Crafty Litsters show your work!

Thanks.

I like the way the collar is closed, because I can make it myself with simple tools (hammer, hacksaw, vice and file), it is all stainless steel and it is very strong.

All the force is taken by the "locking piece”, and the closure is completely rigid once a small padlock is in place.
The skin on the neck is easily pinched, but not with this one.

I guess I might as well

Not sure how many other chain mail artists we might have on this thread ... sorry my adhd couldn’t be held back much longer to look through everything I will try to slowly over time l. But here is some of the stuff I make here and there as I find the time and will to do so... or as I get orders and have to lol...

I find chainmail fascinating but don't have the patience for it. I've seen some amazing works done with it and those using various colors which are awesome.
I admire your talent and patience!

Thank you although to be honest for me the repetitive nature is zen. I have unfortunately been without inspiration recently... maybe something will hit me in the new year

Very nice!

Silver?

It looks great.
You should try silver some day. It deserves it.

A test piece to see, how hard four layers of leather could be to get through.
It wasn’t bad.

Makes one dream of a mini drill press or maybe a Dremel!

The Castle Cumference Workshop has those (but Proxxon, not Dremel. Much less noise and vibration).

Being able to sew it in the normal way rather than drilling the holes makes it much easier.
I’m thinking about sewing a relatively thick leather slab and shaping it, to act as a handle on a paddle.

The test piece was a study for this percussion instrument:

Four layers of leather for the handle, two for the slapping part and a D-ring because that is a good thing to have.

I like it.... very nice.

Thanks
:)

This is something I would love to learn to do!

I an honored!

It is not that hard.
I think I have already recommended “The art of hand sewing leather” by Al Stohlman, but I have no qualms doing it again.
He teaches the basic “saddle stitch”, which will solve most tasks, and is extremely strong.

Two needles, an awl, a stitching groove tool, a “fork” or an overstitch wheel (the Wartenberg wheel from the toy box would work too) to get the spacing right, and most importantly: a stitching pony to hold the piece while sewing.

Waxed linen thread and a lump of beeswax.

A “strap cutter” is something you don’t need... until you’ve tried it :D

That is basically it.

Grab some leather scraps, and train on them.
It is well worth the time to get the technique right from the beginning.

A bunch of sewn up leather scraps from the scraps box.
I still do it as a warmup if I have had a hiatus from the sewing (so many fun things to do and so little time!)

The tools from the top are.

Groover that can be set to cut a distance from the edge.
Free hand groover (or rather “along a ruler”)
Edge cutter
Overstitch wheel
Awl

The upper right piece with the string is youngest kids first test piece.
:)
Let’s see if I can make him do it some more.

Made another “belt” tonight.
I like the handle better, if it is one strip of leather wrapped around the end and the D-ring.

I'm thinking about reopening my online shop but there's no real call for shoes for little ones down here.

This was the first I ever made and the pattern for ones that followed.

Not sexual in nature, unless you are trying to woo a woodpecker. Here are mandolin necks I am building from scratch. Bodies to come.

Curly maple, ebony, hickory and cherry woods.

Nice!
I look forward to the continuation.

(And woodworking is a very pervertable skill by the way)
