I think there are times we do something and then feel stupid, even though we shouldn't.

"Should have seen it coming."

"Why did I fall for that line?"

"How could I have been so gullible."

Trust me, I've had experience on this! It's all about perspective and truth.

The truth is no one ever sees it coming, people LIE and all of us fall for it, and we aren't gullible, just deceived.

Put the problem squarely on the shoulders of the offender.

I'm not sure if any of this applies to your situation, but I needed the reminder, too.

This really made me think.

I tend to be honest to a fault here and in the rest of my online life. Usually too honest. I admit that I've caused hurt sometimes by being what might be considered TOO honest by some...which is probably weird to most people. I mean, we are on an anonymous forum and most of us are married...but that makes it so easy to lie! Because who would know, right?

But if I had to choose between being full-on deceitful in an attempt to not hurt someone's feelings...and being honest, I'm almost always going to pick honest. For better or worse. Because holding myself to that standard is maybe the only thing keeping this place from being awful.

I had to learn that, because not doing that made it hard to look in the mirror. And my hair gets messy and my beard gets unkempt if I don't look once in a while.
