I get it. His coping mechanism is to separate himself and deal with everything internally, and I think everybody up to this point has allowed him to do that. Except now there is Beth. And I think the fact that she's making him talk and is genuinely interested in his feelings both frightens and attracts him. It's a strange, simultaneous push-and-pull situation for him.

I think you're right, she's supposed to be a high school aged kid, and he's supposed to be somewhere around 30. So he is probably wary of that.

I don't know if it's fear exactly, but something akin to it. Apprehension, maybe? It's not like Merle was a great influence and was likely totally unreceptive to opening up and sharing feelings. This is probably a first for him, and I would bet he's concerned about pitfalls.

What I write is often drawn from personal experience. I have respect for anybody I choose to take to bed though, and wouldn't share exact details of a dalliance unless we both agreed to it

I think Daryl could be okay on his own, but it would annihilate his emotional state. I don't think he'd go full Governor and become psychotic, but I think he would be so utterly and completely withdrawn from people he couldn't find his way back and rejoin any survivor group.

He kinda went crazy when he said he needed to pee then took out a lot of anger on the walked a bit later in the show. I thought it was a bit over kill since she changed her shirt and all.
My issue is I haven't seen the first season. I started at the beginning of the second season. I need to take time and watch the first season and see what happened and all.

Oh you absolutely need to see the first season! It's only 6 episodes, but man do they set the tone for the whole show. You'll also get a look at how the virus works. It's a really interesting season and will make a bunch of stuff that happens in the following seasons make sense
