Great thread and, while I am sure I will echo some of the other post here, this is a very common theme.

I travel for business several times each year. Many trips are strictly for my clients - so as a rule, they are fly in, work like hell, eat, sleep and fly out. However, I also get a chance to attend a few conferences each year. Since no clients are involved and I am paying my own way, I take liberty with any "down-time". The conferences usually are three-four days long and are frankly, boring as hell. Even assuming one attends each and every hours something is presented, it still leaves the evenings. Of course there are the usual mixers and an occasional dinner - but after that.

There is really not much else to do beyond that - most common options include, tour the city, catch-up on all the work you should have been doing back at the office, "hook-up" with a colleague- or non-colleague (which is not my thing, but I understand it happens). So, notwithstanding exercising one of those three options, it pretty much leaves masturbation.
