Clever lyrics (or "Wish I'd thought of that!")

but all my words come back to me
in shades of mediocrity.

You don't possess me, don't impress me

Just use up my time. I Talk to the Wind King Crimson

I stand in the hallway
She stands in the hall
I stand at the doorway
she stands at the door
I lean on the window

I wish for beginnings
she waits for the end.
for the end. for the end. Northstar Daryl Hall

Creatures shaped
this planet's soil
Now their reign has come to end.
Has life again destroyed life?
do they play elsewhere?
do they know more than
their childhood games?

Judge not this race

would you judge god

TONS more, but I am drunk and going to bed. :> Peace

some days, i wish i were one....my favorite lines are italicized.

If I Were A Boy
Songwriters: Carlson, Britney; Gad, Toby; Knowles, Beyonce;

If I were a boy even just for a day
I'd roll out of bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted
And go drink beer with the guys

And chase after girls
I'd kick it with who I wanted
And I'd never get confronted for it
'Cause they stick up for me

If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man

I'd listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
'Cause he's taking you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy
I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it's broken
So they'd think that I was sleeping alone

I'd put myself first
And make the rules as I go
'Cause I know that she'd be faithful
Waiting for me to come home, to come home

If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man

I'd listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
'Cause he's taking you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

It's a little too late for you to come back
Say it's just a mistake
Think I'd forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong

But you're just a boy
You don't understand
And you don't understand, oh
How it feels to love a girl
Someday you wish you were a better man

You don't listen to her
You don't care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
'Cause you're taking her for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

But you're just a boy

Accidental Babies -- Damien Rice

Well I held you like a lover
Happy hands and your elbow in the appropriate place

And we ignored our others, happy plans
For that delicate look upon your face

Our bodies moved and hardened
Hurting parts of your garden
With no room for a pardon
In a place where no one knows what we have done

Do you come
Together ever with him?
And is he dark enough?
Enough to see your light?
And do you brush your teeth before you kiss?
Do you miss my smell?
And is he bold enough to take you on?
Do you feel like you belong?
And does he drive you wild?
Or just mildly free?
What about me?

Well you held me like a lover
Sweaty hands
And my foot in the appropriate place

And we use cushions to cover
Happy glands
In the mild issue of our disgrace

Our minds pressed and guarded
While our flesh disregarded
The lack of space for the light-hearted
In the boom that beats our drum

Well I know I make you cry
And I know sometimes you wanna die
But do you really feel alive without me?
If so, be free
If not, leave him for me
Before one of us has accidental babies
For we are in love

Do you come
Together ever with him?
Is he dark enough?
Enough to see your light?
Do you brush your teeth before you kiss?
Do you miss my smell?
And is he bold enough to take you on?
Do you feel like you belong?
And does he drive you wild?
Or just mildly free?

What about me?
What about me?

MC Paul Barman - Cock Mobster

It's a porn Utopia, a cornucopia of warm fallopia
My dandy voice makes the most anti-choice grannie's panties moist...

I like shorned quim lasses in horn rimmed glasses
but Cindy Crawford offered.

Ani Difranco - Fierce Flawless

(almost any Ani song would fit here, but if you like this look for Untouchable Face)

she was cuffed to the truth like the truth was a chair
bright interrogation light in her eyes
her conscience lit a cigarette and just stood there
waiting for her to crack
waiting for her to cry
his face scampered through her mind
like a roach across a wall
it made her heart soar
it made her skin crawl
they said, we got this confession we just need for you to sign
why don't you just cooperate and make this easier on us all

there was light and then there was darkness
but there was no line in between
and asking my heart for guidance
was like pleading with a machine
cuz joy, it has its own justice
my dreams are languid and lawless
and everything bows to beauty
when it is fierce
and when it is flawless

on the table were two ziploc baggies
containing her eyes and her smile
they said, we're keeping these as evidence
'til this thing goes to trial
meanwhile anguish was fingering solace
in another room down the hall
both were love's accomplices
but solace took the fall

now look at her book of days
it's the same on every page
and she's got a little tin cup with her heart in it
to bang along the bars of her rib cage
bang along the bars of her rib cage

