sick. If you experiance any discomfort during a period, or lack there of, then you need to talk with your Ob/gyn, as it could be a serious health problem. It could be that your method, whatever it is, is irritating to the system. Trying other methods can help you to find one that works better for you.

Many people have problems with each individual form of conception. This is natural, and normal. We are all made up of different chemistry, and inserting or injecting any form of chemical contriceptive can alter your own natural chemistry. Again, if you are experiancing discomfort, or are not happy with your current form, look into another. In this day and age, with the choices we have, you don't need to feel this way.

For the non-implantation of an embryo, alot of birth control methods work this way. I know for certain this is how Norplant works. Also, aftre re-reading my information, Lunelle, the Pill, Depo, and the IUD work this same way. The emergency contraceptive pill works in this fashion as well. This works more or less in the same fashion as what we know as an abortion, but it happens before the baby attaches itself to your uteran wall.

When I first was looking over contriceptive, I wanted norplant, because I didn't want kids for a while. the first thing my OB/GYN said was that it mimicked abortion, in that it would shed any fertilized eggs that I had. That turned me off from the method, but I have since learned that any chemical birth control works in this same method. I was not informed of that at the time.

Before deciding on any method, talk talk with yuor doctor, and partner, and find the method that is best for you. This will likely be a trial and error period for you until you find one that is comfortable.

Good Luck :)
