Cut or uncut?

The US culture, along with Jewish and Muslim cultures, are the only significant ones in the world where the mutilation of circumcision of males too young to consent is regularly carried out, with no good medical reason.

Common sense, and some evidence, suggests that the heads of circumcised cocks are likely to be de-sensitised by constant friction against clothing.

I'm glad that like most males in my country, and in the vast majority of the civilised world, my penis remains as nature designed it. And nature, or evolution, usually has good reason. It certainly has in this case.

Circumcision of boys who are too young to consent is genital mutiliation. Not quite as evil in its consequences as FGM, but barbarous and uncivilised nonetheless.

I am cut and I prefer men I'm with to be cut but I won't turn down a guy that is uncut

My first guy was uncut and in my naiveté I thought all men were uncut. Now that I have some basis for comparison I think I would lean towards the uncut, but that preference might have more to do with the man than the tool.

Whew. I'm uncut. There is hope for me! ;)

Living in the US, they've been cut with few exceptions. Like Justagoodgirl, I think either can be good, or great, but if I had an actual choice.... probably uncut.

i had never considered that they would feel different. in europe it is not a normal procedure with baby boys. i've never understood why it is in america - does anyone know? i know one of my friends sons had an op in the states and the surgeon was insistent that circumcision should be part of the op even though it wasn't medically required.
it's been the norm in the US for well over a century. for further information, check out the wiki.

i'm uncut & am happy that way. in this country, this is far & away atypical.

I stand corrected. I'm obviously well behind the times! I wonder what lead to my friends incident?

It's down here in the states to 58.3%, from 64.9% in 1979. Interestingly, the lowest rates are on the west coast, and the highest in the midwest. These are statistics for circumcisions occurring in the hospital just after birth and before discharge.

We've still got a ways to go. :)

eta: We have 2 girls, but if we'd had a boy, he wouldn't have been circumcised.

Thank-you for the data. It's still strikes me as odd that over 50% are being cut even when the data is reported not to have any proven health benefits. I wonder if parental choice or local medical advice is the driver?

I think in a lot of cases, instead of doing the research, new parents just say, "Well, it's always been done this way, so we'll do it, too." They don't bother to do the research. Also, a lot of American dads are circ'd, and they want their sons to look just like them. When we were deciding to have kids we asked our moms about our dads, and surprisingly, both my dad and my father-in-law aren't circ'd.

Anyway, it's an important decision for new parents and one that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Oh, and this is really interesting. When I was doing the research 14 years ago I ran across articles similar to this one, about circ'd men who regrew their foreskin.

I'm cut too...for health reasons rather than religious ones... I had a tight foreskin as a child so had to have it removed before I got older and thus more "uncomfortable"...

:(

I am cut and very happy that I was done while young.

When growing up in a Detroit suburb, I only saw one uncut boy in the locker room during eight years of gym class.