The Magnetic Fields - Love is Like a Bottle of Gin

It makes you blind, it does you in
It makes you think you're pretty tough
It makes you prone to crime and sin
It makes you say things off the cuff
It's very small and made of glass
And grossly over-advertised
It turns a genius into an ass
And makes a fool think he is wise
It could make you regret your birth
Or turn cartwheels in your best suit
It costs a lot more than it's worth
And yet there is no substitute
They keep it on a higher shelf
The older and more pure it grows
It has no color in itself
But it can make you see rainbows
You can find it on the Bowery
Or you can find it at Elaine's
It makes your words more flowery
It makes the sun shine, makes it rain
You just get out what they put in
And they never put in enough
Love is like a bottle of gin
But a bottle of gin is not like love

Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)

He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline
He started playing hockey by the time he was nine
His dad took the hose and froze the back yard
And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard
He grew up big and he grew up tough
He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks
But he wasn't that good with a puck

Buddy's real talent was beating people up
His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up
Through pee-wee's and juniors, midgets and mites
He must have racked up more than six hundred fights
A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon
Said, "There's always room on our team for a goon
Son, we've always got room for a goon"

There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Brains over brawn-- that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared
When Buddy the goon came over the boards
"Coach," he'd say, "I wanna score goals"
The coach said, "Buddy, remember your role
The fast guys get paid, they shoot, they score
Protect them, Buddy, that's what you're here for
Protection is what you're here for
Protection-- it's the stars that score
Protection-- kick somebody's ass
Protection-- don't put the biscuit in the basket
Just hit some, Buddy! It rang in his ears
Blood on the ice ran down through the years
The king of the goons with a box for a throne
A thousand stitches and broken bones
He never lost a fight on his icy patrol
But deep inside, Buddy only dreamed of a goal
He just wanted one damn goal

There were Swedes at the blue line
Finns at the red
A Russian with a stick heading straight for his head
Brains over brawn-- that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

In his final season, on his final night
Buddy and a Finn goon were pegged for a fight
Thirty seconds left, the puck took a roll
And suddenly Buddy had a shot on goal
The goalie committed, Buddy picked his spot
Twenty years of waiting went into that shot
The fans jumped up, the Finn jumped too
And coldcocked Buddy on his follow through
The big man crumbled but he felt all right
'Cause the last thing he saw was the flashing red light
He saw that heavenly light

There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Take care of your teeth-- that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

Superchunk - Misfits and Mistakes

All these open spaces
Well they give me no cover now
I stand out here, reflecting all your fears off my odd surfaces
And those friendly faces,
Well they just, disappear somehow
Behind the glass, the dirty window curtains and shades coming down

Well these bright clear skies
Oh they they give me no peace of mind
I'm out here cooking all alone in the sun
Put me away I'm done anyhow
And those funny faces
Yeah they're all crumbling down
It's something like shying away from any shapes that you don't recognize

But you were never delicate
Paper clips and paper cuts
Rusty plates from out of state
And further away than that

Say you will say you will
Gather like leaves in the gutter
Say you will say you will
Put all the random pieces together

But you were never delicate
Paper clips and paper cuts
Rusty plates
Plastic six-pack rings 'round the wrists of the worst of us

Say you will, say you will
Gather like leaves in the gutter
Say you will, say you will
Put all the random pieces together
Say you will say you will
For all the misfits, mistakes, and the others
Say you will, say you will
Fall down together like lines in your letters
Put all the random pieces together
Put all the random pieces together now

Tom Waits - Down There By The Train (performed by Johnny Cash)

There's a place I know where the train goes slow
Where the sinner can be washed in the blood of the lamb
There's a river by the trestle down by sinner's grove
Down where the willow and the dogwood grow

You can hear the whistle, you can hear the bell
From the halls of heaven to the gates of hell
And there's room for the forsaken if you're there on time
You'll be washed of all your sins and all of your crimes
If you're down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

There's a golden moon that shines up through the mist
And I know that your name can be on that list
There's no eye for an eye, there's no tooth for a tooth
I saw Judas Iscariot carrying John Wilkes Booth
He was down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
He was down there where the train goes slow

If you've lost all your hope, if you've lost all your faith
I know you can be cared for and I know you can be safe
And all the shamefuls and all of the whores
And even the soldier who pierced the side of the Lord
Is down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

Well, I've never asked forgiveness and I've never said a prayer
Never given of myself, never truly cared
I've left the ones who loved me and I'm still raising Cain
I've taken the low road and if you've done the same
Meet me down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

Meet me down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

Lover I Don't Have to Love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuXkhE0VMcw

Bright Eyes - Lover I Don't Have to Love

I picked you out
Of a crowd and talked to you.
Said I liked your shoes,
You said, "Thanks, Can I follow you?"

