Sadly its an all too common story on Lit and other places. When it comes time to put up or shut up someone chooses to shut up.
Though sometimes it's just that life changes.
Sometimes you have tickets, hotel and rental car purchased or reserved and the person you're going to see meets someone in real life. They click and start a relationship. It might still be going strong five years later. It hurts then but makes you happy now. I'm not pretending to know what your stand-upee said or did.
I'm sorry you were left in a lurch at the last minute. The one upside is many airlines are still letting you move tickets for free. Hopefully you'll find a more satisfying way to use them in the near future. You do seen inundated with offers.
