Chicklet, good idea, will do that on the story voting and on all feedback I give in future. Sometimes you get stuck on what to write, esp. if you don't really like it, or you like it too much!

just a technical busy body comment

A suggestion, Earl

Instead of rating the stories 1 best, 2 middle, 3 worst, I found it was a lot easier to give three points to the best story and only 1 to the third choice. That way you only have to add up the points, instead of anything more difficult. Just a suggestion

I'd also like to second Chicklet's suggestions. I think the idea of a critique of each story would be a great addition to the contest.

For the math to work correctly, you need to follow DN's 3,2,1 system ... otherwise a story that gets only one '1' and doesn't rank in any other top three, will come out higher than a story that gets consistent 1's and one 2...

You could assign 10's to all the nonranked stories for each judge and then do the adding and choose the lowest number as the best, but it is easiest to just do the 3 as the best and down and then pick the highest scorer.

This is how they do the "top forty" stuff...

the italics really do pull you out. I understand that it isn't your fault - two suggestions. 1) you can pm/email laurel or 2) (which would probably work better) re-submit it - title big RESUBMISSION and in the notes explain why you're resubmitting it - it'll probably be fixed then.