So it's up the stairs,
And out of view. No prying eyes.
I poured some wine.
I asked your name;
You asked the time.

Now it's two o'clock.
The club is closed,
We are up the block.
Your hands are on me,
Pressing hard against your jeans,
Your tongue in my mouth,
Trying to keep the words from coming out,
You didn't care to know
Who else may have been you before.

I want a lover I don't have to love,
I want a girl who's too sad to give a fuck.
Where's the kid with the chemicals?
I thought he said to meet him here,
But I'm not sure.
I've got the money
If you've got the time.
He said, "It feels good."
I said "I'll give it a try."

Then my mind went dark,
We both forgot where your car was parked.
Let's just take the train.
I'll meet up with the band in the morning

Bad actors, with bad habits...
Some sad singers, they just play tragic.
And the phone is ringing,
And the van is leaving
Let's just keep touching,
Let's just keep...keep singing

I want a lover I don't have to love,
I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk.
Where's the kid with the chemicals?
I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full.
I need some meaning I can memorize.
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind.

But you, but you...

You write such pretty words,
But life's no storybook.
Love's an excuse to get hurt.
And to hurt.
Do you like to hurt?
I do, I do.
Then hurt me,
Then hurt me,
Then hurt me...-

So many good songs...

Atmosphere - Yesterday

I thought I saw you yesterday
But I didn't stop, 'cause you was walkin' the opposite way
I guess I could've shouted out your name
But even if it was you, I don't know what I would say
We could sit and reminisce about the old school
Maybe share a cigarette, because we both fools
Chop it up and compare perspectives
Life, love, stress and set-backs, yes
So you could tell me how hard you had it
And you could show me all the scars to back it
And we could analyze each complaint
Break it down and explain these mistakes I make
I like to tangle up the strings of the puppetry
But you knew me back when I was a younger me
You seen Sean in all types of light
And I've been meanin' to ask you if I'm doin' alright

Yesterday
Was that you? Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we been through
Or am I just goin' crazy 'cause I miss you?

I'm shook, I know, I pushed when I should've pulled
Took it all back if I could, I put that on my soul
And I would make a top-notch good listener
If you could block-off a little time out to give it here
Since we went our separate paths
I've hit a couple snags that remind me of the past
I can't front, I'm havin' a blast
But damned if I ain't afraid of how long it's gonna last
Sittin' here wishin' we could kick it
Give me your opinions, I do miss the criticisms
I didn't mean to be distant, make a visit
I'll wait up and keep the coffee brewin' in the kitchen
But who am I jokin' with?
There's no way that you and I will ever get to re-open it
It doesn't matter, this is more than love
And maybe if I'm lucky, get to see you out the corner of

Yesterday
Was that you? Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we been through
Or am I just goin' crazy 'cause I miss you?

And when you left, I didn't see it comin'
I guess I slept, it ain't like you was runnin'
You crept out the front door slow
And I was so self-absorbed I didn't even know
And by the time I looked up it was booked up
Put it all behind you, the bad and the good stuff
A whole house full of dreams and steps
I think you'd be impressed with the pieces I kept
You disappeared but the history is still here
It's why I try not to cry over spilt beer
I can't even get mad that you're gone
Leavin' me was probably the best thing you ever taught me
I'm sorry, it's official
I was a fist-full, I didn't keep it simple
Chip on the shoulder, anger in my veins
Had so much hatred, now it brings me shame
Never thought about the world without you
And I promise that I'll never say another bad word about you
I thought I saw you yesterday
But I know it wasn't you, 'cause you passed away, dad

Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we been through
Or am I just goin' crazy 'cause I miss you?

Mason Jennings - Adrian

Looking down from the apple tree
My hands tied in back of me
With this rope below my chin
We don't fear death my adrian
Trust me son that one day soon
You'll be on the bottom where the boat breaks through
To let our freedom in again
We don't fear death my adrian
From now on i am part of you
I am the story that you'll tell
Let my life empower you
Let my troubles teach you well
Let your burning hatred go
Learn yourself until you know
That fear is where all hatred begins
We don't fear death my adrian
From now on i am part of you
I am the story that you'll tell
Let my life empower you
Let my troubles teach you well
As they set my last breath free
Turn your eyes but don't fail to see
The love you feel inside your skin
We don't fear death my adrian
We don't fear death my adrian

The Replacements - I Will Dare

How young are you?
How old am I?
Let's count the rings around my eyes

How smart are you?
How dumb am I?
Don't count any of my advice

Oh, meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I might dare

Call me on Thursday, if you will
Or call me on Wednesday, better still
Ain't lost yet, so I gotta be a winner
Fingernails and a cigarette's a lousy dinner
Young, are you?

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare

How young are you?
How old am I?
Let's count the rings around my eyes

Green Day - Restless Heart Syndrome

I've got a really bad disease
It's got me begging
On my hands and knees
Take me to the emergency
'Cause something seems to be missing
Somebody take the pain away
It's like an ulcer bleeding in my brain
Send me to the pharmacy
So I can lose my memory
I'm elated
Medicated
Lord knows I tried to find a way to run away.

I think they found another cure
For broken hearts and feeling insecure
You'd be surprised what I endure
What makes you feel so self-assured?

I need to find a place to hide
You never know what could be
Waiting outside
The accidents that you could find
It's like some kind of suicide

So what ails you is what impales you
I feel like I've been crucified to be satisfied

I'm a victim of my symptom
I am my own worst enemy
You're a victim of your symptom
You are your own worst enemy
Know your enemy.

I'm elated
Medicated
I am my own worst enemy
So what ails you is what impales you
You are your own worst enemy
You're a victim of the system
You are your own worst enemy
You're a victim of the system
You are your own worst enemy

Paul Westerberg has always been one of my favorite songwriters. I think the whole album "All Shook Down" has great lyrics (as well as infectious songs). The line above about fingernails and cigarettes reminded me of the first verse from "Bent Out of Shape," which to me is as perfect a description of Heartache 101 as I can think of:

BENT OUT OF SHAPE

There's popcorn for dinner
last night it was cheesecake
a little sleepy-time tea
spiked with another heartache

I smell you hair
the clothes I wear
I miss your face
can't you see I'm bent all out of shape
you got me bent all out of shape

I couldn't lie if I tried
yeah you kept me staight
it don't feel so good
but it made me feel great
bent out of shape

You wanna be a dancer
and I'm on my last leg
call but you don't answer
I call again tomorrow
I call again today

I smell your hair
the clothes I wear
I miss your face
can't you see I'm bent all out of shape
you got me, got me bent all out of shape

I couldn't lie if I tried
oh you kept me straight
it don't feel good
but it's gonna feel great
bent out of shape

I don't need no lover
I don't need no more friends
they tell me to forget her
tell me to forget her
but I never felt better

Then to smell your hair
the clothes I wear
I wear your face
can't you see I'm bent all out of shape
you got me bent all out of shape

Well my friends all say it shows, it shows
now I don't care who knows
and that feels good
it made me feel great
bent out of shape

Got me bent out of shape

Got me up
Got me up

I'm finding more and more that there is some really amazing music on television commericals. Tomorrow, I'll post a couple of others I came across while watching tv, enjoy.

You Make It Real - James Morrison : heard on an Overstock.com commercial.

Mmmm…
There’s so much craziness, surrounding me
There’s so much going on, it gets hard to breathe
All my faith has gone, you bring it back to me
You make it real for me
Well I’m not sure of my priorities
I’ve lost site of where I’m ment to be
And like holy water washing over me

You make it real for me
And IIIIIII’m running to you baby
Youuu.. are the only one who save me
That’s whyyy I’ve been missing you lately
Cause you make it real for me…

When my head is strong, but my heart is weak
I’m full of hurricanes and uncertainty
But I can find the words
You teach my heart to speak

You make it real for meee yeaaah
And IIIIIIII’m running to you baby
You are the only one who save me
That’s whyyy I’ve been missing you lately
Cause you make it real for me…

Everybodies talking in words
I don’t understand
You got to be the only one
Who knows just who I am
And you shine in the distance
I hope I can make it through
Cause the only place
That I want to be
Is right back home with you

I guess there’s so much more
I have to learn
But if you’re here with me
I know which way to turn
You always give me somewhere
Somewhere I can learn

You make it real for me
And IIIIIII’m running to you baby
Cause youuuu… are the only one who save me
That’s whyyyyyy I’ve been missing you lately
Cause you make it real for me…
You make it real for me….

I'm really taken with these lyrics: political movement as love metaphor. I started italicizing the parts I liked, and then realized I'd ital'd about 3/4 of it.

The Weakerthans: "Pamphleteer"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnRlEL_RbEY&feature=related

I'm standing on this corner.
Can't get their attention.
Facing rush hour faces turned around.
I clutch my stack of paper, press one to a chest,
then watch it swoop and stutter to the ground.
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
and waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
in all that I could never overcome?
How I don't know what I should do with my hands when I talk to you.
How you don't know where you should look, so you look at my hands.
How movements rise and then dissolve, melted by our shallow breath.
How causes dance away from me.
I am your pamphleteer.
I walk this room in time to the beat of the Gestetner,
contemplate my next communique.
The rhetoric and treason of saying that I'll miss you.
Of saying "Hey, well maybe you should stay."
Sing "Oh what force on earth could be weaker than the feeble strength of one"
like me remembering the way it could have been.
Help me with this barricade.
No surrender. No defeat.
A spectre's haunting Albert Street.
I am your pamphleteer.

oh i've been gone too long from the boards.. .and this thread seems to have slowed down a bit... maybe we can wake it up.... this has been a nonstop favorite for me lately...

Butterfly - Jason Mraz

I'm taking a moment just imaginin' that I'm dancin' with you
I'm your pole and all you're wearing is your shoes
You got soul, you know what to do to turn me on until I write a song about you
And you have your own engaging style
And you've got the knack to vivify
And you make my slacks a little tight, you may unfasten them if you like
That's if you crash and spend the night

But you don't fold, you don't fade
You've got everything you need, especially me
Sister you've got it all
You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all
You've got it all

Curl your upper lip up and let me look around
Ride your tongue along your bottom lip and bite down
And bend your back and ask those hips if I can touch
'Cause they're the perfect jumping off point, getting closer to your

Butterfly
Well you float on by
Oh, kiss me with your eyelashes tonight
Or Eskimo your nose real close to mine
And let's mood the lights and finally make it right
But you don't fold, you don't fade, you've got everything you need
Especially me
Sister you've got it all

You make the call to make my day
In you message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all (2x)

You've got it all, you've got it all

Doll I need to see you pull your knee socks up
Let me feel you up side, down slide, in slide, out slide, over here
Climb in my mouth now child

*scat*

Butterfly, well you landed on my mind
Damn right you landed on my ear and then you crawled inside
And now I see you perfectly behind closed eyes
I wanna fly with you and I don't wanna lie to you
Cause I, cause I can't recall a better day
So I'm coming to shine on the occasion

You're an open minded lady
You've got it all
And I never forget a face
'Cept for maybe my own
I have my days
Let's face the fact here, it's you who's got it all

You know that fortune favors the brave
Well let me get paid while I make you breakfast
The rest is up to you, you make the call

You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all

I can't recall a better day
So I'm coming to shine on the occasion
You're a sophisticated lady, oh you've got it all

You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all (3x)
You've got it all, you've got it all...

Butterfly, baby, well you've got it all

Taking Back Sunday: Liar

All our secrets they are tailored trouble
Draped loose now around your hips
Your spotless instincts are valid
We coexist
Got 26 days to work with (got 26 days)
We got 26 days to work with (it moves, it moves, it moves)
We'll see what all gets done

I'm an addict for dramatics
I confuse the two for love
"You can tell me that you don't beg..."

Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)
Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)

Got 26 days to work with (got 26 days)
Then back on that island
That you swear by
Still barely can't afford
It's still a question of
How long will this hold?
Is it any different now that we are
Don't you go there not here, not now
(it moves, it moves, it moves)
Not here, not now

I'm an addict for dramatics
I confuse the two for love
You can tell me don't beg

Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)
Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
Were all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)

We're all choir boys at best

Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)
Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)
Liar (liar)
Liar (liar)
It takes one to know one

California King (Bed) : Rihanna

Chest to chest
Nose to nose
Palm to palm
We were always just that close

Wrist wrist
Toe to toe
Lips that felt just like the inside of a rose
So how come when I reach out my fingers
It feels like more than distance between us

[Chorus]
In this california king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been california wishing on these stars
for your heart, for me
My california king

Eye to eye
Cheek to cheek
Side by side
You were sleeping next to me

Arm in arm
Dusk to dawn
With the curtains drawn
And a little last night on these sheets

So how come when I reach out my fingers
It seems like more than distance between us

[Chorus]
In this california king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been california wishing on these stars
for your heart, for me
My california king

Just when I felt like giving up on us
You turned around and gave me one last hug
That made everything feel better
And even then my eyes got wetter

So confused, wanna ask you if you love me
But I don't wanna seem so weak
Maybe I've been california dreaming

[Chorus]
In this california king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
been california wishing on these stars
for your heart, for me
My california king

In this california king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been california wishing on these stars
for your heart, for me
My california king

only because i'm listening to this song now:

who am i to say - hope

Love of my life, my soulmate
You're my best friend
Part of me like breathing
Now half of me is left

I don't know anything at all
Who am I to say you love me
I don't know anything at all
And who am I to say you need me

Color me blue I'm lost in you
Don't know why I'm still waiting
Many moons have come and gone
Don't know why I'm still searching

Don't know anything at all
And who am I to say you love me
I don't know anything at all
And who am I to say you need me

Hmmm hmmm mmm

Uhhh oohhh aahhh
Hooo aahhh ohh ohhh

Now you're a song I love to sing
Never thought it'd feel so free
Now I know what's meant to be
And that's okay with me

But who am I to say you love me
And who am I to say you need me
And who am I to say you love me

Mmmm Hmmm

I don't know anything at all
And who am I to say you love me
I don't know anything at all
And who am I to say you need me
I don't know anything at all

I don't know anything at all
I don't know anything at all
I don't know anything at all

Lover, you should have come over -- Jeff Buckley

Looking out the door
I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations
As their shoes fill up with water
Maybe I'm too young
To keep good love from going wrong
But tonight, you're on my mind so
You never know

Broken down and hungry for your love
With no way to feed it
Where are you tonight?
Child, you know how much I need it.
Too young to hold on
And too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away,
When he feels like he should be having his fun
Much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really,
He has no one

So I'll wait for you
And I'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return?
Will I ever learn?
Lover, you should've come over
Cause it's not too late.

Lonely is the room the bed is made
The open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one
Who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep
That won't ever come
It's never over,
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over,
All my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her
It's never over,
All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over,
She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever

But maybe I'm just too young to keep good love
From going wrong
Yes, and I feel too young to hold on
I'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind
To see the damage I've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Well I'll wait for you
'Cause it's not too late.

"No Hard Feelings" by the Bloodhound Gang has a line in it that every time I hear it, it cracks me up....

"If I want to be repeatedly shit on, I'd make Dutch Porn."

What a great thread! This song moves me and makes me think about what it truly is I want...

Within Temptation - Where is the Edge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qP22G2PJKQ

In the shadows it awakes the desire
But you know that you can’t realize
And the pressure will just keep rising
Now the heat is on

Its too late, there is no way around it
You will see for yourself many times
In the end you will give up the fight
Its unescapable

‘Cause you’re losing your mind and you sleep
In the heart of the lies

Where is the edge
Of your darkest emotions?
Why does it all survive?
Where is the light
Of your deepest devotions?
I pray that it’s still alive

It’s the rule that you live by and die for
Its the one thing you can’t deny
Even though you don’t know what the price is
It is justified

So much more that you’ve got left to fight for
But it still doesn’t change who you are
There is no fear you’ll ever give in to
You’re untouchable

‘Cause you’re losing your mind and you sleep
In the heart of the night

Where is the edge
Of your darkest emotions?
Why does it all survive?
Where is the light
Of your deepest devotions?
I pray that it’s still alive

You can’t stop yourself
Don’t want to feel
Don’t want to see what you’ve become
You can’t walk away
From who you are
Never give in

Where is the edge
Of your darkest emotions?
Why does it all survive?
Where is the light
Of your deepest devotions?
I pray that it’s still alive

here is another one - a classic :) My Gypsy soul needs to be rocked lol

Van Morriosn - Into the Mystic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVAnlke_xUY

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was one as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when the fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And magnificently we will fold into the mystic

When that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will fold into the mystic
Come on girl...

There's an old version of Katy Cruel that has this refrain (other versions vary) that always struck a chord with me:

Oh, that I was what I would be,
Then would I be what I am not?
Here am I where I must be;
Go where I would I cannot.

And one verse in particular stood out as well:

Down the road I'm going,
Through the boggy mire,
Straightway 'cross the fields
And to my heart's desire.

I couldn't find the version to which I've referred, but I do like this one from a French TV show in the 60s:
